Same as "Loki is bored and do something weird." in norse mythology =) Also, Zeus=Dick describes quarter(or half) of stories in greek mythology. The thing that always slays me is that David Jaffe, director of GoW 1, wanted the trilogy to end with the birth of Jesus and Kratos as one of the three wise men. Conceptuallly super funny

God of War does some interesting things with mythology. Firstly the entire story of the Greek Saga is based off of two myths. Their was a Myth where Ares and some other Gods wanted to overthrow Zeus and theirs a separate myth where their was a Prophesy that a son of Zeus would one day overthrow him. In Greek Myth Zeus manages to defy both possible Coups to his power. However in God of War it is a story that asks “what would happen if Zeus didn’t stop it in time?”
Great job beating Tomb Raider! But yes, please be careful about buying games you don't intend on playing just yet....you do not want to create "the backlog'' too early, a list of games you own and intend on playing, a list that never shortens, and only grows longer and longer with time.

This is a pretty good re-cap video for the original series, the only part I feel they got wrong was at 24:28 when he said Kratos “reluctantly” let Pandora go. It may just be Kratos’ voice actors delivery, but it always looked like Zeus’ goading words actually got to Kratos, made him see red, and lunge at Zeus instinctively. After Pandora sacrifices herself, Kratos calls out her name with shock in his voice. I think it’s meant to parallel Kratos’ daughters death; an innocent Kratos wanted to protect killed as a direct result of his blind rage.
Actually this is a FULL Retcon of the original story. The Comic this did not exist until years later they wanted to justify a mere mortal man like Kratos being able to wipe out gods.
The games came first, then they make comics or novels, to explain side stories. For instance that barbarian in the first game, was just some powerful warlord who bested Kratos, then they made a comic to add additional information. Usually comics and books are for worldbuilding or lore, additional info that game developers couldn't put in the game or thought of it later to expand the story.

As a history buff in general, and fan of alternate history, the God War stories are some of the best in gaming. I really wish there was a whole series novels around it.
You cosplay as Athena would be fire tbh also side note after GOW Ragnarok ppl asked Christopher Judge (MoCap and Voice actor for Kratos in GoW 2018 and Ragnarok) if he would be interested in portaying Kratos in a Live Action Adaptation of the GOW games, he says he's down but ppl are not agreeing since He's black (Christopher Judge) and kratos is greek, but since he's gon be covered in ashes of his dead family does it matter? YES! I will watch your whole playthrough VODs of this game if you end up playing it. Played it not long ago and the story of 2018 was amazing, and the game was beautiful.
Although It wasn't an option on the poll red dead redemption 2 is honestly a game I think HannaH should try, it can be quite a time-sink, however before I tried it I didn't think I could get emotionally attached to a character or game franchise, it is not only a visual masterpiece but also storytelling masterpiece, I have never (and probably will never) see any game like it in terms of quality, fun and content.
The video she watched gave the clean version while in the games it was visually showed more brutal & violent, like the time when Kratos killed Poseidon by putting its dumbs in Poseidon’s eye sockets breaking Poseidons skull from the inside or bashing Hercules face soo much that Hercules skull was being showed from scrapping its skin from punching.
I find hannah not being familiar with Greek mythology ironic, since its one of the most prominent and popular mythologies most people tend to learn/be taught about XD no offense meant, as Zeus fooling around, and the God's holding the world hostage in their Kardashian level drama, is all that first basically comes to people's minds lol
Oh the backlog trap... I've been there... I still got games from almost a decade ago that I haven't been able to get to because there's so many new games to play or old classics to come back to. Fortunately back then most of the games I had were from free Humble Bundle giveaways... but I do also have the entire Devil May Cry series that I got on sale but haven't gotten to because Yakuza, fighting games, and Dark Souls have me in a vice grip.

