Chorus:
For all you sucker MC's perpetratin' a fraud
Your rhymes are cold wack and keep the crowd cold bored
You're the kind of guy that girl ignored
I'm drivin' a Caddy, you fixin' a Ford
My name is Joseph Simmons but my middle name's Ward
And when I'm rockin on the mic, you should all applaud
Because we're wheelin', dealin, we got a funny feelin'
We rock from the floor up the ceilin'
We groove it, you move it, it has been proven
We calm the savage beast because our music is soothin'
We create it, relate it, and often demonstrate it
We'll diss a sucker MC make the other suckers hate it
We're risin', suprisin', and often hypnotizin'
We always tell the truth and then we never slip no lies in
No curls, no braids peasy-head and still get paid
Jam Master cut the record up and down and cross-fade

WHO ELSE WANTS THIS KIND OF HIP HOP TO BE POPULAR AGAIN?
Man this is the bees knees never will get old
As much as you love it, can't go back -- it has to stay in its time for the solidarity of truth... plus, the new artists have to step up and get it done if they want their own language, land, culture, and soul during their generation -- this is ours.
I love this…And for the record the new artists are straight WACK !!!

1984 Brooklyn NY. I was a 9 year old Irish kid who lived over a paint store with my mom. While all of my friends listen to rock stations, I listened to 107.5 WBLS. One night this song came on, and I thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever heard. Then I saw the video on Friday night videos and lost my mind. Loved hip hop ever since.
Friday Night Videos. Wow! That brings back some memories!
Remember new York hot tracks?
I don't care if *King of Rock* is the more popular of the two. *Rock Box* is and always will be the superior track
The same here. Since 1:25 mark. PURE GOLDEN! The intensity still untouched to this day.
No argument there. This is the jam!

Cool, thanks for that link!

That part is literally what got me to buy first guitar when I was 12 years old back in 1992
Part of the reason I love rock music, I'm surprised rap or hip hop music in general doesn't include more rock.
This was the blueprint for crossover.
I am white. Teen in the 80's. I hate how we have been separated again. It really wasn't that way back then. Had every RUN DMC tape.

Rap rock was invented by this song. Rap rock emerged in 1984, when New York rap artists Run-DMC released their song “Rock Box,” which featured hard-rock guitar from veteran session musician Eddie Martinez.
E. Martinez was a animal on guitar.
Lets not forget that The Clash added elements of hip-hop on Sandinista! in 1980,
I heard Rock was invented by a black woman
Rick Rubin was a genius as he stated he wanted to make Run DMC the Led Zeppelin of Hip Hop
Thanks I always wonder who was the guitarist on this track. Eddie is a beast on the guitar!!!!!
saw in a interview that Run wasn't down with rock thing at first and didn't want Eddie but gave in and loved it.

Run-D.M.C. kicked down the doors and changed the game. 1984 is the year I was born with Run-D.M.C., Whodini, The Fat Boys and the New School Hip-Hop/Golden-Age. Run, D.M.C. and Jay broke the barriers of color in the music industry. So when it played on MTV, That really kicked down the doors and open up for the rest of hip-hop stars like LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, P.E., all of them. Also, this song marked the birth of Rap-Rock or Rap-Metal.

In the movie Brown Sugar, they ask the question "when did you fall in love with Hip Hop"? For me, it was this song in 1983, my first year in college hearing this song for the first time at the tennis courts. The opening lyrics and the guitar riff had me memorized. Plus they wore the same Lee's I got at the V.I.M. on Jamaica Ave in Queens! Priceless!
I was just home from Wentworth Military Academy and had been Commissioned a US Army Lieutenant and I begged every Store Manager and could NOT buy a job because of the fact that I was an Army LT who had a Degree and had never had a job, so my brother and cousin got me a job at the Butcher Shop Steakhouse in Memphis, Tennessee. And I was a Bus Boy! One night we were in the Kitchen and the whole crew turned on RUN DMC and that day my life changed and forever! They (Tony Brown) asked if I had ever even heard of RUN-DMC and when they stopped laughing brought me back down to earth and they made me never forget that I was that humble kid from Memphis, Tennessee! Then they told me that I was going to be somebody! They all had my back and they all looked out for me! And they were so very proud of me and you could see that in their eyes! I, because of them was the first and only bus boy to be ever in the history of the company promoted to the Wait Staff at that restaurant on Main Street and I will always cherish those memories because Rock The Box and King of Rock were playing in the kitchen as soon as the doors were closed. Before and after my promotion, I washed Dishes; Dumped Trash Cans, and moved around Tables and Chairs! And yes, played Sandlot Football with them and Joe Vince in Overton Park way back in the day. I was fit but NOT that larger and Joe Vince was bragging and harassing me when everybody tried to warn him. So, called me a chicken among other things, and said that I would NOT ever even show up! I shut Joe Vince's Mouth when he saw me run that Rock! And when I was scoring all I could hear was Daryl and Joe with Jam Master Jay in my head! And by Monday, I was the King of the Shop and with that, there came respect! Those were the days!
The beat mixed with that hard ass guitar riff.....A certified classic.....there will never be another....💯
I will say my first time hearing this. Was impressed. This is cutting edge and is definitely art, props
