one of my favourite things about this song is the fact that it says "till someone's on their KNEES." KNEES, plural. which means he's not on one knee, proposing, he's on his KNEES begging her not to leave him.
makes that part hit so much harder and absolutely destroys me.

  • @geegeezlouis86
    @geegeezlouis86 Před 10 měsíci +327

    KEEPING THE SWIFTIES FEDDDDD ♥️
My personal interpretation on this is that she's taking what's meant to be "rich people problems" and twisting it to mean, the problems surrounding this celebration of a proposal and also her mental health. She jokes that her dorm was made for her because it was once a madhouse, and later people say "what a shame she's fucked in the head". Champagne sounds like "sham pain", as in the sort of denigration and stigma surrounding poor mental health. So like, she feels like everyone else does about this rejection - that she's messed in the head for refusing to take what seems to be a loving relationship any further. She can't even give a reason for why she doesn't want to, she just knows it's the right decision. So she says "hey, you'll find someone better, real love, and you won't remember this or all the problems I caused you for reasons I cannot even explain to you"

I didn’t intrepret it that way. I think being rich and happy & even being let down by a beautiful person is still a “champagne problem” compared to other things going on in the world.
Champagne means youre going to celebrate something, but there’s no celebration here. There is only mourning and a little self-pity that comes after every break-up; and self-pity can be seen as a “champagne problem”. But TS writes that it will get better for this person one day.

Taylor has 2 storytelling albums: Folklore and Evermore. These albums for the large part aren't about her life, they're songs she wrote in the perspective of other people or characters that inspired her. Either from books she read or movies she watched or just friends' anecdotes, whatever inspired her to write, she used towards songwriting.

The phrase "champagne problems" here have many different meanings all at once. Yes, champagne problems are usually "rich people problems" but it is also used here for describing problems that people find insignificant and trivial, so that is why she keeps saying that after every sentence. So his hometown sceptics also finds all their problems insignificant and not really problems at all. Champagne problems also can mean literal alcohol problems, so she hints the female charachter might have problems with that and her mental health (hence "Madhouse, it´s made for me") That is also why he won´t remember all her champagne problems, both "insignificant" problems and mental. This is a fictional story btw.

She wrote this with her boyfriend Joe Alwyn at the time whom she dated for 7 years. He wrote the song with her under the pseudonym - William Bowery. Although it's never been talked about, I think this was his experience, where he proposed to a girl (before Taylor) who turned him down. So, Taylor put the story to music.

  • @phoebephilps6613
    @phoebephilps6613 Před 5 měsíci +3

This song has such a sad meaning. When looking at the lyrics Taylor describes a couple that meet up one day. One has brought a ring insinuating they want to marry the other, whilst the other arrives intending to end the relationship. My favourite little comment is “knees” instead of “knee” it implies that the person proposing is on both knees begging the other to accept which is just a heartbreaking depiction in my opinion. Plus “Midas” is a mythological king that ended up dying due to his greed as everything he touches turned to gold so he ended up starving as he was unable to eat. She is basically saying that for one the relationship was fruitful and and rewarding (the person with the ring) whilst for the other it didn’t feel enough they were starving in the relationship. An interesting idea and lesson that a relationship will never work if one person in it feels as thought they need more.

'Sometimes you just don't know the answer till someone's on their knees and asks you.'
Usually you propose on one knee, but he was on his knees because he was begging her.
The title is such an irony, because for them her rejecting him felt like the end of the world, but for the town people it was just champagne problems (problems that, when compared to issues of poverty, natural disasters, and war, are not that big of a deal. It also usually refers to rich people, whose biggest problems are which champagne to choose). For those people her rejecting his proposal was not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but for them it was everything.

