- Never in production... A 1977 Pontiac Can Am with 2+ doors creating the ultimate family driver's experience!
After searching for years, I finally found a mechanically sound car that needed bodywork done and so my dream was becoming a reality!
But then... After 36yrs of living, I finally had my first car accident and I was 110% not at fault! Just the wrong place at the right time I guess as the higher powers clearly had a different plan for this project. The amount of damage quickly changed my overall expectations for the end result. No longer a garage repair, and with the cost of living continuing to grow... Getting it to a factory finish was just out of my "Biden-budget" and so I just made it presentable and together enough to save it for a later time/person.
So yeah, it's not perfect and it's probably not done the way you would do it... But it's a work in progress that just so happens to create a crowd everywhere we go and we absolutely love it!
Thanks for watching!
That is one GORGEOUS ride!!! I've always loved the old big body wagons. My mom had a couple.
It got wounded and you gave it new life. Thank you for a good ending..
You are an absolute madman and I love it! Awesome build man! So cool! Any real Pontiac enthusiast is gonna love the Wag-Am. Right on!
THAT is one cool wagon! I vividly remember the '77 Can Am and wanted my dad to get one, but he had already moved past musclecars into family cars and pickup trucks- I was too young (15) to buy one. I'd love to do something like this with a 5th gen LeMans wagon (no way that Colonnade wagon would fit in my garage!). Hats off to you for such a fine tribute!
Now show us how dedicated you are and make it a two door. It can be done. It wouldn't be cheap and you would have to find the right shop to do it, but think about how awesome it would look. Two door wagons are so cool.
Awesome to see! I love the Can Am's and to see a wagon transformed to one is cool! Like a Hurst or 442 wagon- or even a Buick GNX wagon. My opinion.. you just started and is a great start.... Get a real shaker and switch over to buckets (swivel if you can find) with a console....
I really like your wagon! This video took me back to my high school days. My very first car was a 1974 Le mans safari wagon, brown with the wood trim. She wasn't pretty but she had a 400 with the trailer towing package, including limited slip and a 3.55 or 3.73 gear. For stop light to stop light runs, I was as quick or quicker than the pony cars because they would light up their tires and I could go full throttle off the line with very little wheel spin. And then there was the low cop profile that a brow station wagon has. Over a period about a year my best friend got 4 speeding tickets with his bright red Firebird and driving the same roads at the same speeds I got 0 tickets, in fact I didn't get speeding ticket until after I traded the wagon for a 1977 Grand Prix.
I think I seen this wagon in Muscatine Iowa last week 😊
Looks amazing
@@michaelk.3052 born and raised but on the Illinois side growing up. (We had an Iowa address even being physically in Illinois. 🤣)
Wag-Am will be at the Fruitland Fun Days this Saturday.
Love it!!!!!
From the quad cities here. This is absolutely awesome. Have always wanted to do exactly this. My dad had a 76 grand lemans when I was a kid. Absolutely love it!! Subscribed with both of my channels so I’ll never miss an episode
@@IowaBudgetRCBashers as the video starts, that's me with my dad's Grand Safari. So many great memories with the car but it smelled absolutely horrible inside. We called it the "Skunk" and after a few lil tweaks, she would gobble up 5.0 stangs and Camaros at Cordova dragway and then just continue to roll on by on the interstate with it's tall rear gear. Pretty sure it was a high 14 sec car back then. But unfortunately, this picture in the video is the exact place that the motor let go... Right in front of the house after a day at the races. 🤣
very cool
That thing is badass love it 😎
You did a great job fixing the bodywork. But sounds like the engine needs a little work.
Hey, I know that guy... Car looks great James, Nice work!
@@whitelightning2 thanks Boss! She has certainly gotten more attention than I ever thought was possible.
Daddy's car got ran over by a Reindeer. On our way to Toys For Tots on Christmas Eve. You may not believe in Reindeers but my family and I we do believe.
@@rgbigdog 🤣 right!?