Just make sure you skip the last part of the video, that is about the 2018 reboot.
What I think should be highlighted in this video is the absolute hatred and anger felt by Kratos. The games were over the top violence personified through an ash covered man. understanding who he use to be and how he reacted to everything makes GOW 2018 a much more powerful of a story. I guess my recommendation would be to take all the violence and anger to heart when you see where he is now, and take a moment to realize everything he had to go through to get there.
I really recommend the 3 hour video They are the cinematics of the game and a great narration maybe not for a reaction but when you have time for yourself I think you would enjoy that video

Plenty of games have been adapted to anime and TV shows. It is more hit or miss in the anime context and the TV context is too rare to even say. The movie context is much more common and generally fails for three reasons. Because its a long form storyline being shoved into 2 hours like most failed book adaptations, because the gameplay is what really made an otherwise okay story work better(i.e. it only works as a game because it takes adavantage of the medium), or because they changed everything and its a complete bastardization of the source material. Though a good example of it done right is the first Silent Hill movie. They took parts of Silent Hill and made something in that style of horror that mostly worked and simply adapted the rest to works well in a movie. Not as well as the games but enough to make it a good horror movie.
You should start with the 1st 3 God of War games because A. The combat is like DOOM: Simple, fun, and makes you feel hyped up! B. They are really grande spectacles that's worth experiencing firsthand. A Synopsis doesn't give off how epic the journey is!
You might be confused a little bit, you may ask yourself why did kratos never use his power to save family in the first place with all that power to go back in time. Well, the Director at the game said that he was so angry. He completely forgot about his family and only focus on killing un Zeus himself.
God of War... a truth masterpiece... is always interesting seeing someone playing from the beginning. But unless this journey goes experienced back to back, most of the story is lost due to the way the franchise is presented... multiple consoles, including portables, plus the comics and on top of that, release order completely different from chronological order. That can make quite difficult, given the person would be bouncing around with different comics and consoles... a summary video is the best way nowadays to introduce a interested person into the ongoing franchise smoothly... without doubt, I will be here, when this journy with God of War 2018 begins... as always, great content! Kratos was betrayed and killed over and over again, and it would have destroyed most people to go through half of what he did. For what i consider a "spectacle fighter" style game, it has a much, much deeper and more interesting story than I ever expected. Through it all, Kratos remains devoted to his family, no matter how dark his road became.
There is one more thing that is canon to God of War before the 2018 game. Kratos traveled northwards and encountered Shovel Knight and had a duel with him before moving on.
Going back to older games isn't that bad. Sure the graphics aren't as good, but sometimes that is a benefit. It's usually easier to take in and understand the environment around you. Less getting blinded by the sun and whatnot. Plus they have this "do more with less" feel that is pretty charming.
See this is why anyone who is like "the plot/characters only gets interesting in the newer games" need to check themselves. The original games on PSP, PS2 and PS3 were all epic.

