I hope I meet her and I know the feeling when that one acceptance comes in that you've been waiting for...I had full rides but as soon as I heard from Howard, I knew. Congratulations! I hope I get to meet her in August

      Kayla Boo Thank you! I really wish I could say something more but I didn't study for the SAT. I've heard of students taking SAT prep classes to prepare themselves for the SAT but I just went in blindly and took it, same for the ACT. I would suggest taking both tests as many times as you can afford though! They'll add up your highest scores on each part.

      Anayia Henry I only took the ACT because it was easier to me. To do really well on either, you have to do well on the math portion and be competent in geometry, algebra II, and a little bit of trig. Also treat the science portion as if it’s just reading comprehension and not like an actual science test. Hope that helps!

      Camrah Sky Anytime, some scholarships have academic standing requirements, for instance you have to be a senior in high school who is accepted to a certain university, but there are some for sophomores, juniors, kids who are already in college etc. lol it's never too early to start the scholarship search!!

      UNCF.org under the scholarships tab, google, local businesses around you, getting involved in organizations like Jack & Jill, fraternities or sororities, etc. Next time your mom goes to the bank or something, ask if they offer scholarships. Remember though that any "Scholarship" that asks you for money is NOT one to put in for. Good luck on your hunt(:

    • @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo
      @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo  Před 8 lety

      +Ashley Ogbunugafor Hey love, I actually go over each of the scholarships and their minimum criteria in this video, but if you needed to see it visually,
      www.howard.edu/financialaid/grants_scholarships.htm
      ^^check out that link and scroll until you see the list of scholarships. Now, I heard they recently changed the criteria for the Legacy scholarship, but back in my year you needed either an SAT of 1170-1290 OR an ACT of 26-27 and a GPA of 3.00 or higher. The legacy scholarship covers your entire tuition and fees, you still need to find money for room & board etc.

  • @laylathomas4884

    Ok, so I am currently a junior and right now HU is on the top of my list as far as colleges that I want to attend. My GPA is currently a 3.7 that I'm doing my best to bring up to at least a 3.9. I also want to start studying for the SAT now. What time would you say would be the best to apply especially if you want a scholarship? Does your SAT and or ACT score have to be turned in with the application?
    Also, I take two AP classes. Does Howard take those credits? (Assuming I pass the AP exams)

    • @laylathomas4884
      @laylathomas4884 Před 7 lety

      What I mean by the SAT thing, say if my school takes the test before deadline but receives scores after it.

    • @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo
      @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo  Před 7 lety +1

      You CAN send/fax in scores later but you should have at least one score to send in with your app. Just send the better ones in later.
      Scholarships are given on a first come first serve basis so Early Decision is best, but if you can get your app in before say like March, you're still in decent shape.
      Howard takes AP credits if it fits your academic scheme and you received a 4 or 5. Dual Credit classes are much easier to get transferred.

    • @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo

      +Tia Alexander Some scholarships can be secured as early as sophomore year. Google scholarships for juniors in high school. Otherwise, you can wait until junior year is over and then go on a scholarship hunt. Remember to keep a record of all the scholarships you might be interested in, right down the name, their deadlines, the criteria, and the amount they're worth so you never get off track!
      The scholarships that cover tuition literally COVER tuition, but keep in mind that tuition is not the only thing you have to pay for at college. There's tuition, fees, room & board. Tuition is about $21K,

      Someone else asked me that and even though my TOTAL SAT score was high enough, I think Howard only used my Reading + Math score when giving out money, which wasn't high enough to get me out of the Legacy. The number I stated was for Reading, Math AND Writing.

    If i meet below the SAT requirements for the area i want to major in, do you think they would still admit me?

    • @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo
      @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo  Před 9 lety

      +BeautyyQueenn717 Depends on how far below, which program and if you meet every other requirement! But remember that you still have the whole year to retake the SAT and (re)send in a score

    • @TBeauty_
      @TBeauty_ Před 9 lety +1

      Okay so I'm a senior and i'm going to apply early action. Altogether I got a 1240 on the SAT :/. But since they only look for reading and math scores, i got 360 in reading and 440 in math (800) altogether. I want to major in Nutritional Sciences, and a minimum 500 on math and reading is required. On the good side I guess, I have a 3.7 gpa and An "A" average in the classes of "Biology, Chem, Mathematics, and English - they require a "C" or better. lol talk about a bad test taker. Would it be worth taking the SAT again?, my scores would already be sent by time I apply.

    • @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo
      @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo  Před 9 lety

      +BeautyyQueenn717 I say it never hurts if you can financially afford it. Even though you would have sent in your scores already, you CAN have new ones sent again. I know COAS (College of Arts & Sciences) is a little more strict about their scores, BUT you sound like an excellent student and a very good applicant, they may look over the 60 points. You don't have to retake the test, that's just my suggestion. If you do decide to retake it, try an SAT prep course first though.

    • @TBeauty_
      @TBeauty_ Před 9 lety +1

      +# BlackGirlsCZcamsToo Okay, thank you for your advice, and encouragement :). I think I'll retake the SAT, since they are strict with the scores lol. I think it's worth the shot. Thanks for getting back to me I really appreciate it. :)

      Hey lovely! Yeah, apparently all of those scholarships were scrapped for new ones right after my freshman year. I put up an updated video with the new scholarships and criterium, I'm pretty sure it's all changed again since then: czcams.com/video/mEyu4HQFtfs/video.html

    • @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo
      @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo  Před 8 lety +1

      +Aida G is that reading & math or your overall score, because that's not low at all!!
      I would suggest taking your SAT as many times as you possibly can and maybe looking for an SAT prep course that can train you to be a better test taker. As you may know, these standardized tests do NOT test your intelligence, but rather your ability to test take. lol be great and be blessed girl(:

    So, as an adult student, 32; who's HS is no longer a HS and who has no connection to past teachers. What do I do? I'm a certified dental assistant and want to attend Howard University for dental school.

    • @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo
      @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo  Před 7 lety +1

      Justin Peterson of it's a graduate program, you probably only need info from your previous college/trade school. Or recommendations from an employer etc. your application would be non-traditional so you'd just have to check your requirements. These that I mentioned are outdated and were for first-time college students straight out of high school

    • @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo
      @BlackGirlsYouTubeToo  Před 7 lety +1

      I don't think so, not unless you're graduating early or applying for a summer term. There are probably camps & stuff that you can do as a junior though to get you on campus and into activities. You can always email someone from admissions or try calling and see what they say about it!
