Shoddy detective work is a longstanding tradition in the police forces. The likely reason Jack the Ripper was never caught was that for a very long time the police assumed it was a (literal) butcher or a surgeon doing the killings because the victims were eviscerated and had organs removed, so they wasted a ton of time interviewing butchers all over London.
Yeah, as a casual enjoyed of true crime myself, the portrayal of the downright laughable incompetence of the police is almost too kind. Considering how many serial killers got away simply because the cops flat-out refused to do anything.
I actually knew very little about Angela Lansbury before your videos, but after her death I heard that in this show she pushed for actors (particularly older actors) who were at risk of losing their guild memberships and thus their health insurance to get roles. What a queen.
Interestingly enough, Jessica Fletcher in 'pure barfly mode' might be prefigured by Angela Lansbury's character in Death on the Nile: Salome Otterbourne, a famed murder mystery author who struggles with alcoholism (and keeps mispronouncing Poirot's name as 'Porridge.)
I just watched that! It was hysterical every time she slid into the frame to talk to "porridge" or overreacted to being accused of murder, blackmail or forced retirement 😂

Fun review, but I kept waiting for your scathing comments on the shoulder pads on Vivian's outfits. She looked as though she could take out the whole room at the benefit party if she turned around too quickly. Love your Murder She Wrote videos. It makes my day when I see a new one pop up. Thanks for all your hard work.
I adore you and your channel. Whenever I watch MSW now, when someone dies I automatically hear your sound effect in my head followed by, "sooo, they're dead"...
Roses.... I just want to thank you for this series. I remember my grandmother watching this show when she babysat me as a little kid. We lost her a couple of years ago to dementia, and watching (and re-watching) your MSW videos has helped me work through my loss and grief as I remember her watching the show while I sat on the floor at her feet making pictures with my grandpa (who we also, sadly lost around the same time) on my Lite Brite.
New show on Peacock called Poker Face with Natasha Lyonne is basically the same premise as Murder She Wrote with modernized cast. Both about a lady always around when a murder just randomly happens, good instincts from the lives they lead, it's always them who figures it all out with some minor info, they sometimes confront the murderer completely alone in vulnerable circumstances, neither one seemm the least perturbed that someone is murdered every week in their life, even when they travel around murder happens in their close circle, witty ladies. I really loved both shows and would watch again 10/10
Your series about Murder She Wrote made me rediscover the show and I've been rewatching it with my mom. Since I started watching every single episode a year ago, I've felt my mental health slowly heal. I want to thank you for your work, time, and humor that you put into every video, Roses.
OMG I remember this episode! Musta been fun for Angela Lansbury! Unrelatedly, a suggestion for a film: the claymation ”The Adventures of Mark Twain” - it’s weird and dark and freaked me out as a kid, but I loved it (and it’s free here on YT :)
That film was wild. I want to know what producer watched the scene in which Satan creates life and proceeds to horrifically torture his creations whilst monologing about the futility of existence and proclaimed "this is the perfect film for the family! Let's air it every other Sunday morning!"
These are always such fun. I'd like to lobby for season 6 "The Szechuan Dragon" which is one of the stranger ones with a pregnant Donna and Grady house sitting for Jessica and being menaced by a group of international mercenaries. There is some Kung fu. Jessica solves the mystery over the phone and Seth saves the day.
Alright! Just in Time! Please do To the Last Will I Grapple with Thee. Not only a clever resolution, but Angela Lansbury playing alongside her Sweeney Todd Co Star George Hearn (yes Len Cariou was also in this show, but this is my suggestion). I swear I will figure out Patreon and donate to you specifically to see this covered. Name your price.
It is so perfect that a character with such a bonkers secret like Vivianne is played by Pamela Bellwood who was Claudia Blaisdel on the original Dynasty. Her character there would have gotten into a similar situation for sure... now I wonder if she actually did.
This is one of my favorite episodes, it's just so nuts!! Happy to see the cat with the death wish, I've been laughing about that "BASKET NO!!" Ever since the stream the other night LMAO.
Thanks for the video. You could tell this would be a weird episode if it had Pamela Bellwood (crazy Claudia on Dynasty). And you could tell the bartender was going to play a big part as he was cast with Stanley Kamel, a prominent guest actor in these years.
Excellent vid! I recently saw an episode where 2 ballet dancers were defecting from the USSR and the KGB officer tasked to recover them flirted with JBF the entire episode. Fantastic episode.
The really weird part of this episode is that the bartender didn't immediately recognize Jessica, well known local celebrity, I mean come on. Also please review "Jessica Behind Bars"
It’s worth watching every season of MSW, aside from it being a great show countless stars had early roles in this series. My dear mum and I watched this together when I was just a wee lad in the early 90s along with David Suchet’s Poirot. Props to Roses for the continued coverage 👌
Oh my god, so excited to see a new That Time On Murder She Wrote! I love these videos. Roses, you are the reason I began watching Murder She Wrote and have the entire box set.
