To all the teenagers watching this: this is a single experience, drop out is not the best option for you, and if you are thinking about it please take your time to decide
I’d say this video is exactly the life of a 16 year old dropout. She literally admits to doing nothing all day. The highlights of her day were taking a shower and eating an avocado. Stay in school and maybe get a job that affords you more luxury than a bus ride and sushi. There’s never a reason to drop out of high school unless you’re being bullied or become a celebrity. At this age most kids (not just dropouts) aren’t seeing the big picture that everything you do in life is leading up to having a healthy home life and a secure retirement. Without a basic education you’re setting both of those back years, decades or a whole lifetime.

In case anyone was wondering the scottish schooling system works as 7 years of primary school then 6 years of secondary, but in the 4th year (16) you are allowed to leave and go to college full time or do a job. If you decide to stay on you do highers then advanced highers. After that its college uni or job. I know this because i live in scotland and im 16, i believe in england its a bit different though, oh and education is free including uni and college
Damn if uni was completely free then I wouldn't have to think twice about at least trying before deciding to drop out completely. Free higher education is a privilege that many don't have. Don't waste it.
hi, english 16 year old here, can confirm it is different down here! in year 11 (15-16) you sit your GCSEs and from there you have 3 choices: • education until 18 (A levels, or possible GCSE retakes) - it is free and you would go to a sixth form/college to complete 3+ A levels typically • apprenticeship - typically level 3 • full time job you must take your A levels - typically - to get into university and we have to pay tuition sadly down here. luckily student debt isn’t that bad, you pay off a tiny bit of it every month if you meet a certain salary threshold and it gets wiped off 20 years after your degree anyway :) so jealous of the scots tbh! i want free uni 😭

Though I don’t necessarily have a need for a HSD anymore I’ve considered getting it anyway. Unless you have a solid plan/ direction like starting your own business, trade school, etc than STAY IN SCHOOL; it’s literally buying you time to figure yourself out. People do not realise how quickly time will fly by. Right now you feel like you’re ahead of your peers, living like an adult with all these freedoms but give it a few years and you may start feeling like you’re the one who is being left behind. Having nothing but yourself and no direction gets old quickly and can land people in a pit of depression. Again not everyone needs a HSD but if you don’t have a plan in place when you drop out you may be putting yourself in a much harder situation down the track. I know it can feel like you’ve been in school forever but after 10 or 11 years of education you may as well stick out the last little bit.

As a former 16 year old drop out, (I’m now studying medicine at uni) don’t drop out. You grow wiser as you age and realise that education is very important. I had to do a foundation year just to get into uni at 20 years old, you can imagine how hard it was for me adjusting to Uni after being out of school for 4 years. And uni isn’t like high school, your grades rely on your own efforts to retain vast amounts of information. So to reiterate, don’t drop out. Enjoy high school and everything that comes with it because being on your own is so hard. I find myself missing being in high school sometimes as I never had to find a way to do a full day of uni, clean my house, do a food shop AND pick up my kids from kindy before 6pm. Please just get through high school and life will be that tiny bit easier. You got this!!!

Don't waste it.

hi, english 16 year old here, can confirm it is different down here!
in year 11 (15-16) you sit your GCSEs and from there you have 3 choices:
• education until 18 (A levels, or possible GCSE retakes) - it is free and you would go to a sixth form/college to complete 3+ A levels typically
• apprenticeship - typically level 3
• full time job
you must take your A levels - typically - to get into university and we have to pay tuition sadly down here. luckily student debt isn’t that bad, you pay off a tiny bit of it every month if you meet a certain salary threshold and it gets wiped off 20 years after your degree anyway :)

I moved out of a neglectful home at 14, dropped out at 17, I’m now 27 and whilst I’ve been incredibly successful as an entrepreneur I still wish I could have graduated.

I'm happy that you have made something of yourself. I really hope you're proud of yourself. Many people that "drop out" doesn't, well... make it as far as you have.
As a neurodivergent person, i find it imperative for you to understand the difference between a neurotypical’s struggles and a neurodivergent’s struggles. The school system ultimately fails many people like me with autism and other disorders. It is not the same for everyone.
Well said 👏
Yes education is very important but the school system is not education she has done the smart thing if she has a plan
What do I do if I really want to stay in school but have difficulties in it. How do you study and concentrate and do you have techniques to be efficient and good in your school work?

To anyone who’s thinking about dropping out, please think about it A LOT before you decide. Not having your hs diploma (especially when you’re really close to graduating) will not be helpful in the future since it will be very hard to progress in your job or find a better paying one (which is your main financial support) I’m not judging anyone who’s doing so, but please think about it carefully before deciding
Not American, we finish high school exams at 16, some people do at 15 I believe. I finished my exams at 16 and decided continuing on with college or equivalent wasn’t for me, there are many different paths and choices available to people.
You’re highscool diploma means just as much as a ged, only difference is some jobs are more likely to hire some with a diploma over you with a ged, that doesn’t stop you from getting jobs or prevent you from getting better ones. It’s all about how hard you work and how well you do.
She has her hs diploma, she dropped out of college. College isn’t required and in the UK, their college is not the same as college in the USA. They finish highschool at 15-16 y/o and college is from then until 18. So like junior and senior year of highschool for the USA is actually college years 1&2 in the UK. Then the would go on to University, if they choose to. Where as in the US, you complete hs at 18 (or a different age depending on when you started school) and then you can move on to a college or university.
