- I bought an Old Town Discovery 119 Solo Sportsman to be a grab and go canoe to trick myself into exercising over the winter. In this video I bring no rods, I’m just paddling(poorly) and trying to not end up swimming.
If you want to see some people that know how to paddle check out @ndyakangler @AliexFolgueira and @flbasspaddler
Haha... had the same water problem first with mine; trying to paddle it lika a canou. Keep the paddle levelled down; don't paddle high just at the very side of the boat, but further out... holding your down arms, like a T. rex.
Thanks, I’ve had it out a couple more times and have gotten a little better. Definitely a learning curve. Once the ice is gone I’ll put the time in to get proficient.
The opening was great. Very entertaining. I thought I swore a lot lol.
Hey thanks, I’m planning to film a follow up review on the Old Town this weekend now that I’ve had it on the water a bunch. Thanks for watching.
I’m guilty of a fair amount of cussing myself, but after listening to you I never want to swear again👍
Fuck that, you’ll swear again… I believe in you.
Love the opening. Bravo!!!!!
Thank you.
Thought this was a canoeing video but it really was a comedy
@@chuckhiccox8086 thanks, I think.
I had a feeling you were in MA. Not the heaviest accent but all the F bombs, lol. Never realized how much we do it until you get around people from other parts of the country and theyre like, "LOL Jesus dude, you swear a lot!"
True story, Good Will Hunting came out when I was in high school, I saw it in the theater and was excited to watch it with my family when it hit Blockbuster. I asked my mother when it was over how she liked it.. she said “I didn’t like it, they make it sound like we talk like fucking animals.”
@@TheSwearingAngler Kid I knew in hs was originally from AR. His brother came up with his gf to visit and we all went to a Pats game. Im sure all the beer made the typical language even worse. Found out later she was horrified and said it sounded like everyone was about to start fighting the whole time.
It always looks weird to me when I see a kayak paddle being used with a canoe. Guess a canoe paddle is just my comfort zone. Seems like it might be a drier option.
Yeah it’s odd for sure, but the seat is kind of too low for a traditional paddle.. my form is has improved and it’s not nearly as wet a ride. Thanks for watching.
At first I was like why is he dropping f bomb every second but then I saw his youtube channel name lol
If you were watching because of the canoe I need to do a follow up video.. at first I hated it but I spent a lot of time in it the last few weeks and it’s fucking incredible.
I bought the same canoe just so I could magnet fish for the rod I lost 😂😂😅
Must be a hell of a rod.. did you find it?
@@TheSwearingAngler custom rod from these guys down in Texas called boss rods! 200$ pole and not yet 🥲 it was about 30/40 deep where I lost it 😭 my canoe is a 10/10 though! Lmfao
@@Collectorbrandz sorry about the rod but at least you got a great canoe out of the situation… I’ve had mine out probably 30 times now and really love it.
Your drip rings are too close to the blades.
Thanks, it was about the third time out with it that it all started to click.. I’ve had it out about 50 times in the last 7 months.
Yer paddle is upside down! Logo correct way up!
Yeah I caught that after awhile… funny thing is I think I was doing better with it upside down. I’ve taken it out a couple more times and feel a little more comfortable each time.
@@TheSwearingAngler Also move the drip gaskets closer to your hands. Way down on the ends of the paddle you are not using them to max effectiveness. You want it to drip outside the canoe but be out of the water on the stroke.
@@sweynforkbeard8857 thank you.. all issues were resolved months ago.. I’m working on a follow up review since I’ve had it on the water about 50+ times now.
@@TheSwearingAngler Great! It looks like a great canoe even for going on trips with packs. Not sure how well you can put it on your shoulders to carry it.
@@sweynforkbeard8857 I put the seat on top of my head.. it balances okay.
You hate it 😅
The Sportspal has spoiled me.
As a thicc middle aged guy myself, I'm curious as to how big of a guy you are? Love the specs of this canoe. Loved the vid and looks like an awesome channel. Earned a subscriber.
@@RustySprocket who you calling thicc? I’m fat… 5’10” 220ish. I’m dieting now so we’ll see, paddling didn’t help me shed anything.
I’ve been planning a follow up review.. I use it a lot and started to feel comfortable (figuring it out) within a few trips. There are quite a few vids of me fishing from it and it really does the job I got it for pretty well.
@@TheSwearingAngler I'm 6'1 240. You think I'd be uncomfortable in there?
@@RustySprocket it’ll be tight. I have the foot pegs back a few notches so I think fully extended you’d be okay but fully extended puts your feet under the front thwart… if you have large feet that doesn’t work. “Fish Anything” is a tall (super tall) dude with one.. check out his videos of how he fits in it… the seat isn’t as comfortable as they’d (Old Town) would have you believe.. it’s not terrible but I use a memory foam cushion if I’m gonna be out for more than a couple hours.. I use it a lot for 2 hour sessions before work. However some weekends I spend 6 hours at a time in it, maybe landing it to stretch a few hours in.
I bought it sight unseen but would definitely recommend test paddling one If possible. I got a super deal so if I hated it I’d be able to sell it without much loss.
@@TheSwearingAngler I'm 2-2.5hrs from anywhere that sells these. Does seem like I'd be a little crowded in the cockpit. Think I'll put the regular discovery 119 on the big list, and keep this one in the "I'll check it out if they have one" pile.
Thank you for answering all of my questions.
@@RustySprocket put an Old Town Pack on your list.. if I found the right deal that’s next for me… 33 lbs… another one to look for that’s a little bigger with an awesome seat is an Old Town Next. Good luck.
