Imagine if he had this situation at the start of his career. Mahomes sat, that worked out. Not that Fields could be Mahomes, but sitting a year really helps. Russ has a chance to actually mentor someone here and dispel any notions that he's not a team guy.
As for the trade, Bears fucked up. If you're trading Fields do it sooner so you can at least get a 2nd round pick.
Williams is the best prospect since Luck, or so they say anyway. Well...Luck won a fat zero SBs and retired early. And you're right they could have got a kings ransom for this pick. Shit they did last year. But I won't deny, they built a scary offense for Williams. The pressure is all on him.
I’m still worried about the bears future cause of how terrible managed they’ve been but they made up for a lot of it this offseason as far as acquiring talent. I hope 5 years from now this looks like a great trade for both the bears and the Steelers
Oh, was it the *timing* of the trade? See, _I thought_ it was that they ordered him not to throw to certain receivers on certain plays, making everyone think he was brain-damaged & couldn't read defenses, called o-line plays that allowed Uninhibited Access to Fields that forced him to hold onto the ball making him look inept that dropped his draft status.
When Fields first started staring at open receivers about week 5 of '22, by not taking him into the blue tent & waving off reporters' questions, the Bears made it Very Clear that they were _ordering_ Fields to not throw to certain receivers on some plays. At the time, even the fans knew this because they evolved a meme for it. They said "They had to do this to simplify the offense for him."
It was only after people realized that this made their coaches seem complicit that people changed this meme. But other NFL teams don't have agents scouring the news or watching CZcams videos for evidence that QBs are being set up to fail. If anything, coaches are likely to cover for each other just in case they want no one picking out *their* faults.
In '22 despite having a top-5 WR duu & The Best O-line in the NFL Jalen Hurts passed for all of 5 more TDs than Fields did with Mooney as his #1 receiver, behind _that_ o-line & his own coaches telling him not to pass to what often is the Only Open Receiver on many plays.
He might be élite, only people don't want to see it. Still, wtf is he gonna do on the Steelers? Pickens is better than Mooney, possibly up0 there at D.J. Moore level.
After that, Freiermouth? Then who?
If the Steelers are gonna try & make a run for it, Fields _HAS_ to be their starter. Russ throws behind the line of scrimmage on over 35% of plays now, *before even looking at* his 2nd reads, which is why he's being paid to go away.
But they *_have_** to* get decent receivers. Their o-line & defense was strong enough to carry the previous QB trio & win. They need receivers.
Otherwise, despite Khan's best efforts, this team should trade everything they have for rebuilding draft picks. They have No Depth _anywhere_ except LB.
Bears did him wrong but it could be a blessing for JF that he is now with Steeler nation. I’ll be rooting for the guy 👏🏽💪🏽