I think more people would say it doesn't have enough power (yet) and that it isn't the amount of tire. lol. Nice job. Sucks about the deer. Now we need a Laguna S3 Wagon and maybe a 442 Vista Cruiser. lol
It gives off that Ecto-1 vibe
Was that Lucore automotive I hear? Love love love the car. I love the big GM cars. Worked at pontiac dealer for years and miss them terribly. I need to find one before i get priced out! Much love from Michigan
Dude turn your phone and film in landscape
@@AintScaredGarage most my videos go to snapperchat. Had I originally planned to do a documentary on the car, I would have been more aware of those things. Really doesn't help that I found out about Insta360 one major flaw with their editing software... Do all the work of making a great video only to have the audio not sync up after downloading. So frustrating but it's part of the process I guess. Learning as I go.
I enjoyed watching your video about the wagon. I was looking at a recent video of Junkyard Digs, and your video was suggested in a lineup of some other current CZcams car channels ( Vice Grip, Pole Barn, and Sleeperdude ) that i like to watch. As you said in the video that you're not finished, maybe you should think about some tint for almost all the windows not only for the look, but a decent repel to the sunshine.
Pretty cool. But it needs the Grand Prix dashboard.
@@mikee2923 trying to locate one for a column shift, bench seat car. I'm not sold on losing a seat and doing buckets just yet. I still want the wagon goodness.
@@jameskoehler689 I know the gauge clusters come up for sale on eBay occasionally. Although you’re correct they’re usually for bucket seat cars. I have seen a few for column shift cars. Another option is the Grand LeMans. I believe they also used the GP dash. Although I can’t recall seeing any entire dashboards come up for sale. Still a cool car. I wasn’t able to make it to the Pontiac Nationals this year. Would’ve been cool to see your creation in person.
Get your MSD Hot box on that thing and it won't backfire and blow your mufflers wide open anymore. That's because you had a fault in your coil and it double loaded a cylinder and then fired it
@@InnercityHillbilly multiple things were wrong, first was the positive terminal wasn't fully seated into plug resulting in absolutely no spark and then timing was a lug off on distributor and I had filled the cylinders with fuel after attempting to get it started before checking plug wires.
Cool. I like it! Are you going to put the slopped CanAm grill and bumper on it? This is truly a proper good looking Pontiac. It has been a real long time since I have seen one of these mid 70’s Pontiac colonnade wagons. Nicely done sir!
@@americanrambler4972 as far as I'm aware, the Can Am nose was just the factory 77 Lemans nose but got the blacked out treatment. I wanted to incorporate some more of the colors on the stripes and ended up doing 2 openings of each color per side. Turned out decent but isn't really seen given it's sunken in so far.
Appreciate the comment as it keeps me motivated to get to my end goal.
@@jameskoehler689 The car I am specifically thinking of the 1973/74 Grand Am models with the slopped front nose, large single round headlights and pointed center nose piece. I think the NACA style hood scoops were a pretty neat touch too.
@@americanrambler4972 yeah, there's a photo going round of that setup in silver. Definitely looks sharp but I had to stay true to the 77 design.
Did someone use that car for a demolition derby ?😮
Two things you can do to it so it will burn rubber. Change the torque converter, and or change the gear in the rear differential. Both of them is going to make you fuel economy go down.
Really awesome ride!! I'm just confused on the reason people are calling it a "Can-Am" wagon when Can-Am is a manufacturer of recreational vehicles and this is a Pontiac with styling references to the Pontiac firebird trans Am , so shouldn't it be a "trans Am" wagon and not a "Can-Am" wagon? or am I missing something 🤷
@@justincoates7798 search a 1977 Pontiac Can Am and it will explain it all. Offered as a Coupe only car with a total of 1300 total made... Sedan or wagon options were never thought of for this particular Model.
Bro the old Can-Am was one cool car I don't think they made a station wagon I guess I'll see you in the video but I just wanted to tell you your glasses look like something Minnie Mouse would wear sorry just letting you know one man to another
@@ocn2u they never made anything past the coupe and only 1377 total produced due to a spoiler mold issue at that. I honestly just wanted something a little bit larger in size for the family vs my 92 cavalier and 77 Trans Am.
@@jameskoehler689 now there are 1378 you've done a great job that looks awesome love the snowflake Wheels thanks for sharing bro
Get to the point instead of quit wasting all the time at the beginning good grief you drew it out too long dude
