      Sorry if my last comment on the Penn & Teller box piece was unclear. I'm thinking the easier way for this illusion to happen, would be to have the bottom of the box open, and Teller standing on the main platform, crouched in the box. (His legs and other stuff would be hidden from view from the audience, hence the weird reflections when the box get rolled out, and Penn's legs in the background) When the box is light, he does nothing. When the box is heavy, he pulls down on the box-top and/or attaches weights or anchors to the box top. His legs are always there, they're just not visible when the box rises.
      This seems like a much easier explanation.

      I've studied and performed magic since the 1970s. It is a conundrum for me how audiences continue to be fooled by tricks that have been exposed on TV in public etc.. I have learned that you could tell a person

      time they are around people
      I guarantee they won't describe it accurately, sometimes hilariously wrong sometimes they even embellish it

      Agree 100%, but on the otherside of the coin there are others on youtube whoi lack the skills to think beyond what their eyes capture, and therefore attribute people like Copperfield etc and their tricks actually being REAL magic which is being performed by Demons and the performers have sold themselves to for fame. So they have made whole videos about how a magician is possessed when performing, and that the actual trick that may have been executred by sleight of hand, or hollow containers with false bottoms are infact REAL MAGIC, enabled by Demonic forces... ALL because THEY lack the ability to think outside the box, they themselves failed to work out how they were deceived, so with sheer arrogance they attribute it to evil Demonic magic..The pinnacle of ignorance combined with arrogance..Obviously they dont even do research to look uo videos like this that explain how its all smoke and mirrors,,, NOT Demons and Sulfer

    When talking about David Blaine and the coat hanger I think it would have deserved mention that the swallowing of the coat hanger in itself is quite a feat. While not usually considered part of magic, sword swallowing is a classic circus performance that requires a lot of skill. And while the coat hanger doesn't have an edge, allowing a spectator who is not an assistant to pull it out is very dangerous to the point of recklessness. In a sense the "magic" of getting the ring onto the coat hanger is just a distraction. What makes this a real David Blaine performance is that he trained himself to be a sword swallower and is crazy enough to allow random celebrities to pull a coat hanger out of his throat. You're not going to see this exact trick from anyone other than David Blaine. The sleight of hand with the ring is trivial, you're probably going to find a few magicians that trained sword swallowing. But only a true madman allows a spectator to pull the thing out.

    • @irehman7
      @irehman7  Před 7 měsíci +7

      His gag reflex is more advanced and beyond an average sword swallower. His ability to swallow and regurgitate live creatures is the main reason. A true master of mind over body!

      I think it was around 2000 when i saw him do that illusion, and there was nowhere for them to go unless up to the ceiling. Do you remember, was there a loud bang, did the lites go out for a second?
      I should watch the video again. I remember a little curtain going around the tiny platform, and then before we knew it, they were gone, and then the video in Hawaii started, but WOW, It still haunts me, in a good way.
      I hope IREHMAN7 can figure it out and share it with us.

    • @alfhokie
      @alfhokie Před 7 měsíci +4

      Hi Glen. Yes, he performed it on a TV special in 2001 and I saw it in his Vegas show. My best guess (after years of watching Irehman7 videos) is that they are yanked out the back along the platform quickly in some kind of wheeled cart while the curtain is removed and there is smoke, but it still seems impossible. For the Hawaii video scene, I think I've pieced it together, but it would be interesting to get Itehman7's take on that as well. Finally, I'd like to mention the music, which adds so much to the emotion of the trick. The song is called "To the Stars" from the Dragonheart soundtrack. Absolutely fascinating!!! Imagine the hours spent designing & assembling the illusion & then practicing it until he/she can perform it flawlessly. So many of the illusions - especially the more dangerous ones = require split second timing to pull it successfully & without getting themselves hurt or giving away their secrets, I saw David Copperfield at a county fair years ago where he performed some of the same illusions - on a smaller scale, of course - & was completely blown away.

    • @blaster-zy7xx
      @blaster-zy7xx Před 6 měsíci

      @@mkjones1960 There are two explanations floating. 1) The stage rotated and the statue was behind one of the columns of lights with the flood lights turned off after the stage rotated. There were two set of lights "showing the statue gone." one set was a pair of spotlights pointing to the sky from the ground. These are very directional. There could have been a second set of spotlights "shooting up through the void" after the stage was rotated. There was also a set of low level lights circling the base for a pedestrian walkway. Again, there would have been a second set of lights set up in a circle next to the real statue. This was used in the helicopter overhead shot.
      The other method that this video claims is that the lights were simply turned off and the lights on either side of the framed area the audience was looking through kept their night vision from seeing the statute that was still there, just not lit up.

