This was a tremendous help, it was perfect. I have this exact piece and it was a first for me to install. The crazy prices that they are charging to replace items, I save $35 doing it myself . Thank you
Thank you! You saved me labor costs to have this done and was super easy to do. I lost my gas cap, by leaving it on the trunk at the gas station, lol. My old one I guess had a tether at one point, but not by the time I purchased it. I bought a new cap and came with the tether, looking for THIS video, I searched how to put on a new gas cap, and came across about 25 different engine related videos and found yours and Got It On! 😊 Thanks a Ton!!
I’ve found that a flat, forked trim removal tool works better than pliers for removing the lanyard. (Someone suggested just pulling on the lanyard to remove it - that is a guaranteed way to break it off).
Any way to just re-attach existing plastic tether ring to the gas cap? Nothing's broken and I don't need a new gas cap---my plastic ring just somehow came off. Is there any way to re-attach it to the gas cap it without breaking it?
You may have to get a new one off eBay. Depending on the type of car you have the plastic tether may have lost its elasticity so it may come off again. Some just use a black string and tie it up to the spots of the tether, works quite well.
@@Komputar Ok thanks. I have an 08 Highlander. And although the cap screws pretty tight, I'm getting a check engine light code P0456 which is something about emissions system leak but others are also saying something about the gas cap so who knows.
If you are driving a Nissan then you will have to replace your oxygen sensors as well. In Nissan the light turns on if your car's CO3 emissions are very high.
The string is not important and it comes optional in some caps. It's only there to make sure that you don't forget to close the gas cap after refilling at the station.
Never use AutoZone or NAPA parts on a Nissan. Nissan is the only car that requires OEM (Japanese) replacement parts if they are to last longer. I got these original OEM Nissan gas cap off eBay from a seller who had the original Nissan purchase receipt.

Almost felt like a How To Basic video just before the chaos breaks forth.
"ORDO AB CHAO"
Thanks this was helpful. Am going to buy one at O Reilly tomorrow
Thank you & good luck!
Thanks a million for this video to help me with installing a locking gas cap on my vehicle. It was very easy for this 75 year old.

Thank you for sharing your story. Glad this video helped so much.
Don’t use pliers!! Just pull on the tether. It pops right out. ✌🏽
Good tip!
On my car the tether was broken off, I had no idea where it even went, so they'd video was tremendously helpful 😊
This video saved me $70 in “labour” 🙏🏾
You are welcome!
Same 😊
So that's how it's done! Thanks for sharing Sonny 🌟👍
You are welcome Pete!
Great video, no talking crap right what people need, get your like Good Samaritan 👍
Crazy how just a loose gas cap can do that . Great video Sonny have a Wonderful weekend man. 👍😀
Yup! it's not only a NISSAN problem but a lot of other cars have similar problem.
Thank you!
It would have been FAR TOO COSTLY for NISSAN to print out a tiny drawing to put in the plastic wrapper!!
I know, right?
Mine looks like yours on the end of the tether, but I accidentally bought one that comes with like 5 plastic screws and I'm like ah man.... wtf 🧐
Wonderful video. Hope you have a great day & weekend!
Thank you!
Good afternoon my friend!!! Just wanted to let you know I shout out your channel this morning!!!!
Thank you for watching and supporting the KOMPUTAR channel Frank.
great unboxing ~
Thank you! 👍😀
😀😀
The tether option I have is a little different. I have a 2009 pilot and it seems to have some type of housing around the end.

I had to improvise and work with whatever tool I had in hand at the time, yes there are specific tools for this job.
Justo lo que andaba buscando. Muchas gracias. 😊
you are welcome bud!
Aw so cool 👍🏼
New here, have a great week. ☺️
Thank you!
The thumb up after putting in the cap holder in the hole. lmao
👍
Very helpful thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks my man
Any time!
Thank you
You're welcome
Good job
Thanks
I've always wondered why there is a hole drilled below the gas cap
It’s a weep hole. If water gets behind the fuel door it has a place to drain out instead of pooling up and eventually rusting
An Open Appeal to Everyone!!
How do these damn caps come off in the first place?

Whats the middle part of the gas cap called. Lost my at a gas station found it but its broken.. from the middle part the cap seems fine
That's called the orifice where the gas cap plugs in to the top of the filler tube leading to the gas tank.
Did light go off after "almost an hour" of car running? Single trip or several?
If you are driving a Nissan then you will have to replace your oxygen sensors as well. In Nissan the light turns on if your car's CO3 emissions are very high.
You could try buying an OBII.... don't get the cheapest.... and clear the light that way. Then see if it comes back.
Mine didn’t come with the attachment string. Is that okay?
The string is not important and it comes optional in some caps. It's only there to make sure that you don't forget to close the gas cap after refilling at the station.
Mine doesn't look like that.
Need to Google- install GM BUICK GAS CAP WITH TETHER. ❤
This video is hilarious
Glad I could make you laugh.
god bless
I don’t have that connection that hole is not on my Avalon’s
For a Toyota Avalon the peg hole should be behind the gas door frame after you open it.
Will this work for any vehicle?
Depends on the type of problem the vehicle has, this vehicle had a loose gas cap.
@@Komputar my jeep compass has the loose cap
Side cutters!
Side? Why not front cutters?

@@la_gallada_ruiz9818 honda's and toyota's can use aftermarket AutoZone & NAPA parts no problem.

Thanks.

I am a school janitor. Why do you ask?
Absolutely useless! 3 minutes of my life I’ll never get back 😂
Go watch half naked girls twerking on TikTok those videos will be more *"educational"* for you.
@@Komputar not a bad shout to be fair 😂😂😂
Note to self; don't buy an Nissan.
The new Nissan Z has a manual transmission.
Very helpful thanks
