About me: Swiss-Japanese violinist living in New York City. I travel the world sometimes and like to share tips on classical music, the lifestyle that comes with it and more. - Hudba
I love this footage since you really capture the feeling and environment of being at a music festival which I enjoyed doing as a music student. Now, as a composer of original music themes for comics performed on the guitar who trained musically on piano and the viola in secondary and college bands as well as orchestras, I love hearing various instruments to get new ideas for my original music but it was lovely to see your mini-documentary since it is such a great representation of a musician. You're so enthusiastic and welcoming as a player!
Yass! Aspen Music Festival is sooooo much fun. I didn't audition this year but I still remember last year. I remember how fun it was to meet so many people and got to learn from some of the most accomplished people.
You are a natural at presenting Sumina! Lovely balance in your vlogsc and it's so great to hear those snippets of you playing. Thank you so much for posting such great material. 😃😃👍
i really love your vlogs~! it's so interesting seeing behind the scenes to different careers, especially something special like classical music
The vlogs are fantastic! I'm a university student, not a music major, but I'm absolutely in love with my community orchestra and it makes me so happy watching these dress rehearsals knowing how much joy there is for the performers and audience. Bravo!
Sumina. Thank you for all your vlogs I happened upon you and how delightful it is to follow your development. I'm not a musician but I'm so thrilled to get a glimpse into th musicians' world. I am catching up and binge watching all your videos. Hope you will post a complete recital some time. Thanks so much!😘
Hi Sumina, I just wanted to say thank you for all the videos you post. I always hated music, and now I love it because you and Twoset Violin. Your videos are so entertaining, fun and educational, and your playing is absolutely beautiful. I just wish you would upload more because I love your videos so much ❤️
You have inspired me to love classical music 🎼

Hi Sumina! I absolutely love your vlogs, please make more! So interesting and fun!
Vlog more this made my dayyy🤩
Aw, I'm glad! I will try 😋
Wow! Looks like things have really changed since I was a student. I, too, was a fellowship (viola) student from 1996-99 and played in the Festival orchestra my first summer, then the Chamber Symphony the next two summers. I loved going hiking, eating out with fellow students, and meeting amazing soloists and conductors! What orchestra were you in this past summer? What was your favorite guest soloist or conductor? Did you hike to the Maroon Bells (one of my favorite spots)? Yay for Paradise Bakery cookies!!
MY ORCHESTRA PLAYED ALMOST ALL THOSE PIECES THIS YEAR!! 😱 they are all you fun to play!!!
Seeing you and your stand partner play together was very interesting. Both great musicians and both with very different LH positions and pizzicato manner... We find what works according to our physicality and that's interesting to see., thank you!
Always love your vlog!!
This was so much fun! Please post more vlogs about music life.
Using this as a prep for my own Summer there. It’s so exciting!

Did you rent a place on your own or was the accommodation funded by the school?
I was fortunate and very thankful to be given the orchestral fellowship (which covers tuition) as well as a housing stipend (which partly contributes to living situation) so I decided to rent a place off-campus with someone. The campus housing is cool too though - and probably gives a more communal feeling! 🙂
som Slovaak n y is it bad that she can do what she wants to do?
@som Slovaak You should really consider some self examination if you haven't already here 6 months later. Your comment(s) is(are) both petty and cruel. Perhaps what you have thought to be "arrogance" has been someone logically maintaining their personal boundaries around someone new; especially if you openly act as you do here and come across as the colossal jerk that you have managed to in this instance.
@som Slovaak And? If she didnt, someone else would. Why would you knock someone for taking an opportunity available to them
@som Slovaak This is a late response but that is so rude to say. She was given a fellowship and opportunities to rent a place elsewhere, why would she not take it? Not all high level string players are arrogant. Do you not realize that since they are "high level" then they will naturally be given a lot of opportunities because of their success? Sumina was not simply given everything she has. You fail to realize these high level musicians work so incredibly hard to achieve their standard of playing, which obviously results in them being given multiple rewards. If you were given an opportunity to rent an off-campus location as Sumina did I doubt you would decline in attempts to be "humble". And just because she lives off-campus does not mean she looks down on others who do not get the same chances. As mentioned by others, it is her life and her choice. She is not harming anyone. You choosing to believe all high level string players are arrogant just reflects your choice of ignorance and lack of maturity.
How much and what types of chamber opportunities are there at Aspen? I would love to go, but really want to do chamber music as well.
You can either apply as a pre-formed chamber music group or apply as an individual and do a placement test to be chosen into a group with other individuals - if I'm not mistaken! Then you get regular coaching. Chamber music is not required and this summer, I decided to keep it just to orchestra :-)

What is the Spanish theme piece called
España-Chabrier
Can someone tell me the song they practiced at 2:07
Mai Billiot i’m pretty sure it’s the carmen suite :)
I'm jealous
wait... how did she got back to playing in an orchestra? and she is not even concertmaster
I love playing in an orchestra! And it's important to understand the teamwork behind a big musical force. I'm fortunate that I get to gather orchestra experience with all of these incredible musicians 😚
