I 100% agree with the Buu Bits suggestion. It's not a full DBZA "series" it's literally clips. The TotallyNotMark Buu Saga video is a must for somebody who hasn't seen the OG series at its a study on the show and gives a bit of context for the TFS sections of the essay. Despite what I have said before about me being an outlier and loving Longform videos I will warn and say the whole TNM video is a long one just as a heads up.
I don't know, I think for this she will need t know some lore of buu saga.. I would watch it regardless
@davidramirezrodriguez3373
Why...? She didn't have any context for dragoball z going into DBZA and it was just fine. TeamFourStar makes it like it's its very own show, yeah, for a few jokes you need to be a fan of DBZ to catch them...but overall, you can keep up with the story just fine without even watching a single episode of Dragonball or DBZ, so context isn't needed. Especially now after she knows all the characters and seen the rest of DBZA. Even though it's in clips instead of full episodes, TeamFourStar explains everything you need to know about the Buu arc to understand what's happening...
20:45 Raditz's reaction to Cell saying is father was a brilliant scientist is a joke because Raditz's father Bardock was also a "brilliant scientist".
That dub line is legendary
Lmao but only according to an English dub. I forget which but the sub doesn't have that "brilliant scientist" line at all according to my memory.
@@michaelmcdoesntexist8350 not sure if I can send links but
czcams.com/video/F_DFJ-OXTzQ/video.htmlsi=b0YSPtY7E7awnVq-
@@michaelmcdoesntexist8350 if you search bardock brilliant scientist it’ll come up here
As further context, Vegeta, in the first, innacurrate english dub (there were 3), called Bardock "a brilliant scientist", who created the "Energy Moon" technique he uses to become a Great Ape, even if the real moon is gone.
The ads become skits in later episodes. They're pretty funny, too. I'd recommend watching them in the next few episodes
Remember how Goku would say stuff that drove Frieza crazy without realizing it? Well, Cell has enough Goku in him, and is smart enough, to do it to Frieza on purpose. You’re in for a treat with this show
Cell is part Freeza... so he knows exactly how to piss off Freeza with or without having Goku's DNA.
Nappa is not here because he was brought back to life with the dragonballs in dbza lore.
6:47 Holy crap it’s sonic the hedgehog! No wait it’s an alien. Holy crap it’s an alien! Nice little nod to episode 1 you remembered Lauren
Yes, TotallyNotMark's video would be the best way, cause if you've never read the manga/watched the anime you're just gonna have a lots of "What?!" moments.
3:38 No, it's a thing from like one of/the first U.S. dubs of DBZ. It got heavily censored: no blood, no lewd stuff, no beer and certainly no dying. So everyone was instead "sent to the next dimension" and they would went through the effort of digitally removing Goku's halo. Once getting to these guys, could not say anything about hell, but they also had big "HELL" in English on their tanktops, so that had to be digitally changed into Home For Infinite Losers too.
4:05 No, Nappa is alive, he's been alive since the end of season two. He got revived along with everyone "killed by Frieza and his men" and now he's in Hollywood.
17:54 Z Goku, no. Kid Goku had a lot less chill.
20:44 Raditz being interested is another joke about the original dub. They basically tried to turn Goku into Superman and claimed Bardock was a "brilliant scientist".
Isn't he Mr. Satan's agent?
The HFIL name is a play on the fact that, when they dubbed the Saiyan Saga, Saban changed the demons' shirts that said HELL to say HFIL instead. At some point they added "Home for Infinite Losers" into the dialogue to explain it.
Oh, it's canon to the dub? And here I thought TFS made up the expansion. 😂
"kid was like a beast" good choice of words
0:50 Interesting idea. Personally, I'd say you could watch the Buu Bits on their own and then get context from Totally Not Mark's video or whatever else, but that's just my two cents.
