When using the fire breath power, hold the directional button towards the switch to extend your range. You'll hit it eventually.

Just a quick comment on the whole cheating thing. Yes, I did use a save editor in order to make filming this guide easier to record. But in all fairness I never claimed to be a pro or doing some amazing no-hit run. And while it pains me that I'm as good as I once was, I only wanted to show where the music sheets were. Sorry for the 4 year late reply, but they unlock music for sound test if you haven't found out since then.