The show Arcane (based off of Lore in the game league of legends) exceeded everyone's expectations and was amazing. Has a 100% Tomato score and 96% Audience. Castlevania was a pretty sick anime aswell! I think the fact there animated helps with the adaption to TV.
You should check out the complete metal gear solid timeline video the series has just as good of an overarching story as god of war and it’s about espionage
Funnily enough God of War IS getting a show but they are skipping past the Greek saga (most assume it will be done in flashbacks) for reasons not stated yet since the project is still in the very early phases Also yeah Last of Us Part 1 is ps5 & the original is ps3/ps4 while the God of War games were originally ps2 & psp (a portable system) until the last game so visually the difference is light night and day. Some games are known a lot for their visuals while a lot of games, especially older series, are looked back to so fondly because gameplay (of course, if you play a game when it comes out the nostalgia will help you forgive graphics not looking like they do today). For example, people love GTA San Andreas but because all the chaos you could do, the story, the extra activities, and how well you can customize characters. But before GTA IV, the series was known to not look pretty rough (when I was younger I assumed it was because it was such a big world but the 4 came out and was such a huge difference)
Noice. Btw you may like the tomb raider before the reboot. I know i loved it even if a lot of people didn t. It started with the first actual reboot. First tomb raider games until number 5 has the same move they revamped it completely.
The problem with turning game franchises (as well as comics,books,etc) especially in this day and age is the the shorunners and writers either dont understand the source material and fail to do it proper justice or as recently shown,they purposely choose to alter the source material because they don't like something about it and they know better than even the experts that know it best/created it. Also Hollywood always has to put a spin on everything. Cant stay true to it without altering something....
I don't care what anybody says, normal difficulty is the intended way to play. On easy, you only need one thing, on hard, you only can do one thing (hyperbolically, of course). It can be too easy or too hard, but still what I think is the intended way to play.
Re: God of War being a good TV show: It _kind of_ already is... in that many of the plot points are ripped straight from various Greek myths, but changed so that Kratos is the main character. In that sense, there are always new movies and TV shows being made which heavily involve Greek mythology. For example, the bit about Ares making Kratos go mad and killing his wife and daughter mirrors the story of Hera making Hercules (Heracles) go mad and kill _his_ wife and children. So while yes, having a God of War branded show could do well, it's not *strictly* necessary.
I was never allowed to get any of the GOW games when I was a kid, because of the blood and nudity. Now I regret it after watching this. I could totally see this being a Netflix animated series.
So the thing to keep in mind is that God of War was originally just a single one off game that had some of the sickest game play of the generation but was also staged as a Greek Tragedy (far better literary scholars have made videos about this than me). That ended up becoming the main body Trilogy and three other games, on the PSP, that were set in between those main three games. A lot of the main story stuff came from Dennis Dyack (he's a dick, you don't need to learn about him) and he had a different plan for sequels if they were picked up that would follow basically the same trajectory with a very different ending. Kratos kills Zeus on Olympus and then looks out at the world now destroyed and just sits down on a stone. Everything and anything that ever mattered is now gone so he just does nothing realising how pointless all of this has always been. Now it's really not explained (in the version I read) whether he sits there for a minute or there is just a time lapse that lasted about a minute but Kratos sees a new star appear in the sky. Kratos as a spartan officer is still an educated man and he knows this star is too close to earth so he just gets up and sets off in the direction of this star because he is doing nothing else. Following it he gets to the coast on the Aegean see and sees a man, a real ass viking kind of man, repairing a boat (it's unclear of there was going to be any dialogue, it was the plan for the end of a game that would be like 5 years away) and they repair it together then setting sail. They come ashore in North Africa and while following the star they meet another man, a real ass Egyptian man, and all three continue to follow the star. It's implied they also killed their gods for vengeance. They finally find the star above a simple building in the middle east and they are the *Three fucking wise men and that's Jesus in there*,
I grew up with these games and I know that nowadays they aren't "pretty" by any means even though some hold up extremely well due to aesthetic choices. However one must always appreciate how we got to where we are. The classics are functional still and many rely on sheer fun through gameplay and narrative that weaves itself well into that same gameplay. You'll find yourself pleasantly surprised by how little you will care about the dated look when you immerse yourself
The comic book gives some extra info, but if you can play gow 1, 2 and 3 that is a better base. Kratos gets tricked by Ares into killing his family. Also Athena in God of War does NOT say the gods will take away Kratos' nightmares, but forgive them which Kratos wrongly implies as his nightmares being taken away. Betrayal after betrayal fuels Kratos' revenge. Also Pandora remembers him of his daughter. The God of War series has a cool story in the first three that plays with Greek mythology, but is very ‘early 2000’ angry guy, revenge story. The 2018 God of War and the sequel GoW: Ragnarok story takes the original three as a base, and tells an amazing, emotional journey and so many great characters. When you play God of War 2016 & Ragnarok. A lot of what’s in this video will get referenced. The visuals in the new GoW games are so beautiful - equal or better than TLOU. I think it’s easier to adapt a game’s story into a series than a movie, which is more often the case. You have so much more time for story telling in a game and series. Movies need to condense too much. TLOU’s story was also more structured like a show. Which must have made that an easier adaptation. ARCANE is another example.
GOW was always an amazing and emotional journey with amazing characters, the only thing 2018 and Ragnarok did was dumb down the gameplay and make it "cinematic" for the modern mainstream. I liked 2018 and Ragnarok but the story is good at best, is just that is competently executed and directed. I recommend watching "GOD OF WAR WAS ALWAYS DEEP YOU COWARDS!" by Endless Jess

