  • In December we took my younger cousin, Nande, for initiation, and hosted an event which in our culture is called Umgidi. As a Xhosa boy child, you are required to go through initiation as a rites of passage to Manhood. On this day, he comes back from the mountains where he was circumcised and taught for almost a month. His family and friends celebrate him and bring him gifts, slaughter a goat and other livestock, and continue to give him more lessons on becoming a man, from Fathers, Uncles, Mothers, Aunties, Brothers and Sisters. They also wish him well wishes on his journey of Manhood, in which the whole community now recognise him as.
This is the coverage of that day where he returned. Do enjoy. And I hope for those who don't know, could be educated on how things are done in our culture as Africans.
