I have a conch piercing in my right ear and plan to get a double conch piercing in my left ear. One of the easiest of my 16 piercing, both to get and to heal. I have had it for 7 months and it is fully healed. I even lost the jewelry for five days without losing the piercing (note to self, do not use a clicker in it).
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! :)
Hi! How was your sleep with conch piercing?
For everyone wondering about side sleeping with new piercings, i found that sleeping with a travel neck pillow helps a lot. Get a good quality one and that way your ear ends up in the "hole" of the pillow and there's no pressure on your new piercing.
I have double ❤
I just got mine today 😊 it is so beautiful! The pain is not that bad I was so nervous before piercing. Now is the healing part I have to deal with. 😂
Gosh all your piercings look so nice on you and they go well with the rest of your minimal style and lifestyle! Is there a body jewelry place in Europe that you recommend? Also if they sell online that'd be great but if not i might visit someday in my travels. I want good quality stuff for my tragus and nostril piercings. (Also if other viewers have recommendations that's greatly appreciated) 💛
Thank you so much! I've actually gotten all my piercings in NYC (pure body arts) and in Chengdu (temple tattoo). I've heard great things about a place in Berlin (I believe they are called naked steel), but have yet to check them out myself 😅 In terms of jewelry I highly recommend Maria Tash (her clickers made out of implant grade titanium), neometal (my tragus, first lobes and conch jewelry is from them) and zadamer (he's on Etsy and does custom-made jewelry 👌 I just ordered a piece and can't wait to see it!). Neometal is always were I look first though 💚 In NYC I got pierced with their pieces. They primarily make implant grade titanium, but also have a few pieces in gold. I love them because their stuff is good quality, it's made in the states and their prices are reasonable. I contacted them and they told me that that place in Berlin has lots if jewelry from them. There are other places in Europe that stock their jewelry, they just don't seem to have as much. I've gotten jewelry from "bodyartforms" in the past and highly recommend them. They stock all the above mentioned brands at great prices. They also have low-quality jewelry (think silver and mystery metals) so it's important to use their filters. Search for implant grade titanium, gold, etc. I've had orders shipped to the states and Thailand and their shipping rates to Europe are reasonable. It's just a couple of dollars (or euros ..) 😊 I just placed another order with them again that I had shipped to a relative because I was nowhere long enough to receive an order. I'll get that one soon. I can definitely vouch for neometal's quality because I've worn their pieces for a year+ now and have had no issues 💃I've also had my Maria Tash clicker for almost a year now and it's been great! That's it for my recommendations. What can I say .. I am a jewelry geek 👾
This is the website that I mentioned btw: bodyartforms.com/ - Search for neometal, industrial strength, maria tash, anatometal and other reputable brands. They've got a huge selection and lots of pieces in implant grade titanium, which is awesome because those are usually reasonably priced! :) Threadless implant grade titanium jewelry from neometal is my favorite! :)
@@theminimalistninja ahh thank you for such a thorough reply! You're the best. I'm definitely checking out all of those ⚘
The area around my conch piercing hurts like hell :(
What gauge is your conch piercing?
Fantastic! I’m new to cartilage piercings so I’m wondering: when it’s healed, can I take it out overnight? Is the closing mechanism easy and how long can an average person go without wearing anything without it closing up?
At what point during the healing process were you able to wear headphones or earphones?
Do you happen to know the length of the post that was used as your initial jewellry?
No, unfortunately, I don't. That info wouldn't be of much use anyway though. The length of the post is dependent on your anatomy and we're all different, so the length of the post for initial jewelry is going to vary. Any reputable piercer would set you up for success though and would use appropriate jewelry that fits your anatomy! :)
Hi I have a question! So I got mines pierced as well & I want to change the jewelry out. The size of my jewelry is 16G 5/16 & haven’t changed it since it was pierced. What size mm bar do I down size to, since the original jewelry was longer for when my conch was swollen? I’m planning on getting a flower marquise stud to replace it with & idk what size I’m supposed to get. Thanks! ☺️💜
I would go to a piercer so that they can evaluate whether it's ready or not and have it changed by them! :)
The pirece on my lobe dont even quite heal after 12 months
Definitely see your piercer about this! :)
I’ve gotten mine done just yesterday and it’s healing with a hoop. Everyone is telling me I should have the piercer put a stud in instead because of the healing process and it’s going to get infected. But I like the hoop and know I will take extra care of it as it’s exposed more. But would you think it’s best to get a stud in ASAP? Or just leave it until only if irritation is noticed with a hoop? X
Grace28 i know this is late but i got mine 5 days ago and everyones telling me the same thing so I’m just going to leave it until its either healed or if it does start get infected ill get it professionally changed
Erin. W me too! Mines actually healing perfectly normal 😌
I'm so surprised they even let you get a hoop in it but then again I wanted a stud with a flat back so I didn't ask about a hoop. Although I heard it's usually done with a stud so it heals easier and then later on you can switch out the jewelry
I just got mine done yesterday and It’s my favourite piercing along with my tragus. Pain was probably 4.5/10 included the jewellery going in as it hurt a little
My piercer used a ball as the backing as it would be more comfortable if I ended up sleeping on it
How’s your healin? Is it finally healed?
@@trishm7451 I think it’s fully healed. I changed to hoop. I still clean it a few times a week but I do with all my piercings
Got mine pierced 2 weeks ago in both ears. I plan to take it out in a year or so
Take it out? Like retire the piercing?! Why?!
I've had my conch piercing for 6 months now. But still get bumps on it. Should I wait longer before trying to change it to a hoop? I don't know if it is still healing and that is the reason for the bumps or if the jewelry is too long and that is the reason for the bumps. So should I wait longer or should I try to change it now and see if that stops the bumps from forming?