As a history buff in general, and fan of alternate history, the God War stories are some of the best in gaming. I really wish there was a whole series novels around it.

You cosplay as Athena would be fire tbh also side note after GOW Ragnarok ppl asked Christopher Judge (MoCap and Voice actor for Kratos in GoW 2018 and Ragnarok) if he would be interested in portaying Kratos in a Live Action Adaptation of the GOW games, he says he's down but ppl are not agreeing since He's black (Christopher Judge) and kratos is greek, but since he's gon be covered in ashes of his dead family does it matter? He already sounds like him, looks like him (seriously he's fkn JACKED @ his Instagram), and is a great actor. Although It wasn't an option on the poll red dead redemption 2 is honestly a game I think HannaH should try, it can be quite a time-sink, however before I tried it I didn't think I could get emotionally attached to a character or game franchise, it is not only a visual masterpiece but also storytelling masterpiece, I have never (and probably will never) see any game like it in terms of quality, fun and content.
The video she watched gave the clean version while in the games it was visually showed more brutal & violent, like the time when Kratos killed Poseidon by putting its dumbs in Poseidon’s eye sockets breaking Poseidons skull from the inside or bashing Hercules face soo much that Hercules skull was being showed from scrapping its skin from punching.

I find hannah not being familiar with Greek mythology ironic, since its one of the most prominent and popular mythologies most people tend to learn/be taught about XD no offense meant, as Zeus fooling around, and the God's holding the world hostage in their Kardashian level drama, is all that first basically comes to people's minds lol
Oh the backlog trap... I've been there... I still got games from almost a decade ago that I haven't been able to get to because there's so many new games to play or old classics to come back to. Fortunately back then most of the games I had were from free Humble Bundle giveaways... but I do also have the entire Devil May Cry series that I got on sale but haven't gotten to because Yakuza, fighting games, and Dark Souls have me in a vice grip.
Fun Fact: There is an entire Egyptian arc in the comics between the Greek games and the Norse games.

There’s one key piece of information that the summary failed to give: the blades of chaos weren’t just bound to Kratos. They were seared into his arms, his flesh (very painfully).
-If you enjoy the use of myth woven into fiction then you might be pleased to hear that they made a TV adaption of Neil Gaiman's "American Gods". I very much enjoyed the first season.
-I'm not surprised that you found the story's creation myth to be familiar; the "war in heaven" is a popular trope.
-I think the "Death, destroyer of worlds" is a reference too the "Bhagavad Gita" another classic source of mythology. Incidentally, I hear that there's a movie about Robert Oppenheimer out now. He's quoted as having said the same line at the first test of an atomic bomb.

What I think should be highlighted in this video is the absolute hatred and anger felt by Kratos. The games were over the top violence personified through an ash covered man. understanding who he use to be and how he reacted to everything makes GOW 2018 a much more powerful of a story. I guess my recommendation would be to take all the violence and anger to heart when you see where he is now, and take a moment to realize everything he had to go through to get there.

