  • When Daniela had a stroke at the age of 18, walking again became a major step in her rehabilitation. Hear her inspirational story of recovery. Plus, therapists explain how important it is to get patients with brain injuries to take those crucial first steps, how the desire to walk again can be a great motivator, and how even the smallest steps can mean big improvements. Listen in as Daniela attempts to regain something most of us take for granted.

    it took me less than 2 months to walk after my stroke, I am lucky but I had to work very hard and continue to do so, now at 11 months post stroke, I am getting much quicker and more fluid, also my body and arm is getting stronger. the key is to be persistent and kick butt every single day whether you feel like it or not. Its not easy but its soooo worth it. dont let anyone put limits on you. giving up is never an option, to be successfulyou must adapt this mindset!!! push further every day

No one oinformed me ti simultaneously train my left arm. During the height of neoplasticity. Now it's more difficult though Im not goving up. Kep moving your arm with all the range of morions it can. Up down, circular, forad backwards. If or when you slready can move your ower arm back and forth too then your wrist, then imagive very hatd that youre moving your fingrs. I also had a stroke in November 2016 that left me paralyzed on my left side.I was very depressed. I had to learn to walk again and eventually was able to move my arm and fingers again. Lots of therapy and needed rest. I’m still making recovery and continuing to see results. Many things will just come back naturally over time as your nerves will work around the damaged brain area. A lot of your recovery has to do with your own personal determination. No matter how difficult, just push yourself to keep walking. It’s not an easy journey to recovery. Never quit!

      My experience. I had a stroke in 2015. I have needed a brace for my foot. ONLY now I am ready to get rid of the brace. And YES, FINALLY, it looks like the brain has remade the connections and there it is!!! It's becoming automatic. So do NOT give up, keep working (ah, walking every day on a treadmill has been key for me imo) and you might get to this automatic thing.
      All the best, keep working and best regards from Spain :)

    • @HighCountryRambler
      @HighCountryRambler Před rokem

      @@TuacsHomegirl I'm very sorry for this. What I've learned for the past 3 years as a primary caregiver is drive and attitude are one of the biggest barriers in recovering mobility. I had to walk away from a dream career in technology where I was able to travel to literally every vacation destination around the world for my job, to care for someone who has no interest in recovery. It seems looking at these posts and meeting with therapists and Neurologist you get out of recovery what you put in, and it's a VERY tough road. In certain cases it might even be harder on the person doing all the work and pushing against constant roadblocks, watching years peel off the calendar.
      Your not alone, but you seem to have desire and drive, that will likely be the determining factor in your long road to recovery. Folks are still healing 10 years post stroke with gradual progress that might not be noticeable in long periods of time. I do know that doing nothing for recovery, nets nothing.
      Hang in there...

      You can be skinny and have high stress levels and have high blood pressure. I’m young and thin and had a stroke due to an AVM that ruptured in my brain. I ate very healthy and exercised daily. AVM is out of my control. Something you are born with.
