Dr. Fung, my Dr. told me earlier this year I needed to lose weight. She actually said I should start by losing 12 lbs. in 12 weeks. I had no idea how I was going accomplish this. I was blessed enough come across one of your fasting videos the same day as my Dr. appt. By following 16/8 fast, low carb diet I lose 26 lbs. in 12 weeks instead of the suggested 12! I’m never going back to the way I was eating before! Thank you.

It's amazing, isn't it? And not hard to do when professionals like Dr. Fung give us such clear information. I alternate between one and two meals a day - my hunger is the driver. Often I find that time has flown and I've just completed a 24-hr fast without meaning to. I'm just not hungry like I used to be, and I'm free of cravings. I'm an older woman and I'm finally free of belly fat. Dr. Fung changed my life for the better.

I grew up in a rural area where didn’t have much food, so we didn’t eat much. People lived to 90s without any doctor. Our diet was similar to intermittent fasting. Wake up at 6am to do farm work, have Breakfast at 10am, go to do more farm work, lunch at 2pm, more farm work, and dinner at 6pm, sleep at 8pm. The food was vegetables and rice, the portion was small because we had to share the limited food with the entire family.

    • @AzaleaBee
      @AzaleaBee Před 2 lety +26

@@conniebabcock2839 I used to be out of control with sugar especially baked things. When I started fasting, I cut them out completely. I stayed away from them including by not even looking at images.
But now, I don't crave them at all. Last week my son bought two delicious pastries. I enjoyed two bites and did not want more.
I enjoy my fasts by having so much free time not wondering what I am going to cook or what I want to eat. If I cook for family, they have to decide what I (or we) am cooking. I enjoy the emptier stomach feeling and lower blood sugar for long periods of time that ease chronic pain without medications and their side effects.
Fasting also gives me heightened senses, particularly smells which sometimes are unpleasant but usually enjoyable.. flowers, spices, herbs.

Fasting is amazing! It’s almost too easy. After years of trying to restrict calories and watch my macros, I finally decided to simplify my life by simply fasting 14-16 hours ( allowing myself coffee with cream in the morning), and walking / exercising around 30-45 minutes most days in my fasted state. Lost weight effortlessly while never feeling deprived. I’m 51 and going through menopause, and still fasting has been super effective for me. Reduced cravings, slimmed down - especially my belly fat. I have great energy, no bloating and great digestion. I can’t believe I never learned about fasting when I was younger. Thanks Dr Fung! ❤️

Good for you. 35 hours is great. Not sure what you mean by "go the distance" since you obviously are doing well.
But to go longer, I'd make sure to time my fast to maximize sleep times. For me that is finish dinner no later than 7 pm, water fast all the next day, and occupy myself in the evening to keep my mind off food. Then sleep, wake up, enjoy a quiet hour, and break my fast around 7 or 8 am. It comes natural to me now but I used to spend HOURS in the bathtub at night before bed just to stay out of the kitchen/ away from others who were eating.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🕒 *Fasting is defined as any period without eating, commonly allowing only water; however, variations exist for specific goals like weight loss or blood sugar control.*
01:09 🍋 *Adding flavor to water during fasting using lemon, herbs like mint or cucumber, and infusing fruit flavors like strawberries can make the process easier while providing minimal calories.*
02:07 💧 *Dry fasting, without water intake, exists but is not recommended for periods exceeding 24 hours due to dehydration risks despite some finding it reduces hunger.*
04:22 🍵 *Tea fasting allows herbal teas like green, black, or oolong teas, aiding in glucose metabolism and weight loss while not affecting insulin levels.*
05:19 ☕ *Coffee fasting permits black coffee intake due to its higher caffeine content, aiding hunger suppression and maintaining routine during fasting.*
05:58 🍲 *Bone broth, though containing minimal proteins and calories, can help manage hunger during fasting, yet homemade broth is recommended over processed ones.*
06:55 🥑 *Fat fasting, involving high-fat foods, aids in hunger suppression and can support weight loss despite not being a true fast due to its calorie content.*
07:49 📅 *The 5:2 fasting plan involves five normal eating days and two fasting days with ultra-low calorie intake (around 500 calories), providing an alternate strategy for weight control.*
08:16 🌾 *Fiber fasting allows high-fiber foods like chia seeds that create a feeling of fullness, potentially aiding regular fasting periods by controlling hunger and increasing satiety.*

Hi Dr. Fung. I would appreciate a video on intermittent fasting when weight loss is not the goal, but instead fasting for the reduction of inflammation and the other general health benefits of fasting. When a person does not need to lose weight but can benefit from inflammation reduction, is fasting recommended?
