    • @derskalde4973
      @derskalde4973 Před 3 lety +21

      Well, in a way, Loki was the most important of the Norse Gods.
      He was the Trickster. With his shenanigans he constantly challanged the gods, driving them to new heights.
      I mean, yes, he almost always caused trouble, but he often helped solve these as well.
      Apart from causing the gods to get these magnificent gifts from the Dwarves, he also is the one responsible for the gods getting Asgard without having to pay, he's the mother of Sleipnir, which he gifted to Odin, without him, Thor possibly wouldn't have gotten Mjölnir back from the giants.
      These just as a few examples, there probably are a few more.
      So, yeah, I think, without Loki, there probably wouldn't be norse mythology.

      I too really like Loki, but not because of Marvel, and more due to a novel series, Mara und der Feuerbringer. The series is quite good, a great story as well as educational. Sadly, I don't think there are any translations of it yet, so its only available in german.
      Anyway, I agree, his punishment seemed a bit extreme.
      Turning one of his sons that he had with his wife Sigyn, Vadi, into a Wolf, so Vadi kills his brother Narfi, and then binding Loki with Narfis intestines to a rock and placing a giant snake in the ceiling, that constantly drools acidic venom at his face.

    • @florathepagan
      @florathepagan Před 3 lety +32

      The evil we see in Loki is likely a Christian construct. Most likely in classic Norse myths, he was the personification of karma. Unfortunately we don’t have many, if any, contemporary sources that show how people felt about him. That doesn’t mean that he wasn’t worshipped or honoured, just that there are no surviving sources to tell us one way or the other how the Norse felt about him. I imagine he may have been treated like Hades in Greece; revered but also feared for his role in Ragnarok. Hades was so feared that many would not speak his name, and would actually all him “the wealthy one”.

    Edit: you should do the story of how loki and Odin became blood brothers
    Fun fact: in some lore , loki was considered a god of fire before he got super mischievous. Since he's a jotun and was considered a god of fire i think he was actually a fire giant from muspelheim not a frost giant. Just a thought. And untamed fire can be chaotic and destructive, like Loki. He’s not the God of Fire. You’re confusing him with the personification of fire Logi which is a common thing that people do because of the name similarities. Also, the term “giant” is inaccurate as well. He’s a Jotun from Jötunheim that is accurate but nobody knows what the oath between Loke and Óðinn was about or how it came about due to it being lost to time. Glad to see someone that knows Loke isn’t Þórr’s brother though that’s uncommon to see because of Marvel changing things.