Plenty of games have been adapted to anime and TV shows. It is more hit or miss in the anime context and the TV context is too rare to even say. The movie context is much more common and generally fails for three reasons. Because its a long form storyline being shoved into 2 hours like most failed book adaptations, because the gameplay is what really made an otherwise okay story work better(i.e. it only works as a game because it takes adavantage of the medium), or because they changed everything and its a complete bastardization of the source material. Though a good example of it done right is the first Silent Hill movie. They took parts of Silent Hill and made something in that style of horror that mostly worked and simply adapted the rest to works well in a movie. Not as well as the games but enough to make it a good horror movie.
You should start with the 1st 3 God of War games because
A. The combat is like DOOM: Simple, fun, and makes you feel hyped up!
B. They are really grande spectacles that's worth experiencing firsthand. A Synopsis doesn't give off how epic the journey is!
You might be confused a little bit, you may ask yourself why did kratos never use his power to save family in the first place with all that power to go back in time. Well, the Director at the game said that he was so angry. He completely forgot about his family and only focus on killing un Zeus himself.
God of War... a truth masterpiece... is always interesting seeing someone playing from the beginning. But unless this journey goes experienced back to back, most of the story is lost due to the way the franchise is presented... multiple consoles, including portables, plus the comics and on top of that, release order completely different from chronological order. That can make quite difficult, given the person would be bouncing around with different comics and consoles... a summary video is the best way nowadays to introduce a interested person into the ongoing franchise smoothly... without doubt, I will be here, when this journy with God of War 2018 begins... as always, great content! Got to love Hanna's energy with all of this😅

Not a bad thing to buy a game when it's on sale even if you're not going to play it for a while. That's a pro gamer move.
Kratos was betrayed and killed over and over again, and it would have destroyed most people to go through half of what he did. For what i consider a "spectacle fighter" style game, it has a much, much deeper and more interesting story than I ever expected. Through it all, Kratos remains devoted to his family, no matter how dark his road became.
There is one more thing that is canon to God of War before the 2018 game. Kratos traveled northwards and encountered Shovel Knight and had a duel with him before moving on.
Going back to older games isn't that bad. Sure the graphics aren't as good, but sometimes that is a benefit. It's usually easier to take in and understand the environment around you. Less getting blinded by the sun and whatnot.
Plus they have this "do more with less" feel that is pretty charming.

The show Arcane (based off of Lore in the game league of legends) exceeded everyone's expectations and was amazing. Has a 100% Tomato score and 96% Audience. Castlevania was a pretty sick anime aswell! I think the fact there animated helps with the adaption to TV.
It's a good idea to watch a couple different recaps just to grasp as much as you can, since there is a LOT to know from Kratos' past
Outside of "The Last of Us" there are a couple of other fantastic video game to TV adaptations. "Arcane" & "Castlevania" being two great examples.

Funnily enough God of War IS getting a show but they are skipping past the Greek saga (most assume it will be done in flashbacks) for reasons not stated yet since the project is still in the very early phases
Also yeah Last of Us Part 1 is ps5 & the original is ps3/ps4 while the God of War games were originally ps2 & psp (a portable system) until the last game so visually the difference is light night and day. Some games are known a lot for their visuals while a lot of games, especially older series, are looked back to so fondly because gameplay (of course, if you play a game when it comes out the nostalgia will help you forgive graphics not looking like they do today). For example, people love GTA San Andreas but because all the chaos you could do, the story, the extra activities, and how well you can customize characters. But before GTA IV, the series was known to not look pretty rough (when I was younger I assumed it was because it was such a big world but the 4 came out and was such a huge difference)

Btw you may like the tomb raider before the reboot. I know i loved it even if a lot of people didn t. It started with the first actual reboot. First tomb raider games until number 5 has the same move they revamped it completely.

The problem with turning game franchises (as well as comics,books,etc) especially in this day and age is the the shorunners and writers either dont understand the source material and fail to do it proper justice or as recently shown,they purposely choose to alter the source material because they don't like something about it and they know better than even the experts that know it best/created it.
Also Hollywood always has to put a spin on everything. Cant stay true to it without altering something....

I don't care what anybody says, normal difficulty is the intended way to play. On easy, you only need one thing, on hard, you only can do one thing (hyperbolically, of course). It can be too easy or too hard, but still what I think is the intended way to play.