Definitely see your piercer and do not attempt to change it yourself. Conch piercings can take a year and longer to heal and at 6 months it's, most likely, not yet healed. The bumbs could be due to the material of the jewelry, the quality, your aftercare, etc. - it's always best to have an expert look at it in person! :)
hi do u have an update on your bumps in your conch piercing? mine is already 7mos but its not yet fully healed and there's a bump on it.
@@ricaleedelgado7431 they are fully healed now, but kept having bumps for quite awhile. :(. However, I used some sea salt and water paste for whennever I got a bump, and after awhile (2-3 days depending on the bump) they shrank. The bumps would always come back though. Which was extremely frustrating. But later I found out it was because of friction (the posts and later the hoops kept bumping or rubbing against something like my pillows or each other -I got a double conch). Hope that helps even a little.
@@K.114. Oh yeah that's part of the reason you're supposed to downsize after 6-8 weeks and not sleep on that side at all.
I love piercings and love the look of a minimal constellation curated ear but I’m a pilot and can’t get too many piercings. I got my conch 2 days ago and it’s probably the last piercing I’ll be able to get.
Why is it important to downsize?
Unfortunately my piercer never mentioned anything.
PilotCrissy so you don’t get it caught on things, your hair, your sweater, scarfs etc etc.
Also it just looks prettier :)
Franken Bride
Oh okay!
I thought it was cuz I needed something smaller for the healing process. I actually got pierced with pretty jewelry. Got a 14k one with I believe just a regular 16 gauge post.
PilotCrissy you actually need something with a longer barbell, so the ear has room to swell and it’s also easier to clean. Titanium or some really non reactive metal is recommended ;)
@@meowmeow1638 Yes initially the post is long to help with swelling but 6-8 weeks is when you're supposed to downsize. At that point having it downsized is recommended to finish healing properly.
So you wait about a year before changing jewellery? I got my conch about a month ago and it still hurts like hell, when I accidentally bump it. It's not infected though. I clean it by rinsing it with saline. How long do you wait inbetween ear piercings. Because there are still so many I want and I'm an inpatient idiot :D
I only downsize jewelry mid way through healing, if there's a need for it. If there isn't than I wait until it's fully healed - which, for most piercings, is a year (and longer). :) Sounds like you are doing everything right. I got a second one 7 months ago and it's probably also gonna take a year and some to heal. My piercer recommends to only ever have 3 ear piercings (at most) that still need healing. I won't be getting any new piercings until 2 of my current ones are fully healed. Any good piercer would throw a similar recommendation at you to be frank - 3-4 healing piercings, at the same time, is the max. that any reputable piercer would recommend you get. I feel you! After a year of healing I am usually using my patience. We gotta hang in there though. It's totally worth waiting for. :)
Did you ever get any hypertrophic scars during the healing process?
No, I've never gotten hypertrophic scars on any of my piercings! :)
How can you tell that a cartilage piercing has fully healed?
I gotta start of by saying that I don't touch, rotate or move my piercings in any way. I also never touch my piercings when I rinse them in the shower. I usually know because there's no more tenderness, no odd incidents and it looks good. For cartilage piercings I always give it a full year. If the piercing is in a tricky location such as a tragus or took then i always check in with my piercer. I wouldn't attempt to change the jewelry of any piercing prior to being 100% certain that it's fully healed. When in doubt I always recommendations checking in with a professional. I did that for my tragus and septum piercing and everything went super smooth. I didn't had a chance to see someone this time, but can tell that it's indeed fully healed. It no longer gives me any issues, the skin around the wound is fully healed and firm, it's no longer red or tender and when the jewelry moves around at night I don't wake up with a sore ear or blood around the wound 😊
I have the exact same pricing. I got it done in January 2020 and now its dec 2020. Its not totally healed purely because this was my first ever pricing and I mess with it far too much. If I didnt touch it and cleaned it, it would have healed faster. Withing the first 6 months I got a major infection bc I messed with it so much. With this pricing you really need to just leave it be other than when you're cleaning it with a cotton swab. Im still wearing a 14g, im not sure if I should down size but I dont think its ready yet anyway
Ive had my conch piercing for 16 months and its not fully healed yet. I would say however it was downsized 2 times by the original piercer. And changed to a hoop when I thought it was 100% healed but it wasnt. Then I changed it back to a stud because it was so tender when I wore my college graduation cap and my hair was bothering it. Months later, i thought it was healed and changed to hoop and now i figured it still isnt healed. Idk maybe the angle it was pierced at just doesn't want to heal. Or Ive gained a lot of weight and that can affect healing i think, idk. Right now i almost want to abandon the piercing :(
I am so sorry that you are having trouble with yours! What material is your jewelry made out of and what brand is it from? What's the threading (internally, externally, thread-less)? What material is your stud made out of and what brand is it from? Have you gotten a second opinion by a different piercer? What is your aftercare routine? Do you ever sleep on your piercing? Of course, placement, material and aftercare (among other factors) can hugely affect healing! :S
@@theminimalistninja its titanium implant grade. My aftercare hasnt been that great lately so from now on ill clean it twice a day with provon soap and pat dry with paper towel. Hopefully itll heal soon
abkayla1T sounds like you could be wash it too much? Try leaving it alone if you haven’t abandoned ship yet
@@abkayla1T Um I'm not sure you should pat it dry. That sounds like it would just irritate it.
I wanna get one in my left ear*
Mine is 10 months feeling like it's 3months old with irritation bump
Mine actually took 2 years to heal and would get piercing bumps for almost a year. Hang in there.
