You get shot and your like “well shit this is the end of the line.” Then they pull you out and you look over and see a random dude who’s not related in any way to the chase getting roughed up and arrested. One of the things I noticed is that the news helicopter camera had some kind of sensor in it that could tell exactly what road it was pointed at in real time.. pretty cool
@@SilverTheFlame I mean, hotwiring that van behind a cop car, with a heli watching over him. That was straight up some gta shit. I do agree with u that he did appear to have no sense of where he was going, still those driving skills were impecable.
Cops aren’t trained to handle crazy. They train on people who fear some sort of authority, so when you meet an actual crazy person they can get away with killing like 15 people or breaking 100s of laws.
Man is actually a protagonist, wtf. Literally no clipping. Obviously a lot of this was thanks to the insane dodging skills of the other drivers. If this went down in here in Florida, he'd have crashed in literally 5 seconds 😭

On the plus side, the owner started a gofund me so he can recoup the cost of his materials and car and got over $120,000. LAPD told him he can't get his car and tools back since it's evidence.
I kept thinking the same thing. Worried about that poor guy losing his work truck and his tools. Not to mention having his house invaded by a crazy man!
That commentator genuinely has a talent for casting. It'd be kinda funny if his career blows up after this. Honestly added so much value to an already nuts chase
When I was a mechanic I had to fix some wiring on a mid 2000s chevy truck (same as the chevy van he stole) and I was shocked how easy it would be to basically hotwire it. Its not like the movies where you touch 2 wires together and run but it was fairly simple if you know what you're doing
@@l3ftie578 I wouldn't use the term scary for loud and sudden. More like surprised or shocked. That's why most people consider games that rely on jumpscares only as not very scary.

I feel sorry for the man who worked his butt off for it, he was so close to stopping that asshole, if it weren't for his wife grabbing him by his shirt collar and pulling him like he was a dog. Glad they got another truck, but I can tell you that man probably won't feel the same about it.
@@Initial_Gopnik Don’t get mad at the wife that guy was crazy driving around almost killing people. She probably was pulling him back because she didn’t want him to get hurt you don’t know what that other guy was capable of
I doubt the man would've been hurt too bad when he had the upper hand, if that nutjob had a gun or was seriously capable of hurting them (which he wasn't, he was unarmed), don't you think he would've pulled whatever he had on them? So that they wouldn't even try to stop him? There was obviously a bit of a struggle in the house as well, before they came out to the driveway. I get the legal aspect, it is California, they would've found a way to make the victim a criminal.
Knowing the chase is an hour and forty minutes long, I just kept wondering “how does he get out of this one?” and he escaped so many times, to the point where I thought he would even get out of that last situation.
3:23 - I never tried hot wiring. But the way I assume it works is. With the key, its basically a switch between turning the engine on and keeping it on. On older cars, most likely these are just three wires connected to the lock cylinder. One supplying power and the key will switch that power to the other two wires. With this in mind, all you have to do is connect the wire with power to one of the other two wires. Modern cars or at least with my car, my key has a chip in it. It'll try to verify the chip before allowing you to turn on the car. I'm assuming, there are a ton of wires that are used to communicate with that chip. It will be nearly impossible to guess which wire to connect at what time.
That guy wouldn’t have been held back when the perpetrator showed up to steal his car. Would’ve been dealt with then and there. Bless our stand your ground laws lol
i remember i was at a sports bar with my parents and my brother during this chase, they played it on the jumbo screen and the whole place tuned in it was crazy to watch live
@Dirty Monkey again though. What can you do without breaking protocol. Besides the good size amount of fuck ups from the cops, they can't exactly gta him
Feel bad for the bystander that got arrested. Similar thing happened to me in Seal beach, didn't get arrested but the police forcefully took my totaled car in for investigation. It was also a chase that ended in a head onto me, shots were fired. I was sent a collection notice for $2000 for storage of that car, another $1000 for towing (to a lot 3 miles away from the crash), then a bit more just to tow it home so they stop charging more for storage. The police told me they cannot do anything about it. Hope this guy will recover quickly.
Damn, that sucks. It's just not fair sometimes, huh? How are you doing now, did insurance pay for the car or did you perhaps get back on your feet with no help from them?
@@netts2315 Doing great, thanks for asking. A month before the crash, I downgraded my insurance to 1-way since i was young, broke, and thinking nothing bad ever happened for all the years I've been driving. Of course the other dude had no insurance, no job either. He was drunk and had 2 kids inside. Figured I didn't want to waste my time going to court because I just started my career. The only thing I'm pissed at now is how the police handled things, especially the one that opened fire into the car from the rear passenger side, he was lucky that he missed both of the kids by mere inches.
Love how the guy in the helicopter was like "i think this is where it ends, i hate to say it" but corrects himself, like NAH you know you were having fun
I'm positive you guys have no clue that police are deciding to back off and not pursue dangerous evasion techniques. Police training is incredibly lack-luster, but vehicle training is a different story. Most departments train in their lots doing maneuvers every month and make it mandatory for every officer to attend and pass tests. Too many people have died due to incompetent driving from police in the past, so it's one of the few things most US police are very well trained in. They absolutely knew his obvious moves, and did the right thing to not push the pursuit to be more dangerous. Just as a source, I did ECU tuning for my city's LEO high-pursuit vehicles for a few years, I got to attend their training seminars on numerous occasions and even got to participate. You'd be surprised that most of the techniques used were avoidance and de-escalation. The PIT-maneuver (TVI) is a last-resort technique for an era before learning that de-escalation works 99% of the time. BSR Inc. that came up with the technique have been sued numerous times over the unsafe used of TVI. Even they have denounced the use of it in the last few years.
So many (young and jobless) people are laughing at this chase while many responsible car owners got fcked especially the truck owner. "dOnT wOrRy, iNsUrAnCe wILL cOv-" STFU. First of all, the pathetic loser of a criminal won't be held liable due to most likely not having insurance and the lax Cali laws. Second, insurance companies are shady af and some may raise monthly premiums just because a subspecies of a human decided to fck up everyone's day.
Yeah that bit in the deadend in the suburb was so weird, do they not have tire spikes they just drop out their door?

@@joshc5613 Absolutely not. This is what de-escalation looks like. Close pursuit is how you get people killed.