      @@dare2win215 I totally disagree with you. I dont want to be “that guy”, but just to give you my qualifications to lend credibility to my following comment(s): I have a Bachelor’s Degree from BYU in History. We were required to take at least 12 credit hours of religion classes, regardless of our Major, to graduate. So yes, for example, an Economics student would have to take at least 12 credit hours of religion classes to graduate. Anyway, the use of the word “magic”, is actually vulnerable to semantic contextualization. Even into the early 19th century A.D., the words religion and magic were used interchangeably. As you might imagine, they were not speaking English in Northern Africa, Southern Europe, and the Middle East during Jesus’ lifetime. The Bible was not written in English originally. The New Testament was written in Greek, with some Aramaic mixed in there and with the Hebrew that the Old Testament was predominantly written in at that time. Anyway, the power to act in the name of God is called the Priesthood(Aaronic and Melchizedek are the lesser and greater ones respectively) and the word magic was used by the translators and transcribers of the Bible, along with different cultures, depending on translation(s) all along the way. It is arguable that what words translate to which other words all throughout the course of that history, but to say magic is not part of the whole, is either ignorance or deceit. Either you don’t understand the semantics involved in the matter, or you are deliberately trying to spread false information, because it is unequivocal that the word “magic” is appropriate when discussing the miracles of the Bible AND the power allegedly possessed by Lucifer, his demons, and the magicians/sorcerers who operated in the courts of Pharoah, etc. I dont know if this will help prove my point to you, but since English and Spanish are Latin based, check out what the “wise men” were listed as in the King James Version of the Bible in Spanish. The word can be directly translated to “magicians”. What is the research you used for YOUR comment to me?

    • @chargree

      @@deepblue8143 What are you thanking him/her for? Spreading misinformation? Dont let the stigma attached to a word cause you to wallow in ignorance. I am a Christian. I am not offended by it. So right off the top, you see that person either lied or is ignorant about what he/she says. I quote, “If you brought that notion to any Christian, the(y) would be insulted”. To say “the Bible is…” on any topic, is, once again, an ignorant statement. The Bible is a compendium of many different books that were written by different people at different times. It also contradicts itself. This is because PEOPLE are imperfect. PEOPLE make mistakes. PEOPLE attach different meanings to different words at different times. Jesus was perfect. God is perfect. God is against the USE of HIS power by those without authority. But, He is not against HIS power. Whether you call it the Priesthood, Power of God, or Magic(like CHRISTIANS did interchangeably with priesthood AND religion) is kinda beside the point. Dont get hung up on semantics. It makes you sound ignorant. For example, if I were to say God was an E.T., the person you thanked would say I was wrong, with no research or reason to back it up, and he would anoint himself worthy to speak for all Christians, AGAIN, and say they would be offended by the notion. When, in fact, according to the definition of an Extra-Terrestrial, God is an E.T. Yes, there are certain denominations that would argue that Jesus was born here so he was not an E.T.(Trinity Doctrine). I believe that The Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost are 3 separate entities but 1 in purpose, as clearly indicated during the Baptism of Jesus Christ(Christ in the water, separate voice speaking to Him was the Father, and the Holy Ghost descended in the form of a dove). Unless you believe the Trinity Doctrine, you have no argument against God being E.T. Even if you do believe the Trinity Doctrine, there is still the argument that God(Jesus) didnt originate on Earth. So, just consider these things with actual truth before you thank the people lying to you.

There was just one guy on stage with no assistant, no pageantry, and no speaking. Just a large golden engraved picture frame suspended about 3ft off the ground, and the magician pantomiming as an artist who is trying to paint his hearts desire into existence on the canvas. Once he is finished, he turns the canvas around so that we can see he has painted a beautiful woman with a little boy sitting on her lap. Occams Razor doesnt apply to magic tricks and illusions. In fact, the absolute opposite is more likely. It makes more sense for illusions to be buried under layers of complex methods and misdirection.
    Although your breakdowns are very good, I feel that restricting yourself to Occams Razor in this particular industry is unwise and even detrimental.
    I agree that there are many cases in magic where the simplest solution is the correct answer, but its not a good idea to assume this is always the case.
    Im not convinced that resetting peoples natural nightvision is the full solution. I believe this was part of the misdirection so that people cant examine the skyline. However, i still believe the rotating platform is the better solution. That entire platform doesnt even need a motor. Less than 5 people could turn it manually if it was sat on barings. Rotation doesnt require as much torque as you think.

