      Hi, which xlr extension cable for the boom pole and ntg5 do you recommend.

    Very well explained Sir! Everything was very well sorted out and explained really easily!
    p.s: Please try and wear more of those glasses outdoors. You really look good in them! Thanks again for the video! 🙂

  • @HungryForTastyFoodAndComicArt

    FAB review! I have an NTG4+ now I wish I'd waited! The sound and clarity is bewt! And the lightness of that boom pole! I bet some ancient-battle re-enactment or anime CZcamsr is going to experiment with making a melee weapon out of it, 😂! This is a perfect mic-analysis review vid, thank you!

    Wondering if you can help me - I have the NTG5 and a Sony FX6 - is it true that I also need a recorder? Can it record audio straight into the camera? I want to use it attached to the camera (needs padding to fit into the mount)

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Před 3 měsíci

      You can use an XLR hot shoe adapter from Sony if the camera supports it.

    I have bought a NTG5 and I cannot get it to work with my Sony FDR AX700 Camcorder - My camcorder does have a 3.5mm jack input, I have bought an XLR lead with 6.5mm jack and a converter to 3.5mm, but it will not work. Or is there some kind of adapter I need to buy to put on the hotshoe?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Před rokem

      These mics require phantom power to operate. See if you camera has a powered option for the 3.5mm jack. I’m tipping you’ll need an powered XLR option if your camera can’t power it.

    Which focus settings are you using during your outdoor talking head sections in this video? I don’t notice any background pulsing. I’m currently a GH5 owner myself. Thanks for your reviews!

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy awesome, thank you for the response and thanks for putting out informative videos for GH5 shooters like myself.
      I’m trying to find a video that explains using the Panasonic XLR adapter to record audio on an XLR mic, but also recording video on a Atomos Ninja V at the same time. I’m not sure how those would work together or if it’s better just to get an external audio recorder and sync in post.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Před 2 lety

      @@bestinkamloops If you are using a Ninja, I am sure the audio will be pulled from the camera directly right? The XLR replaces the 3.5mm jack once it's connected to the camera.

    • @bestinkamloops
      @bestinkamloops Před 2 lety

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy I am not sure to be honest. Normally my Rode VideoMic NTG is plugged directly into my Ninja V 3.5mm jack and my levels are set through the monitor and not the camera. The video and audio is then recorded directly to the ssd that is attached to the Ninja V.

      I really like using XLR adapters for cameras, its an easy way to get great audio, but ZOOM also make some popular XLR recorders.

    Thanks for this! I've been using the Rode VideoMic Pro+ and have wondered how it would compare to something like this. When are you heading off on your USA venture?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Hospo. I haven't used the VideoMic Pro+ before but I am sure that's a great mic for it's application. This mic is very light and great as an overhead or voice over mic but not sure how well it would perform for vlogging but I am sure it can be used. The first trip away is in a few weeks time (just a quick one) and then there's a huge trip planned for March all being well. :)

    Hi. I love your videos. I see in one of you shots you show the NTG5 (I assume ) in a blimp would you say that blimp is worth it vs the wind sock? How does it compare ? Thanks.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Před 2 lety

      The wind sock is an essential for outdoor use. For indoors or for regular use the foam one will do the job.

  • @musicmanmultimedia3183

    Great video! But question, doesn’t the NTG5 need phantom power or do your camera preamps suffice?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Před 2 lety

      All condenser mics require phantom power unless they have a built-in battery. This is designed for an XLR mic input that can power the mic.

    I bought the ntg5 and use it with f3 zoom. I get the most dry and super low quality audio worse than regular mics. Has anyone experienced that, It picks so much background noise and it's just awful. I suspect is the mic itself so IDK

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy

    This is a great video. Thanks. I keep coming back to the NTG5 in this price range. I am apprehensive since almost with every online retailer I see customers having the same issues eventually with "Alien" type noises. It feels like the odds are not iny favour Yes Rode has great warranty but the potential inconvenience of it all. I'm from the Caribbean so warranty claims could get pretty interesting.. please update if you have any experience or problems. I've been hoping that persons get to root cause but many seem to say that it has been the mics themselves.. Cheers from across the pond.

      @@mickeymouse7861 I am using an XLR adapter for my camera that supports Phantom power. I showed it on screen in the first 15 seconds or so. The specifications say this: Power Requirements
      2 mA @ 48V phantom power - All condenser mics require phantom power if they don't have internal batteries. I hope this helped.
