    I'm increasingly convinced that the knife to bring in the woods is a chopper/batoner (and leave the hatchet for the back yard). It would be fun to see a 'chop-off' between different options!

    Nice knife, great video. I have a hard time justifying the price. Tops silent hero and the esee 6 would be my choice at the given price. Love to support companies that make products here in the states.

    • @drytool
      @drytool Před 3 lety +4

      They aren't in the states, but Taiwan is a friend of the US, at least, and so is Japan, who makes the steel. For me, the handle would put this above the Silent hero, but that Esee 6 sure looks nice. I don't think there's anyone in this price range that matches the heat treatment of Work Tuff Gear or that convex micro-bevel. It is just fantastic!

    I bought the same esee 6 that you’ve recently bought. The natural colored handled one. I sanded the groves off and it now has a more grippy feel once the handles get wet and the handles feel more like my Tops brand linen micarta handles. Great content!! Love your vids that include the esee 6 !!!

    • @gideonstactical
      @gideonstactical  Před 3 lety +1

      The fit and finish on the OKC is not close to WTG, the Rat 7 scales are no where near as comfortable and contoured as the WTG, the nylon sheath in the OKC can’t compete with the kydex WTG. That’s why the Esee6 is the comparable knife.

    I have really been tempted to pick this one up. I really think it is a great design. My only real concern is their warranty, or essentially the lack of warranty. Reputable companies like Tops and Esee have top notch warranties. I understand they are a small company, but at these prices they need to match the other guys in the warranty department imho. Pretty much the only reason I haven't purchased one yet.

I am looking for a kind of "do it all" (i know it doesn't exist) knife that i could use when trekking, camping, and spending time in the woods. I don't plan to cut very much thick wood with it, for that i would get a hatchet. I want it to be strong and reliable and not overkill for backpacking. I narrowed it down to two knives (because i can get them here easily). I'm choosing between a Ka Bar BK16 and Gerber Strongarm. I have to admit i'm a little put off by the look of the Strongarm (a bit too tactical/military for my liking), but i know looks aren't everything. Can you please help? Work tuff gear is becoming a company one does not want to support. I have messaged them multiple times and they never reply. Makes you think how effective they will be to uphold their warranty. I tried to get a Puzon splatter edition. They were sold out in 5min and only 12 went on sale. Later all my complaints got Victor Lin’s attention. He told me that only 12 units from a previous batch went on sale and I must keep in mind the splatter edition is a limited edition. They are trying to get 300 units for October.
    The thing is I would like to have a puzon for a up and coming survival and bushcraft trip that would be main chopper. Now I will have to settle for a knife that I dont really want. Work tuff is playing a dangerous game of being exclusive. It will their downfall.

      Taiwan is a sovereign country in it's own right, not China. Not a chinese territory. They have have some of the most modern CNC machinery in world and produce some of the most high quality products made anywhere. If I can't buy MADE in the United States I'll buy Taiwan products due to quality and they're an enemy of the CCP.

      @@Sherrodja here here! I've found Taiwanese quality excellent for the money and not supporting the CCP is a bonus. US made is preferable of course but I don't feel bad about Taiwanese products.

      Well, he never said Taiwan was in Japan. He said SK85 is a japanese steel, which it is, and WT Gear is a Taiwanese company.
