    Super helpful. I do autocross so there's no official tracks near me. Having the ability to make my own custom tracks for each event is great.

      @@3s1kill Elsewhere on my channel I specifically tested this at an autocross. Definitely very useful for comparing your runs with some decent data.

    nice review man! I think once dragy adds the obd2 functionality it's going to be a really great option. hoping they add more export features too since I like to use racerender for my videos 🤞

      Thanks! Definitely looking forward to the OBDII piece for our other cars. With respect to RaceRender, at least on the iOS version we tested, we had the option to export as a .vbo file which does play nicely with RaceRender.

      @@LapoftheWorld didn't realize vbo works with racerender I've only used it with circuit tools, thanks for that! looks like it will work really well for my setup whenever they release that obd2 reader!

    I was turned off by the dash mounting adhesive, but it is good they are looking into other mounting methods.
    Question on your mount, have you had any issues with mount that hods the phone, shift in hard cornering? I say shift, should say rotate.

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  Před 10 měsíci

      Yeah, the mounting piece is something I specifically asked them about as I could see that being a turn off to some or, worst-case, failing tech some places. There are some inexpensive 3rd party options if you dig around for "dragy mount" even now. My phone mount is a RAM mount and no, I've never had it move really at all. There's some knurling on the ball ends so once you tighten the screw on the arm "it's not going anywhere" 😅

    Being a former NSX owner I feel a slight kinship here (full disclosure - loved that car :-) Currently studying all lap timing options for my recently acquired 3 liter sports racer. I fall into the easy UI camp, no doubt. Climb in the car, push a button, get on with the business of development work, never having to think about whether filming or data recording is actually functioning. That would be the perfect setup. Is the visible to the sky requirement mandatory? Will the unit function if under composite bodywork?

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  Před 5 měsíci

      Unknown on the composite interference. Might depend on composition with respect to how figuratively transparent it is vs. glass

      Yeah, it's on the short-list. Had we not had both cars down through the spring it probably would've happened already. It looks like a fun track though.

    For some reason at Putnam Park the app will not let me see lap times. It even put the info it did collect in route instead of track. Really disappointed and thinking about sending it back

    • @LapoftheWorld
      @LapoftheWorld  Před 13 dny

      @@noyoucanthavemyhandle Bummer! So far it's recognized everywhere I've taken it. That said, I've had beacon width challenges with other apps/devices such that they basically never registered me crossing start/finish so a session just looked like a weird single stream. Unsure if there's a beacon width setting in there, but you could test with the custom track feature in a parking lot or something to test the S/F line width sensitivity?

      @@varavara1684 No, it does need to be tethered to a phone or tablet that can run the Dragy Lap app. For a stand alone solution you'd want to look at something like the Qstarz 8000Gt that I've also reviewed, or another similar device.

      @@fireskydiver7 Hopefully that means they've updated the android app since I filmed this last year. At the time they specifically asked that I use an iPhone since it would support the dual camera and I think one other feature so I absconded with the wife's phone to film this. Personally the less I have to deal with all of the proprietary compatibility nonsense in that ecosystem, the better. The android version, even at the time, did essentially everything I needed it to, but I also wanted to catch everything in my overview.

    • @fireskydiver7
      @fireskydiver7 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@LapoftheWorld I completely understand. There is also a chance that maybe the Google Pixel didn't have the update at the time, (I saw the UI of one in the video thinking that may be your main device). Just as a heads up, higher end Android devices that are around the same price range as iPhones cost $100 in materials to make and roughly $150 in labor/electricity, while iPhones only cost $10 in materials and $120 in labor/electricity. Its a crazy world we live in considering everyone who just goes with the flow thinks their CrApple product is better lol. It isn't all about cost either, their phones are purpose designed to break easily with their flat screen and have less protection for the motherboard. They are a lot more difficult to repair overall as well. At least we Android users get the Prince Rupert Drop design with the curved screens making it much more difficult to break on a floor drop, and companies that solely use Phillips style screws. Thanks for your time and have a great day/night.