Woop! My night owlishness got me here as it came out! Also please do an episode in "The Mirror Crack'd" Angela Lansbury and Agatha Christie! Also Elizabeth Taylor spitting out barbs like no tomorrow!
I love that movie-Lansbury's Miss Marple must have been an inspiration for her casting as Jessica. Even the ending reveal feels very "Murder, She Wrote"-like.
If you haven’t done one can you do one on the two part pilot? I feel Murder she wrote is a show where the pilot is as good as the rest of the show. As well as establishing Jessica as a best selling author in a way that feel authentic to her character.
I live for this series. I’m always excited when I see a new one up. I love your perspective on the episodes. It’s similar to my husband and I when we watch the show. There is an episode that has to do with a casino in season 1 or 2, I believe, where the killer breaks through the office door to kill the victim. The next scene is the police walking in and out of the room with the door still closed, but they cut the whole middle of the door out leaving the edges intact 🤣 We were DYING watching this.
I loved it when she walked on stage at the Tony Awards one year and introducd herself by telling the audience that she had been in several stage shows herself but that they might remember her as that nosy old woman from Cabot Cove. And, the crowd went wild. It was classic Angela Lansbury!
Rewatching the series as I play coral island, I finished I think it was Deadline for Murder? Season 3. That one...I cackled purely for Jess giving out burns to people 😂 Love your videos, they're always a treat. Thank you!! 💜
Firstly the kiss-up part (but I really mean it), your videos are wonderful. Funny, informative and a joy to watch. Now a request... I would love for you to review and roast MSW Season 7 Episode 19 "Thursday's Child". "Why" you ask? Is it a great episode? Is Angie especially wonderful in it? Is it interesting that Vera Miles replaced Dorothy Malone? Nope.. I ask because ... I'M IN IT!!!! I play the incredibly pivotal (my tongue is actually piercing my cheek as I type 'pivotal') role of "Taxi Driver". But my character DOES discover the body. Regardless of your decision, I love your work. It brightens my day. Thanks, Scott
I used to bartend and i immediately knew it was frank as soon as the knife came out. It may not have been wrapped up, but i appreciated the little detail that could be picked up by ppl who know the knife. It’s like when you watch a movie with like one or two lines of foreign language dialog with no subtitles; most of us sit there like 😐, the the ppl who know what they are saying get an extra little hint at the plot
Oh yes! Another That Time on Murder She Wrote episode! That accent from barfly Jessica gives me life. I love it when Jessica plays a character. They’re alway so wonderfully silly. May I request season 8 episode 13 Incident in Lot 7 please? It’s a Murder, She Wrote packed chock full of Hitchcock references and genuinely is the first episode I recommend to people (after I’ve recommended your channel too of course!) Awesome video again.
I am so happy you covered this episode. I love this episode sooo much. From all the twists to the Cabot Cove charm to Jess being fabulous this is such a great ep. I will say I think bar fly!Jess' accent is an attempt at a really thick Boston accent. I'm from New Hampshire smack between Maine and Massachusetts and I would know that accent anywhere. Yeah it's pretty bad, but c'mon "Awgie" and "Patatah Pahncake at Suffock" just tickles me. Same with the attempts at the old school Maine accents like Floyd's, these are all accents I grew up around and could pick them out anywhere. You mentioned how the previous ep you covered gave you such great Chicago vibes, I get the same in most of these eps with my home region. I just love how they show New England even if the accents are hilariously bad.
Plese revisit the pilot!? Lansbury's performance was so artful. Its truly captivating and impressive. She didnt stoop to playing on TV. She elevated the medium. Im gushing, but I just saw it and was taken aback by the respect and investment put into this show by its performers.
One that I caught not too long ago which stuck out to me was "The Error of her Ways," I think. It was an episode that OPENED with Jessica solving the crime.
My only criticism would be that, wonderful though the bar scene is, that is clearly Angela Lansbury acting and not Jessica. It happens a couple of other places in the series too. Also, I can't believe the ridiculous 80's shoulderpads didn't get a mention! They were truly spectacular.

Basket's as excited for this video as I am.
Once again, I come to you, hat in hand to ask you to cover "A Very Good Year For Murder". It has baby Billy Zane!
I second this persons vote for Szechwan dragon it’s hilarious
This episode reminds me of the episode where Jessica is in charge of a brothel and its weird in all the right ways, it's season 4 episode 9 I think
Yes, I’m so happy you’re back I love your murder she wrote videos your videos are a little getaway from the stressful world and I thank you for that
5:25 that duck spoon rest is positively extra.
The knife looks like a fillet knife but the guard is positively extra.
Spicy Murder She Wrote? Yes please!