      @DynamicEllie Před 7 měsíci +3

      I'm at about 15 years in the magic industry too. So our time in the field is pretty much identical. I've performed close up and stage illusions in that time. I'm comfortable to concede that you do figure out many things that I overlook, and I do enjoy learning from your videos.
      I'm just not in agreement regarding the Liberty Vanish. I think that the crowd is less likely to see the skyline slowly moving at the sides than they are to see the statue in the darkness.
      Saying that, I know stage performers struggle to see their audience when the spotlights are on, they can still see silhouettes of the crowd.
      I just feel that if someone is shining lights directly into my eyes, making it impossible to see into the void, it would ring alarm bells to even the least savvy spectator. Almost as much as blindfolding the audience members and saying "Trust me, it's vanished. You dont need to see. Take my word for it". They would notice if their vision is being restricted to that extent.

    • @DynamicEllie
      @DynamicEllie Před 7 měsíci +7

      I just noticed something.
      Watch the bezel around the fake radar scanner.
      The reflected white light on the edges move around the bezel as if they are moving in space. They move about 45 degrees round. The same amount that would be required to rotate the stage to the empty space, and they're moving in the correct direction.
      Either the lights are moving then coming to an abupt stop, or the "radar scanner" on the platform is rotating in space.
      This is my biggest tell that the stage is rotating.
      Finally the sides of the audience view is obstructed with white cloth. So there is no peripheral vision. There's no reason to obstruct their side view like this. In fact, it would be more beneficial not to obstruct it if the platform was remaining in place.

    For the Copperfield Great Wall illusion, there was only one staircase that was pushed to the other side of the wall. I would think that it would be to time consuming for him to climb out of one staircase and into another without being seen.

    I worked with Mr Copperfield years ago when he came to our city. I had to sign NDA and learned all his illusions. I was stuck by how effective the art of misdirection is, also how naive people are.

    You're wrong about the Copperfield vanishing the statue. What Copperfield actually did was rotate the stage slightly, imperceptibly, so that the statue was hidden by that massive curtain. The lights in peoples eyes were not that bright but were only bright enough to decrease their ability to perceive the imperceptibly rotating stage. He was able to shine lights through the statue because it was off behind the curtain & the people were seeing air because the statue was hidden. To bring the statue back he rotated the stage once more. The loud music was to conceal the quiet almost silent hum of the electric motors & also to provide bass notes resonating in the stage to cover any tiny bits of mechanical friction that would rumble slightly while the stage was moving & also to conceal awareness of motion while stage was rotating ever so slightly yet smoothly. Your arguments against it are too weak. First the improbability of them using sophisticated equipment to rotate the entire apparatus. I'm a show producer of some 40 years experience. Magician's resort to expensive & complicated mechanical equipment as a matter of tradecraft. I know for a fact that I could build such a stage easily & in a short period of time with known existing tools & equipment. So that argument dies. Your other arguments are weaker than that one so I won't bother with them because I'm not getting any reward for this post. Regardless because some crew actually gave up the rotating stage secret the word got out & a documentary was made like 20 years ago showing exactly how it was done. Such extensive practices are common in Vegas -- as sophisticated hydraulic systems costing tens of thousands of dollars & more are common & used as part of the tradecraft. The reason they do it is that the average person does not believe anyone would go to that much expense & trouble - & it's exactly that disbelief that the magician counts upon.

    28:08 I think the stage was rotated along with the other things he mentioned. If you keep an eye on the man in the white shirt to the far right you'll see him & his chair vibrating. As he starts to react by grabbing the back of his chair David Copperfield notices him & walks up towards them to take focus off of that & redirect it to himself. He likely made an odd or amazed face causing the man to quickly turn back towards the statute & those watching from home to not focus on the man or the fact the camera jumped too with the vibration & I don't mean vibration from the music. Watch a few times, you'll see what I'm referring to.

    In the Statue of Liberty trick, the loud music is maybe still necessary to hide the sound of the lights being turned off. Back then, huge switches needed to be thrown to turn big lights like that on and off.