1:53 Standard, yes. But also a reference to the time between DBZA 60 and HFIL episode 1 coming out. :P
8:10 THERE it is! Everyone loves that bit. X3
22:05 YES! SOMEBODY ELSE WHO RECOGNIZES THAT SOMETIMES THE LOWER NUMBER IS THE BETTER ONE! This alone made my night. :P
24:52 In DBZA, Super Duper Saiyan. In the original show, the name most people know is Super Saiyan 2. It was also referred to as Ascended Super Saiyan, and to a much lesser degree Super Saiyan grade 5. Grades 2-4 were other attempts at SSJ2 throughout the Cell saga.
Glad to see you're enjoying their more original stuff now too! Looking forward to the next one! :3
You probably don't remember this, but back in s1 Goku fell off of Snake Way and landed in HFIL. He escaped through that tunnel
I remember him meeting the ogres, but not the fact that it was hell/hfil
@@ChicagoReacts It has been a LONG time since I've watched s1 so they may have left that part out
“Also why isnt he a cyborg” good freaking question!
Team Four Star are kings of running jokes and call back! You can tell they aren’t just mocking the series or particular dubbing choices, but that they deeply love the series too.
During the sharing circle, Raditz perks up at the mention of Cell’s scientist dad bc in one dubbing of Z, and canon in DBZA Goku and Raditz’s father was a brilliant scientist too, so Cell having one is something in common!
Be sure to watch the credits. There is often a after credit scene! Also the ads, while probably not relevant or working, are. Hilarious. They seriously did not have to go as hard as they do for each. So the ads are just extra humor to watch!!
"my father was a great scientist" hits Radits because in the dub, at one point they talk of "the great scientist Bardok" creating the artificial moons. I don't remember if it was Radits during his exposition episode, or Vegeta when popping the moon.
That was just the dub team wanting to give Goku a better father than just "yet another saiyan".
So when cell says great scientists, Radits perks up.
It was Vegeta when he created the artificial moon to transform.
Its figured that the Soul Scrubber is a machine meant to force you to repress all your memories so your soul can be put back into circulation through Reincarnation.
Repression through traumatization from the sound of it, the more ego you have (or hair in Raditz' case) the more likely you will be reborn with you Memories intact.
Thats why King Yama screens them for their sins and power first.
2:50 That's a dub joke, where Vegeta said Goku's and Raditz's father, Bardock, was a brilliant scientist.
6:55 - Nailed it! Looks like shadow the hedgehog + Zack Fair from FF7
Cell "conversing" with Zarbon is one of the greatest interactions in comedic fiction.
As for the ki and physical strength thing, a lot of the strength of these characters comes from augmenting their strength through the use of ki. Yes, they are all inherently extremely strong when it comes to raw physical strength, but their physical strength would still be considerably dampened by the inability to use their ki to power up.
And it's true about Goku. For being the main character, he's really not around very much. I believe because throughout the majority of DBZ, Toriyama was trying to pass the torch to Gohan. Culminating with the defeat of Cell. Although to be fair, Goku was the one who actually defeated Recoome, and Burter. He just didn't deliver the killing blows.
TFS "appropriates" a fair amount of their jokes from other sources. That joke that you like with the head turn was taken from Family Guy, made famous by the character Stewie.
The upside-down face!😂
I personally would've watched Dragon Shorts before HILF. Either way works though.
20:47 Raditz started to get invested because he relates to Cell having a scientist father but Bardock is just assumed to be a scientist for creating the artificial moon technique that Vegeta once used to turn into a Great Ape. Truth is that he's not.
This is just a recurring joke by TFS referencing the fabrication that Ocean Dub used to do on Bardock's backstory. They changed the story by having Vegeta explained that Goku's dad is a brilliant scientist for creating the moon technique. They did this in order to make Goku's character and backstory more akin to that of Superman because they fear that the actual thing might be too dark for younger audiences.
Their ads do start going Internet Historian style, so I guess worth checking out.
Well, about that "Goku not killing anyone", Goku destroying the Red Ribbon army and killing a bunch of soldiers, all the while being about Gohan's age at the time, is pretty much the reason why the android/cell saga started in the first place
As far as og dragonball villains, you're probably not going to see them here. Most of the big ones are actually alive (Pilaf, Tao, Piccolo) so the only dead ones to consider are red ribbon higher ups... who were mostly just normal dudes, so could be soul scrubbed.
