Kpop suits my aesthetic more than american pop. Their lights, choreography, and styles are really unique. K Music is such a bop and its very upbeat. Theres tons of charisma. But i cant argue, american pop can be those things as well. But kpop wins for me.

Sameee, it's so strange to think that over a year ago, I'd only listen to pop, but once I was introduced to kpop, it's all I ever listen to. There's just so much variety and while each artist still explores different styles, they still have their own unique sounds. That's what I love about kpop. On the other hand, American pop collectively sounds sort like different variations of the same sound. It's nice to listen to, but there isn't enough variety for me to listen to it everyday.

Unnati Agrawal I know what you mean, the pop i was grew up with was the 90s and early 2000s and it has changed not drasticly. The day a friend showed me korean hiphop and kpop it was like discovering a whole new world. You never really forget that feeling, I know I haven't and that was over ten yrs ago lol. Aside from korean music I listen to rockabilly music which is completely different but somehow it works for me haha.

    • @HeyTatyana
      @HeyTatyana Před 6 lety +6

@Sandra Rose Vincent, regular pop is also just POPular music and consists of all genres. That's where the name for pop music came from. They're both the same, it's just that they're in different languages, hence the k in k-pop (or the j in j-pop, or the c in c-pop, or the latin in latin pop, and so on). Also, k-pop has more of a formula.
I agree with you, Adrinna, I like both but I lean more toward k-pop these days. In this list alone I knew more of the k-pop songs than the pop songs. It's generally hard to choose between the two unless you're the type of fans that like to brag about how one is better than the other.

I feel like with k-pop a lot of the songs I don’t like on the first few listens, but once I see the music videos and live stages it really brings the songs to life! Then I love listening to k-pop and the songs on repeat 👍🏼 I feel k-pop is more of a visual thing and pop doesn’t need the video to back it up (I don’t really watch pop videos anymore). Either way I love all music 🔥🌍

I like Pop music but it can be really dull and formulaic. If you exclude songwriting and look at just the music production, they religiously stick to a strict recipe for whatever the trend songstyle is, then you hear 50 songs all from the same recipe book because everyone wants to cash in on the trend, it gets really boring really fast. All those POP song in this list I loved but got sick of them really fast. I actually prefer the music production in Kpop. The production can be more créative, dynamic, daring, take more risks sonically and just more interesting to the ear. Kpop is very good at using quirky sounds melodies, like I listened to an NCT song the other day, there’s like 7 different Melody flows in the 2nd verse, that would never happen in Western top40 Pop, (it would only be one or two).
Also I heard American music producers say they prefer Kpop from a creator standpoint because if they produce Western pop there’s the strict recipe to follow, but in Kpop Music production you can just rip up the rule book and go crazy to create something weird and wonderful. You would never hear a song like F(x) ‘red light’, NCT ‘Cherry Bomb’ or ‘Bang Bang Bang’ in western Pop, it’s just too ‘out there’/‘too different’ to be considered mainstream top40 pop music and would be seen as niche/alternative.
Sorry for ranting, thats just what I get listening to Kpop that I don’t already get from western pop music. That and the great performances. 👍

hi. i kinda disagree cuz music-wise it might be similar, but the way they present it is different. As I said, the live performances and group choreography's are a very distinctive part of kpop. Most idols make music to dance and perform on stages weekly, but i dont think it's like that in pop. Also, as korean ballads fall into the kpop category as well, it might provide a different taste of music too. Peace out!

I don't actually have a preference between Pop and K-pop, or any kind of genre, I am going to like it no matter where it's from as long as it's good music. 👌
But in this challenge I'm only sure about something: Nobody can beat Ed Sheeran or Bruno Mars, those men are geniuses!

Both music genre are amazing if you aren't lazy to actually look for great songs and interesting artists.
You can always have your own preferences of course ! But I just don't get the debate around it, you can enjoy pop without having to call k-pop lame (especially when you don't even know more than 10 songs and 3 artists), and same goes for k-pop.
Just enjoy whatever you want anyway, both are great.

Liking KPOP or POP is definitely a matter of preference. I’ve always been super picky about the music I’ve listened to in both genres and tbh to me KPOP has a very generic sound that I’m not a fan of but in terms of performances western artists would look like amateurs next to KPOP groups.

Kpop is generally more fun and exciting to listen to (apparently not the case for most of the songs in this video, though).
Pop rarely ever has the whole package, that's a given. But even just in terms of music I think Kpop is more fun and exciting, kind of like how pop in the 90s was like, maybe..? Production-wise it mostly depends on the songs, and how big the agency is, perhaps.

I agree with both of you when choosing pop or kpop. Both styles have their ups and downs. But I must say this - ever since I got to know Korean music in general (I listen to kpop, k indie, k hiphop etc) I started to prefer Korean music. I feel like Western music got stuck at some point and it seems very cold and empty to me, they remix the remixes if you know what I mean. The sound doesn't have harmony I listen to it and I don't hear music. Personally, in Korean music, I've found the meaning again, harmony, melody, warmth. Of course it depends on a song (there's also many songs I don't like) but in general I feel way better listening to Korean music. And like Danny said - kpop is science. They master it to the point that when I listen to western pop song I feel like that song is missing half of the instruments.
