    We live in a timeline where AI Dagoth Ur recites copy pastas to us. Just stop and appreciate the grand and intoxicating innocence of that.

      I like to imagine Dagoth was just offset to our realm of existence. The Neravarine never killed him, after all, How can you kill a god?

    That final _"DUMB...FUCK"_ from Ur really drives home the emotion behind the statement that the original poster probably felt.

    I’m a left winger and even I have to agree with this statement. Like, we really should do SOMETHING to curb all the gun deaths in America. But there’s gotta be a middle ground that addresses the problem without resorting to some 1984 big brother shit.

    • @SomeGuy-gc8zs
      @SomeGuy-gc8zs Před rokem +5

      Pro tip: guns aren't the problem. Other countries also have very high rates of gun ownership and even allow civilians to own machine guns and carry firearms for protection, but have substantially less (almost no) gun violence. It's almost as though countries like Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, and the Czech Republic are somehow fundamentally different from the United States in some way, perhaps at the governmental level, or maybe there's some sort of idiotic conflict absent from their societies that pervades every aspect of American life, or it could just be that mental healthcare is more available and poverty less common.

      *Children at an age they should be innocent get so frequently beaten down, angry depressed, demented, and psychotic by their conditions that they want to murder as many classmates as possible and probably commit suicide too, so they get a gun and go do that.
      Standard Liberal: clearly the gun is the issue.
      No type of gun should be illegal, and neither should drugs. Doing bad things with guns or doing bad things under the influence of drugs is all that should be illegal.

    Right though he be most people are not that smart or brave. So the threat of using such overkill prone weapons is actually effective. You need to drive a people to madness to get the kind of solidarity it takes to make fighting back effective.
    But admittedly that doesn't take much. We humans are teetering on the edge of madness all the time.

    Bad counterargument. Dagoth here acts like being able to control the streets and skies and confining seditionists to their homes and other buildings, plus maybe some forests, isn't a fucking insane advantage to state mobility. Area denial and air superiority are both massive advantages.
    what that argument also fails to acknowledge in invoking insurgent groups as an example is that the insurgent groups that dagoth is using as an example all had fallback countries they could bug out to when they got BTFO'd, such as Pakistan or Syria.
    I'm pro gun because I want to own guns, not because I hold the delusion that holding firearms will make the state play nicer with me.
    We've seen how the state handles civilian ownership of firearms at any rate. the police have accounted for everyone possibly by lobbying for looser citizen rights, minimizing how much they have to do before being allowed to go full on with shooting people, and psychological tricks such as screaming "drop your weapon" AFTER shooting, meanwhile acting like every citizen HAS a gun and Daniel Shaver-ing them when they're in a bad mood, or flashbanging a whole ass infant to death and getting away with it because qualified immunity functions as a cheat code for justice.
    Y'know, maybe they dont even need the tanks. Maybe the tanks are just a bonus. It's not like the whole American populace rose up to commit sedition when Shaver or Floyd got unfairly killed off.

    • @1111Tactical
      @1111Tactical Před rokem +5

      "Area denial and air superiority are both massive advantages."
      As someone who actually studied guerrilla warfare and counter-insurgency professionally, no they fucking aren't for the occupying force. Those are infinitely more useful against conventional forces, they don't do much for an insurgency that hits hard and fast, and dissolves back into the civilian populace before the next attack.
      There were more places the Taliban and Vietcong kept us from having a permanent presence than there were places we could keep them from having a permanent presence.
      When you have an unsupporting populace with large armed portions, you get the occupying force cramped in little FOB's with occasional excursions and logistics confounded by harassing ambushes and IED's. AKA The Second Iraq War, The War In Afghanistan, and The Vietnam Conflict.
      "I'm pro gun because I want to own guns, not because I hold the delusion that holding firearms will make the state play nicer with me."
      Then you actually just have the delusion that you properly understand history.
      Daniel Shaver and George Floyd were fucked up, but they weren't the time for an insurrection.
      However, after George Floyd there were riots with some armed participants and even annexation like CHAZ. Those places were disbanded by their own incompetent leaders not by police crushing them.