The whole ‘Home For Infinite Losers’ phrase was a result of early localization because people back then were iffy about outright saying ‘hell’ and ‘kill’ and the like.
Raddit's hair definitely gives Zack Fair from FFVII
I've actually never seen the HFIL stuff from TFS. I like the concept that there's an afterlife that is about rehab over punishment. It makes me think of prisons in Europe vs prisons in the US
The Soul Scrubber is an actual thing from movie 12, Fusion Reborn, usually considered the best movie. TFS stopped with movie 8 because movie 9 broke them as they were burned out.
Also agree watching the whole TotallyNotMark video will be an awesome way to sum up the Buu Saga.
Whomever suggested to watch the mark videos for the buu bits is very smart. At first i thought you were about to say "so I'm gonna watch the actual show first" and felt dumb.
In the original English dub, they tried to make DBZ more kid friendly so all references to death were removed, so in it Hell became HIFL, Home For Infinite Losers - something they reference a few times during DBZA and the basis of this series.
You know, I've seen this before, but you pointed it out, I never realized Goku didn't kill a single person currently in HFIL. Wow
Goku just loves to fight strong beings, he doesn't fight to kill. Goku only kills when he has no other choice. This is why Goku is favored a lot by the Gods.
I cackle like a hyena every time at Raditz's "Hmm" of agreement when Cell says his father was a brilliant scientist.
22:55 calling Gohan a beast. lol, do you know how true those words actually are?
25:50 this may be a very uncalled for fun fact, but anyways.
One of the "anime" DVDs that Nick "Lanipator" Landis was holding in the ad read, the one with Sailor Moon sitting on top of huge Dragon Balls, its actually a very "spicy", NSFW animation that involves the characters of Dragon Ball "wrestling" in the bedroom with the Sailor Moon girls. Its called "Sailor Moon and the seven ballZ", Lol.
Quite infamous in the early days of the modern internet.
I came to the comments to mention the DVD too (though I wasn't going to be specific). I'm not sure spicy is the right word? It's definitely a product of its time though.
@@doomofthedestiny8065 well, i was hoping the quotation marks would be enough without being too explicit
Something i would also recommend is the DBcember series Teamfourstar did. It would also help with a better understanding with DBZ.
I’d finish these, watch the Buu bits, then honestly watch Super.
"I like Raditz' hair. It's giving Hedgehog meets Final Fantasy."
That's just, like... Yeah, that's DragonBall.
2:22 oh cool, you do that too
TECHNICALLY Cell had four forms as well. Technically
I don't think the ginyu force actually work for Frieza, I remember hearing once that they're more like space mercenaries that anyone can hire
Freeza IS a tyrant, but i think the reason he puts up with the Ginyu Forces silliness and antics was because they were, at the time, some of his most powerful and loyal fighters. Remember Cpt Ginyu and his various dances. they kinda annoyed freeza, but he allowed it anyways.
also, the part about Cell saying "in a way i defeated myself" is funnier when you remember, hes made up of the main casts DNA...so he kinda DID defeat himself
Recommendation,

HFIL is an early dub translation because they couldn't say hell on TV, but you know, could watch people get blown up
let's not forget the "cargo" robot.
(11:57) The Ogers are pretty respectful themselves, earlier cell mentioned that his name is "Mr. Perfect Cell" (which was right after they introduced him as "Cell") and here you can hear one of the ogers refering to him as such (Herr being the german equivalent to the Mr title)
You do need to watch the ShortZ before Buu Bits but HFIL isn’t necessary plus it’s an ongoing series, they’re coming out with new episodes a couple times a year. I wish they’d get them out quicker but you can’t rush genius
Continuity question for the crowd - Cell clearly implies that Trunks killed Frieza, which is true for us. However Cell is from a timeline where Freeza was killed by Goku, and there is no evidence that Cell would be aware of events that happened in his larval state. So how does Cell know that Trunks killed Freeza?
you should definitely check out Team 4 star's hellsing abridged series
“I’m getting Sonic vibes here”
Hence the first joke of the series, “oh my god it’s Sonic the Hedgehog!”