Re: God of War being a good TV show: It _kind of_ already is... in that many of the plot points are ripped straight from various Greek myths, but changed so that Kratos is the main character. In that sense, there are always new movies and TV shows being made which heavily involve Greek mythology. For example, the bit about Ares making Kratos go mad and killing his wife and daughter mirrors the story of Hera making Hercules (Heracles) go mad and kill _his_ wife and children. So while yes, having a God of War branded show could do well, it's not *strictly* necessary.

I was never allowed to get any of the GOW games when I was a kid, because of the blood and nudity. Now I regret it after watching this. I could totally see this being a Netflix animated series.
So the thing to keep in mind is that God of War was originally just a single one off game that had some of the sickest game play of the generation but was also staged as a Greek Tragedy (far better literary scholars have made videos about this than me). That ended up becoming the main body Trilogy and three other games, on the PSP, that were set in between those main three games. A lot of the main story stuff came from Dennis Dyack (he's a dick, you don't need to learn about him) and he had a different plan for sequels if they were picked up that would follow basically the same trajectory with a very different ending.
Kratos kills Zeus on Olympus and then looks out at the world now destroyed and just sits down on a stone. Everything and anything that ever mattered is now gone so he just does nothing realising how pointless all of this has always been. Now it's really not explained (in the version I read) whether he sits there for a minute or there is just a time lapse that lasted about a minute but Kratos sees a new star appear in the sky. Kratos as a spartan officer is still an educated man and he knows this star is too close to earth so he just gets up and sets off in the direction of this star because he is doing nothing else. Following it he gets to the coast on the Aegean see and sees a man, a real ass viking kind of man, repairing a boat (it's unclear of there was going to be any dialogue, it was the plan for the end of a game that would be like 5 years away) and they repair it together then setting sail. They come ashore in North Africa and while following the star they meet another man, a real ass Egyptian man, and all three continue to follow the star. It's implied they also killed their gods for vengeance. They finally find the star above a simple building in the middle east and they are the *Three fucking wise men and that's Jesus in there*,
You should play the portal and half life games!
I grew up with these games and I know that nowadays they aren't "pretty" by any means even though some hold up extremely well due to aesthetic choices. However one must always appreciate how we got to where we are. The classics are functional still and many rely on sheer fun through gameplay and narrative that weaves itself well into that same gameplay. You'll find yourself pleasantly surprised by how little you will care about the dated look when you immerse yourself

The comic book gives some extra info, but if you can play gow 1, 2 and 3 that is a better base. Kratos gets tricked by Ares into killing his family. Also Athena in God of War does NOT say the gods will take away Kratos' nightmares, but forgive them which Kratos wrongly implies as his nightmares being taken away. Betrayal after betrayal fuels Kratos' revenge. Also Pandora remembers him of his daughter.
Alsp don't fall for the "Kratos finally grew up" narrative that's being spun by new fans as if he never had reason for his anger or depth before the 2018 game.

The God of War series has a cool story in the first three that plays with Greek mythology, but is very ‘early 2000’ angry guy, revenge story. The 2018 God of War and the sequel GoW: Ragnarok story takes the original three as a base, and tells an amazing, emotional journey and so many great characters. When you play God of War 2016 & Ragnarok. A lot of what’s in this video will get referenced. The visuals in the new GoW games are so beautiful - equal or better than TLOU.
I think it’s easier to adapt a game’s story into a series than a movie, which is more often the case. You have so much more time for story telling in a game and series. Movies need to condense too much. TLOU’s story was also more structured like a show. Which must have made that an easier adaptation. ARCANE is another example.
GOW was always an amazing and emotional journey with amazing characters, the only thing 2018 and Ragnarok did was dumb down the gameplay and make it "cinematic" for the modern mainstream.
I liked 2018 and Ragnarok but the story is good at best, is just that is competently executed and directed.