Girl, I’ll happily rock a pearl necklace and diamond necklace at the same time any day. Great video as always, it’s my favorite CZcams series💕
Sorry for the copyright claim, here's engagement for your troubles.
also Jessica just solving crimes left and right and i swear she ain't wrote a book in years but they say she keep spitting them out. Like WHEN
Please never stop these!!!! They give me life and serotonin
Rewatching the series as I play coral island, I finished I think it was Deadline for Murder? Season 3. That one...I cackled purely for Jess giving out burns to people 😂
Love your videos, they're always a treat. Thank you!! 💜
The take away: Nobody in that one house can keep track of their keys to save their lives
Thanks,
Scott
I was having the worst day but then this video. At like, 7:05 Jess is standing exactly how teachers used to stand when they were pissed at me. 😂😂
That makes sense. Jess was an English teacher before she became a celebrated writer-we all know the "schoolteacher in a bad mood" manner.
"his hair frightens me"
me watching the two episodes of buffy where Seth Green had black hair
Oh yes! Another That Time on Murder She Wrote episode! That accent from barfly Jessica gives me life. I love it when Jessica plays a character. They’re alway so wonderfully silly. May I request season 8 episode 13 Incident in Lot 7 please? It’s a Murder, She Wrote packed chock full of Hitchcock references and genuinely is the first episode I recommend to people (after I’ve recommended your channel too of course!)
Awesome video again.
Right off the bat, I love the kitty cheer at the beginning
The bartender was also Dr. Kroger on Monk! It's so weird to see him younger with that hair.
Hey Roses, I just want to thank you for these videos because now I've started watching this fantastic show and I feel like I'm a seasoned veteran.
I really love your turn of phrase PUR. So funny and amazing.
One that I caught not too long ago which stuck out to me was "The Error of her Ways," I think. It was an episode that OPENED with Jessica solving the crime.
Oh man, that dress at 1:22. Back in the early ‘90s I sewed myself a similar dress (mine was navy & white, though). I thought I was SO sophisticated.
My only criticism would be that, wonderful though the bar scene is, that is clearly Angela Lansbury acting and not Jessica. It happens a couple of other places in the series too. Also, I can't believe the ridiculous 80's shoulderpads didn't get a mention! They were truly spectacular.
That hair helmet is practically solid. His head is more hair spray than anything else. Another hilarious one, Roses!!
You are clearly brilliant and very funny.i love your murder, she wrote reviews .the John Madden car parking movement is hilarious.please keep it up .Thank You Pushing up Roses for cheering me up😊
Once a year, I do a PUR rewatch. All your friends are doing it...
OMGoodness! Shaariff 😉 2 & 1 lover ❤ Thank you PUR!!!
This is the episode recap video I didn't know I was desperately looking forward to.
Just brilliant. 💯
As I mentioned, because of you I've begun binge watching Murder She Wrote. I actually just watch this episode on Thursday so I'm anxious to see your take on the installment.
Peacock has it.
@@bkp1283, Pushing Up Roses is on Peacock?
The teeny lisence plate is from the War Amps Here in Canada they sent them out for Donations to help the War Amputees, and later on The Child amputees
Your MSW series inspired me to start the show and I LOVE it. Sadly Amazon only has the first 6 seasons, and I'm steadily chugging my way through the episodes, but the rewatchability is high. 😄
@Kaye If you have Peacock, you can watch all 12 seasons. If you have Roku, you can even watch the long length Murder She Wrote movies
@@DomiNathanSports I don't have Peacock unfortunately, but thank you for letting me know 🙂
I new PushingUpRoses episode always perks up my day, also hoping to one day see an "Erie, Indiana" episode review.
I recommend season 2 episode Nine Jessica Behind Bars, Jessica visits a womans prison and is held captive when an uprising occurs. I also love your channel
It's always wonderful to see your Murder She Wrote videos in my notifications!
Makes the day just a little bit brighter every time. Thank you and keep them coming! :)
Oh nice! New episode. I just finished binge viewing the rest of these episodes so perfect timing.
Always love new videos 😍
I'd love if you covered any of the episodes that guest starred John Astin as Harry the eccentric realtor
Please review Keep the Homefries Burning. It is an early one with some fun side Cabot Cove characters and the ever lovable riffs between Seth and Amos.
I remember this MSW episode a lot, also this was also shot on location in a local town, which is why there’s a continuity error with the cars parked because they moved vehicles when they wrapped filming for the day!
I live for your videos. I'm a child of nick at night so I love these shows! Please do more Hitchcock and MAYBE Columbo?! 😅
Great suggestions!
Columbo!
Can we acknowledge the tiny film cameras on Vivian’s collar halfway through video?
FASHION
Thank you for continuing to keep this series going!! ❤
I'm just sitting here patiently, watching all your videos, waiting for the day when you cover ALL THE EPISODES.
I'm pretty sure it's a filleting knife! 😂
Love your channel! ❤✌
I thought so, too.
No, an actual bartender identifued it as a bartender's knife in one of the comments
I've always loved Murder She Wrote and was the only person my age who did, so its nice to find you and know others around my age also enjoy this content. I enjoy watching your videos even more than the show now.