You should listen to a trilogy of songs that Taylor created for the folklore album. It is about a love triangle between 3 characters that she created (named betty, augustine and james), each song represents the pov of one of these characters. Basically betty and james were a couple, but then james cheated on betty with augustine during summer (they were highschoolers at the time), and then he regretted it. The first song is called "cardigan" and it is from betty's pov (the main girl), but years later as an adult. Singing about how the love betrayed her but she knew he would go back to her. The 2nd song is called "august" and it is from augustine's pov (the other chick) once she realized that what she thought was real love, was just a summer thing for him. And the third song is called "betty" and it is from James's pov (the boy) when he realized that he actually missed and wanted betty and that he had messed up, so he was trying to get her back. It would be awesome if you did a video for this 3 songs!

Loving all your reactions. It's great watching you read the lyrics too and properly take in the reason people love taylor Swift, her songwriting! I would suggest the following songs to listen too:
    Right where you left me
    Getaway car
    Long live
    Exile
    Maroon
    You're loosing me
    Thanks for the great content!

This song was actually fictional but I'm glad you liked it! Other songs you can react to:
    1. Betty, Cardigan, and August (it's a fictional trilogy told in 3 different POVs)
    2. Last Great American Dynasty
    3. Long Live

"sometimes you just don't know the answer 'till someone's on their knees and asks you" typically you propose on one knee, so the fact that he's on his knees, basically begging her, is so heartbreaking man

I was trying to leave a comment underneath the "All Too Well" -Taylor Swift [Taylor's Version] reaction video, *The comments are off on THAT video. 😬* I wanted to explain that it is speculated that the "Red Scarf" is a metaphor for her Virginity. Hence the lyrics, " But You keep my old scarf from that very 1st week, 'cause it reminds you of INNOCENCE & it smells like me, You CAN'T GET RID OF IT, 'cause you remember... All too well."
Also, the "crumbled up piece of paper lying here, 'cause I remember it all, all, all ..."
Once you crumble up a piece of paper, it can never be uncrumbled, even if you try to lay it flat again, the piece of paper still shows all of the damage/wrinkles.
I really HOPE that I helped make sense of it ALL (Too Well). Haha😄😬😊
    Taylor is a TRUE POET.
    Sent With Love 💞, Katrina

when evermore came out, she was in a relationship with joe alwyn who is our beloved person (for swifties) he was also her longest relationship, she has written songs with him during quarantine on folklore evermore and midnights, she said that they love listening to sad songs and they have made some saddest songs together, so this song is was written by both her and joe and its about two people who had diff plans for the same night, he brought a ring and she went there to break up, this song isnt about her personal life. Its sad now that her and joe have broken up after 7 years so these songs just hurt even more bc of the fact that they wrote it together and these lyrics connect with her life now, yall should def checkout diff songs from evermore.

This song isn’t actually about her personal life. During the pandemic she made 2 albums where she created fictional characters and did a lot of storytelling with her music. So anything from folklore and evermore are fictional and not about her personal life. This is one of my favorite songs by Taylor!!

"Champagne Problems" . She wrote the song with English Actor, and fiancee' (at the time) Joe Alwyn (along with 33 other songs in total) , who is credited under the pseudonym William Bowery, and produced it with Aaron Dessner. Lyrically, the song is a sentimental ballad written from the perspective of a troubled girlfriend who turns down her lover's earnest marriage proposal due to her not feeling ready (eventually she did say yes). It depicts a narrator taking responsibility for the breakup and mourning the faded relationship.
"Champagne Problems" received critical acclaim for its portrayal of heartbreak and mental health. The song peaked within the top 25 of Australia, Canada, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK, the US, and the Billboard Global 200. It was included on Swift's sixth headlining concert tour, the Eras Tour (2023).
FUN FACT: The follwing songs were written either about or with him in mind.
    Cruel Summer Rep
    End game
    Dont blame me
    Delicate
    Gorgeous
    King of my heart
    Dancing with our hands tied
    Dress
    Call it what you want
    New years day
    Lover
    The archer
    I think he knows
    Paper rings
    Cornelia street
    London boy
    After glow
    Daylight
All the girls you loved before
    Invisible string
    The lakes
    Willow
    Long story short- parcially
    Lavender Haze
    Sweet nothing
    Mastermind
    The great war
    Glitch
    You're losing me
