The comments are great, I worked on the Fiber project in Austin and when we built out a hood we had strict rules on how the enclosures were prepped and we had to use all the parts in the box. I have since left and work for another company, and they are all about quick and dirty make that money, shit breaks we’ll fix it later. We splice 432 ribbons in 6 hours. The work is proper but it could be cleaner. Main thing in splicing is keep your machines and work space clean. And don’t break shit. This guy doesn’t even have on boots or eye protection.

Many mistakes and bad habits exhibited, with an end result that does not meet quality standards. If you've never seen it performed correctly by an actual professional then you don't know what good work actually is.

Cable is not for outdoor use,and he works with what he has. Only thing I would say is not well done is measuring the fibers, but I can understand that too,he probably has a norm and is not payed well for his job.

You all who are saying this is a crap job clearly dont do this for a living and have no clue. 1) it doesnt need to be water proof its light not electrical.. 2) the electric arc welder is standard equipment 3) the tape should be vulcanized self-sealing/welding tape. it welds to itself and is a standard practice if you not using water resistant boots (it looks like electrical tape but its not..hopefully...). Long as it passes the TDR tests shouldnt judge something you have no clue about... but I would be surprised if that even pass since he folded the fiber at a 90deg angle right in the beginning of the video.. that and his overly long leads that required him to loop the fibers up in the box improperly... other then the possible risk of the fibers being busted, when stripping the insulation, the job quality is just average... far from crap but also far from perfect.

Syc holic lol I've been doing this job for ten years and I will tell you, you pull that shit here in aus and you'll have no job, that is among the worst I have seen and if you believe that water ingress won't cause problems obviously you do substandard domestic shit work, splice canisters are sold with an IP rating and that canister's sealing procedure wouldn't pass, and the sheer fact you only test fibre on and otdr tells me you don't have a fucking clue, I would love to see this splice on an OTDR on hi res then see its loss on PM, I would place bet he's relying solely on the Chinese 70s's calc splice loss.

I never said its a good job either... more like mediocre... Suggest you go read the comments below for Sujit Lama and my replies before assuming you know exactly my opinion. To be honest I thought the job was a fail the moment he folded that FO almost in half when he was stripping it.... as for the sealing against the elements suggest you look into "Scotch® Self-Fusing Silicone Rubber Electrical Tape 70" just to name one that is exactly designed for this. And if you think water can effect fiber (not the termination connectors) post a reference proving this, I'd like to read it. Cuz I'd like to know who says fiber optics in water will effect the signal since FO laser light never even makes it to the surface of the fiber (and if it is, there bigger problems to worry about then water...)

Here in sweden we got some nasty boxes from the 90s and early 2000s that are always filled with water, people have been cheating when they sealed the cables so they are leaking in water to the point the whole box is filled with water :O Weird thing is I have never heard of any damage of these boxes on the fibre itself, but its a pain in the ass to work in them as all the markings on the fibres have disapeared
We use these boxes only here in the north: www.sahkonumerot.fi/7284163/img/large/color.jpg

I was a fusion splicer back in the day when Verizon first started putting in what we use now of days. The beginning of this video seemed not that bad🙂 but it gets real bad at the end for sure lol. He doesn't pre route the cables properly in the spice trays. Zipped tied that fiber no felt and no flush cut on the zip ties. Cool fusion slicer but wow I really don't think this closure is sealed properly. Building closures and fusion splicing ribbon or single should be better than this. Interesting video wow crazy stuff for sure.