You can prooobably watch Buu Bits on its own since you watched the main series on its own, but there’s less connections and more just scenes.
There wasn’t a lot of scenes that required you to know the context. Maybe a few references and name drops here and there until like the last scene at the end of the Buu arc and right before the start of GT when they reference Super a lot.
Sooo were just referencing episode 1 with the sonic and raditz comparison
There are scenes after the credits, just to let you know.
Ginyu force don't work for freezer They work for his father King Cold technically.
I can't wait for you to react to the shorts
18:06 well in dragonball goku kill almost all in RR army .... OG king picollo and send rabin an his 2 minins in the moon XD
Gokus kill count in og dragon ball is high, so it makes up for the lack of him killing in Z
If he was in line for a year shouldn't he be 7?
I suggest to watch the DragonShortsZ before Buu Bits as well, there is a few interestings build ups for Boo Saga
HFIL was the dub name for Hell
Think you will do the DragonShortZ videos as well?
I think at the end they show a bit more in later episode beware of thaf.
If you count the larval form, technically Cell also has 4 forms. Add the egg and there's 5
The larval form though isn't really a form in the same sense, since it was just the younger version of his first form. Which I imagine is why he's not counting it.
@@gurvmlk well I did say technically. Also that's not quite true. He turned into the larval form and egg to fit into the time machine when he came from the future. So he can transform into it, it just has very limited uses
You make me feel things.
You remember who Raditz is related to, don't you?
HiDive is still a thing, but I stopped using their service after they strongly advertised (by putting a banner at the top of every page) a show that glorified the MC doing revenge SA.
Yes Goku does not kill anyone at all during the cannon portion of DBZ that abridged covers. In fact he only kills two people in the entirety of Z! Crazy right?
absolutely bonkers. but I guess it does make sense considering he mostly just wants to fight. it gets harder to fight someone if they are dead
@@ChicagoReacts There's also the movies and specials, which could be causing some of that confusion. Goku's always the one to kill the main villain in those (at least, of the films that TFS actually covered).
I'm kinda surprised King Piccolo isn't here
No you are NOT going to see Nappa in HFIL because he’s alive…
I should not have enjoyed Her sass and attitude when mocking cell for having to normal punch as much as I did.
Nappa isnt dead so not in hell
Funny thing is ADULT Goku has only killed TWO people whereas KID Goku has a MASSIVE body count. Remember that bit with the video in 16's data banks? That was Kid Goku killing the people of the Red Ribbon Army. What I'm saying is, Goku's gotten cocky in his old age
I mean he started killing again in GT's timeline.
@@alphawolf7417 we don't talk about gt with the exception of SSJ4 cause that is honestly way cooler than God, blue, or U.I.
@@keyblademasterclark I mean, I'm a GT fan so I talk about it all the time. Honestly though, GT Goku killing villains kinda makes sense when you consider every time he spared a villain in Z, the results got worse.
@@alphawolf7417 Only when it came to Frieza. Also, GT fans exist outside of Kiren from TFS?
@@keyblademasterclark I mean, he spared Vegeta, and he eventually became good. He spared Frieza, who stayed evil but didn't live long enough to cause damage. He gave Cell a senzu, which soon resulted in Goku, Trunks, and 16 dying. Finally, he admitted that he spared Buu, which got everyone killed.
Yeah plenty of GT fans exist. Plenty of us also prefer it over Super. Don't get me wrong, I don't think GT is some flawless masterpiece. However I do think it was more consistent, tense, and compelling than Super, which kinda just felt like a soulless cash grab to me.
i kind of disagree with the "comedy in 3 rules" .some jokes just get worse if they are repeated
. like the joke in one of the DBZA Episodes where one just repeats mockingly what another one said before and adds "-this is you ,this is what you sound like" it was bad the first time, and got worse the other two times after that.
Funny thing is BOTH Sons of Bardock fell off Snake Way.
Nope the soul scrubber does what its named it scrubs the the evil out of the souls that arrive in hell
When hellsing?
