this inter team is shit. They are playing with 11 players right? The passing options up front is almost zero. Inter relied way too much on pass to ronaldo and pray strategy
@@JugglernautNr9 Not entirely true because there were teams like Juventus which played with a semi modern diamond in the midfield, where Conte, Deschamps and Edgar Davids supported Zidane as a 10 who could lay off brilliant balls to Del Piero and Inzaghi up front. Their entire offensive output worth of 5 players was being matched by Ronaldo that season. But my comment was actually too over the top. So yes agreed to a good extent, this was the case with most other teams especially in Italy. Spain was better in this sense and premier league was also transforming with the arrival of Wenger into the modern era. Same with Bergkamp in 95 whose offensive prowess was hampered by the over-defensive style of the league and inter, he leaves and goes on to become my club legend and one of the best players to have played in england.
The problem with Ronaldo is that he does not like team play. He always wants to keep the ball for a longer period of time, which is why he misses so many opportunities
Lol you purposefully ignoring how bad this team tactics were? There is nobody for him to pass to in the final third. Even with more than 5 defenders on him, the space utilization by his teammates is so pathetic, Ronaldo can almost never find them free. Also Luigi Simoni's tactics didn't help, which was do nothing and just pass to Ronaldo. This team no-defensively was trash. They were only going to develop in the subsequent years with the signings of Baggio and Vieri, but as luck would have it, Ronaldo wouldn't be a part of it.
Yes and no. Yes, Ronaldo could be a very selfish player, he brought a lot of self confidence from his super season at barcelona and tried to dribble past 2 or 3 defenders regularly (which sometimes worked). On the other hand we have to say that tactics were different back in the 90s and early 2000s. Team play and tactics weren't as advanced as they are today. It was more a kick and rush mentality with a bit of Catenaccio. There weren't many passing possibilities at front. Not like today, where almost the whole team stands inside the opponents box.
As others mentioned , offensive positioning and movement weren't as advanced as today and they were more random , tactics were more focused on defense rather on offence so the reliance was on players individual abilities .Also Inter were a bad team and Ronaldo was the engine ,when Ronaldo got injured they went downhill . Today they practice offensive teamplays and tactics extensively and players get used to the tactics and put much focus on teamwork rather than individual work

That was how teams played back in the 90s and early 2000s. It was all about defense.
