My personal headcanon wants me to think that he's attempting to do his own version of "I won't sink to the ground ever again until I win", inspired by the guy he's been fixated on beating ever since he handed him his first L. But now, he can't even beat his #2 (and probably loses in an extreme H-2-H with his #3 and #4 as well.) As an agent in this arc, he put up MVP numbers, but as a combatant, his pride must be in complete shambles after everything that led up to Zoro dicing him up. Has to be a scathing feeling (damn near emasculating) for someone with a "Yonko level" of arrogance. I can't really knock on him too hard though, because he clearly trained his ass off after Enies. I'm really looking forward to how they animate this moment.

I’m not a manga reader, but I heard so much fuss about Zoro having trouble with Lucci. He ain’t have hardly any trouble at all. He dominated that fight without taking a hit. Where does some of the fanbase come from? They’re total odd balls who don’t deserve opinions.

Zoro realised that KoH mode is an overkill for Lucci and then proceeded to switch it off. Lucci got damaged heavily from a normal Santoryu attack. Sanji is germa mode would wipe the floor with Lucci.
Zoro proceeded to remove his conqueror and managed to let the Straw Hats down by stalling injured Lucci and getting saved by Jinbei

This is why I will always hate how Oda skipped over the events leading up to the siege. Everyone else was squealing with excitement about how "OMIGOD THEY'RE A YANKER CREW NOW, LOOK HOW COOL THEY ARE THAT THEY CAN OFF SCREEN EVERYTHING!",.....
and I was just sitting here wondering why people didn't realise that Oda off-screened what would have been a bunch of cool fights and plot relevance for the weaker SH's (including a fight where Robin got injured so badly she was on bed rest for the rest of the arc), fights for CP0 (including Stussy, who got injured immediately after the action started and now might die without ever doing anything else), an organic way to explain to the SH's what happened with CP9 after Enies Lobby, CP0's efforts buying them enough good will that them not being killed or captured is actually REASONABLE (it could have actually become a debate in the community about whether or not they were lying/manipulating us, rather than just being a blatantly bad decision; Oda implied Kaku did something insanely impressive against 2 Seraphim which got him injured, maybe he did it to save the SH's, but that's not really enough if we didn't see it. Lol), on top of an opportunity to EXPLAIN THE LUNARIAN ABILITIES IN AN ARC WHERE THE SERAPHIM ARE A FOCUS. Man literally set up a problem, had Luffy, Zoro, Lucci and Kaku struggling.......then cut away and went "Yeah, so they used bubble guns to win." Lmao.
