People only know Alkaline Trio because Matt plays in Blink 182. I was (still am) huge trio and Matt fan. People should listen to Alkaline Trio. They are great and Derek Grant is just as good at drums as Travis.

I found out about Alkaline Trio right around Blinks first hiatus and they were just fantastic. To have Matt in the band is great it's like a dream super band melding together

Wow, this band is really good. Thanks to blink-182 I know this band and will be listening to it from now.
I remmeber when this record came out, this was the first song on the album and my mind was blown, played this on every instrument i had i couldn't get enough of it.
So glad he joined blink or I would have never found out about this band

Was a hardcore blink fan since dude ranch, so naturally found out about alkaline trio during the huge punk rock wave that happened around eneme/take off and all the Atticus cd compilations they put out always promoted alk3 highly. They were one of the prominent bands for blink fans back then, so hearing they chose him to replace tom was so awesome. Felt like I literally could not imagine a better choice. So cool to combine those 2 bands. both have been big favorites of mine for decades.

No, you're right. Alk3 was only played on stations that promoted more indie/underground groups, so it depends what stations you lived near, but they are still considered a cult classic of their genre. Plus, during the age when punk was booming, radio was the last place you went to to learn about good bands. The internet, concerts, slightly tv, ect - and if you were a big fan of blink between like 97 and 03, you should have been well aware of ATTICUS. They couldn't rep it any harder. They put those comps together. If you were familiar with Atticus, you loved Alkaline Trio. It's just the way it was. Atticus was a great way for Blink fans to broaden their horizons. So again, I'm very surprised to hear you somehow missed them.
If you wanna find out about the other bands you missed out on. I suggest you go download Atticus - Dragging the Lake volumes I & II.

You will always have my respect and admiration for the person you are @mattskiba. You've gotten me through very hard times with your music. Good luck with your future endeavors my friend. Blink won't be the same without you but just remember you kept them alive. If it wasn't for them, I would have never been able to know your band and the incredible musicians and artists that you, Dan, and Derek are.

See I freaking LOVED This Addiction, it just feels like such a personal album. Plus sonically it's a phenomenal throwback to Alk3's earlier days, while still showing that they've grown up a lot since then :) Idk, I just love it X3

Vanilla Bean man you guys are smoking crack. I love ALL of trios albums and Matt's side projects especially And The Sekrets. loved Dan's solo stuff too. I've Enjoyed watching them grow, evolve and mature. California was great too, I just wish Mark and Travis gave Skiba some more room to be Skiba and not try to force him to sound more blink-ish. which I understand. it's not bad. I enjoyed it def. but we all know if you put Skiba in a studio and just let him loose we would get something epic.

ok, but the person has nothing to do with the quality of the music... part off what made their old records so awesome was the contrast between Mark's more refined and Tom's unique voice (honestly a shame that his voice changed later on)... Mark and Skiba on the other hand sound very similar

Then I listened Goddammit and Here From Infirmary and now alkaline Trio is one of my favourite bands. My favourites songs are Southern Rock, Im Dying Tomorrow, Stupid Kid, Nose Over Tail, Another Inocent Girl, Time to Waste,Private Eye, Radio and more. I love this band now. I had the opportunity to tour with A.V.A in 2010 , I believe it was that year, and I totally support the Skibs. Had a cat named Tommy De, but Matt is my new rat. Both great influences on me, thanks epitaph.
I love how people complain about Alkaline Trio's "new sound". You could play this with Good Mourning or Crimson and it's still the same band with the same style.
