      It's strange hearing "The Sacred War" played at quick march pace. With the modern Russian Victory Day parades, it's used at slow march to bring out the Victory Banner.

      This parade is not about Soviet Union and communism, for the Russians it's about the victory in the Great Patriotic War, as they refer to WW2. This goes beyond the communist period and any ideology ;)

      Not quite the same, though they have tried to preserve the spirit of the ceremony. The defense budget of the Soviet Union, even in the years immediately preceding the fall of the wall was orders of magnitudes greater then that which Russia presently dedicates towards armed forces expenditures, so the spectacle of these parades was far grander. Also, you can tell that there is a genuine sense of pride and ideological conviction in the faces of these noble Soviet soldiers, whereas today its more about pomp and circumstance and pageantry; the silly little drone cameras they use, the fact that the troops are required to smile like idiots as they march past the tomb of Lenin and even the subtle, yet appreciable exclusion of some of the more authentically evocative Soviet marches in the musical repertoire of the combined bands. All of this serves to undermine the solemnity of this auspicious event as well as detract from its historical character.

    • @jeffputz1853
      @jeffputz1853 Před 4 lety +3

      @The Doge-Emperor of Dogekind I suspect that the argument in favor of such an otherwise incongruous and seemingly inappropriate display is one which emphasizes the celebratory nature of the event and accentuates the concomitant joy which the soldiers, airmen and sailors should ostensibly express when reflecting on the victory over the fascist invader. That being said, I too concur with your assessment and as I’ve stated above, I find it to be completely unbecoming of the participants in such a hallowed and time-honored ceremony to be comporting themselves in a manner befitting happy idiots. The glorious and mighty Soviet Union would have had no tolerance for such gaiety and pomposity as these qualities are more representative of the degenerate culture of hedonistic materialism which emanates from the West.

      Thank you for so assiduously contributing to the collective reservoir of Soviet era parade videos. While I always had a healthy ideological aversion for anything even approximating the ethos of Marx, Lenin, Trotsky, et al, I must concede that these displays are far more potent, evocative and inspiring then anything the West was capable of producing at this time. Also, the misconception is that the Soviets were the cause of the degeneration of "traditional" values with their socialist populism, but in reality, the USSR and its puppets were actually the most reactionary bastion of conservationism of the latter part of the 20th Century. Anyways, thanks for the contributions comrade.

      I personally (AND PERSONALLY is the important word) Think that It shows that Russia as change since the fall the union, you can see the complete 180 that Ultranationalism and capitalism has done to eastern Europe.They once paraded in the name of "The People" and "the Workers". Now they parades to celebrate long dead value and long dead golden age (They still hold on the one the old Flags of before the fall in said parade even tho Russia his the opposite of Marxist Now a day).Russian and Slavic are really nostaligic of said era and I think its sad somehow. (Thought the USSR was Really flaw due the Stalinist legacy it had, I still think it brought good and was the best counter power we had to stop the U.S. from doing anything they wanted. I get why slavic, mostly Russian, Miss it)

      2) Cold War weaponry was more aesthetic (the missiles, the tanks, the UAZ) and the fact its ancient today gives it a special touch.
      3) Uniforms (mix of cold war parade dress and WW2 combat dress).
      4) The size of the parade and contingents.
      5) The music (personally the Soviet band executed way better than the military ban of today's Russia).

Pity how Putin has squandered such a great army wasting away the lives of so many of Russia's young men on a fruitless misguided attempt at taking over Ukraine. Hello from a very slow reply. No big fan of the Kremlin but precisely because of WW2 historical revisionism in Ukraine, that the Russophone Ukrainians decided this was enough.
      It was a pity that Ukraine in its eagerness to join the Wes$, that it brought in the worst of the Wes$. The result, the Wes$ only saw Ukraine as a battering ram against Russia.
      Ukraine did not respect itself, that was why the Wes$ did not respect Ukraine.

    Why they were no Victory parades between 1965 and 1985?

    • @c1783c
      @c1783c Před 9 měsíci +1

      Between 1965-85 USSR wasn't in that deeper and deeper socio-economical crisis, marasm and being overwhelmed by excessive, traditionally paranoid military spending , so The Party didn't feel an urgency to distract and hide that fact by cunning tactics of rising up banners heavy of patriotic-historical pomposity.
      They gave a society a false and inflated sens of self-worthiness, suggesting that they don't necessary need to live in a well governed, law abident and socio-economically developing country. All they need to be content of theimselves and their country's current status, should come from superficial vision of a recent, victorious past and having victorious ancestors.
      Putin exactly repeated that deceitful tactic to strengthen the weakening governmental power, when reforms of Russia started to losing up with eternal cleptocracy and too low innovation level.

      Hello there, because the main parade was the Bolshevik revolution/Labor Day or another communist-related event.
      Victory Day was observed and celebrated but not with large scale parades.
      Similar situation with other Allied nations at that time. V-E day and V-J day were celebrated but they did not have the status equivalent of National or Independence day.
      Victory Day became important only after the end of USSR. The replacement National Day never had that special feeling.

      While I see your point, I think you must concede that the Russian Federation is now one of the most reactionary and conservative regimes in the world outside of the Middle East and North Korea. Putin's Russia is a resilient bastion of tradition and a bulwark against the intrusions of western, progressive ideology. Just look at the historical continuity of the Victory Day Parade and how it is celebrated in nearly precisely the same fashion in 2019 as it was over seventy years ago.
