- This video is a step by step instruction on how to replace a bathtub drain.
If your tub begins to drain slowly or stops draining completely, it has probably become blocked by something. If chemicals don’t help, you will need to remove the drain and unblock it yourself. And you might need to remove the old drain to replace it with a new one.
Of course, you can call in a professional plumber, like us at Maple Ridge Plumber to do it for you. However, removing a drain is a rather simple task, and you might be able to DIY.
That is why we complied a video for you, showing you exactly how it is done in a step by step tutorial!

Hello I know this video is from 6 years ago, but I wanted to let you know that I just changed out my tub stopper following your instructions! Just wanted to say thank you 😊!!
I'm about change mine this weekend. That's why I'm watching now.
1:52 Good video except for the fact you did not replace the gasket. Yeah, you might get by without it, but why take a chance when it will only take another minute or so to replace.
Your video is amazing
He explained that was for the underside of the tub.

I bought that tool from Amazon 8 bucks, it did not work, cross bars were gone. I tried different tools and decided to get an easy out from Amazon, black friday deal was 14 dollars for set of 8, the biggest one is for drains. With a little work I was able to get the old one out, followed your instructions with the putty and tool you used, perfect. Thank you for the video. Now to tackle the two delta shower valves. I will do that during plumbers hours in case I have a major problem. As it stands now, I have about 130.00 invested in all three jobs. I still will have the tools I bought, I will let the neighbors know I have the tools if they ever need them.
Thank you for your step-by-step video. I was able to replace mine in 10 minutes and saved $357.00. And I am not the most mechanical person.
Thank you again! I even took pics.
quick and easy. no wasted time with backstory or other fluff. great stuff, thanks so much!
This video saved me a ton of money. I spent $10 for the barbell drain removal tool and $19.99 for the bathtub drain. Thank you!
Great video! Simple instructions and guidance. I had no idea on how to replace my bathtub drain. After watching this video, I went to Lowe's and grab the right tools and did the job in under 10 minutes. Thank you!
Thank you for posting such a simple and easy to follow video. A quick trip to the hardware store and literally 5 minutes later pop up tub drain is fixed. I can’t thank you enough!!
Im glad you mentioned the rubber gasket cause I wasn't sure if I needed to replace mine or not. Thank You!
This was so helpful. My first DIY plumber repair was a success thanks to this simple video.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It was exactly what I was looking for 💜
My mother is 90 and lives in another state. Her bathtub drain was leaking water so she called a plumber and he replaced the bathtub drain like you just did and the bill totaled $285.00. Thank you for posting this informative video.
Just what I got quoted. Waiting for the plumber right now. I'm nervous doing it by myself because of the washer. Some say you have to place it under the tub or theres gonna be a leak. He just didnt use it at all. Why???
@@nakkohmt8978 There already is a washer under the tub. That one stays in place, it doesn't get removed. The only reason you'd mess with that is if it was leaking. He was just replacing the drain in the video, there was no leak.
Just switched from the old lever drain stop to the touch toe drain stop. I have never done a drain related job before I always got a plumber and never gave it a second thought. I just saved roughly $100 as I was quoted $140 by a local plumber. Take care of yourselves everybody
Great video!!!
You always have to pressure test the drain for any leaks in the shoe pipe underneath. Never take it for granted that your plumbers putty is holding up. Remember one drip equals a leak
We absolutely hate our toe pop up drain. We want a regular
I can’t believe it truly was as easy as you made it out to be! Thank you so much for this video!
great video. I needed to make sure I didn't need the gasket that came with the new setup.
I needed to remove the lever and plug assembly. It fought a little but it finally came out.
thanks again for taking your time to make the video.
I had a plumber in to replace a couple of sinks and toilets. I asked him about the drain. He said it was a big job as he would have to 'remove the entire bathtub to do it'. I now realize he just didn't want to be bothered. What a BS artist! Thanks for the easy to follow video. You're one of the good guys! ♥🇨🇦
Thanks for the great video... my replacement went very smoothly!
Ahhhh teaching. The gift that keeps on giving. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video!! I am going to try to replace mine like your instructions! This is the best tutorial of any I have watched!
Tried to use the barbell removal tool for the replacement on my drain and had to look for a drain key-type tool instead. Wound up getting a Tub Drain Extractor to take the old drain out. As far as presentation - this was a great video for showing the process of replacing a drain. I had to look up additional help for replacing an older, corroded drain. Perhaps a 2.0 to include some variables you'll run into? Thanks for the video Maple Ridge Plumber!
Dint get wooondid there dijya' ;)? Maple rij gud wurk!👏
Thank you, sir. I had to use a pipe wrench along with the drain wrench to get the old drain out. Worked great.
Made it easy to change the drain and save some money. Literally took 5 mins. Good info, thanks!
Short video, included all materials needed, and less than $50.00 later, task complete!!!! Thank you!!!!!!
This was so helpful and really straight to the point. Thank you!!
Thanks this helped a lot
Weird place to find you lol. Great vid for sure though
This video was super straight forward and to the point. Also, very helpful. Exactly the type of info I was looking for. Thank you for putting this out.
Wow, this is so simple. Thanks so much for the demo and saving me some money. Much appreciated!
Best explanatory video i have found after An hour of CZcams search.
Good job there
I’ve been wanting to do this for years. Thank you so very much.
Just completed this after watching your video. Always wondered what wrench you used to get that drain out. Now I’m an official owner of a barbell tub tool. LOL You saved me time and $. Thank you!
Just followed these directions and was pretty simple. Thank you for the video!
I replaced it! Very easy! Thank you!
thank you sir! You are the real MVP for homeowners everywhere!
So grateful for hot guys who make diy tutorials! I can totally do this 💪
Excellent. Straight to the point. Thank you!
I friggin love this. I am going to do this tomorrow. The instructions you gave are very and straight forward. If all goes well I will be back with my happy dance
Great video. Clear and concise. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Wishing you well.
Just wanted yo say a massive thanks to you for the video. Just finished the job in about 15 minutes and cost me 50 bucks in total.
Thank you so much for this video! I just successfully replaced my drain all by myself!!!
EXCELLENT instructional video! Thank YOU!👍👍
Excellent video - gets right to the point; easy to understand
appreciate the short video
used the barbell tool, worked like a charm
job went smoothly
many thanks!
Straight to the point thank you so much!
Last time I did it exactly as was shown:
the old drain pipe cracked beneath the drain
and it turned out to be great fun
- a pipe replacement project.
My plumber refused to do it for my old bathtub for this reason
Thank you so much. Very practical and informative.
Thank you. I looked at your video to inquire about the washer. Perfect explanation.
Great instructions - Replaced mine today exactly as decscibed
Awesome video. I watched it one time and did both my tub drains. The only hard part was the initial twist off of the drain. But once you get it moving, it should only take you five minutes to complete this job. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for your demo. Now I'm changing mine.
you are a lifesaver. Sho hard for the non-plumber to know what tools are necessary for a simple repair.
Great video...I'll add that I have usually run across the old dried up plumbers puddy from the prior drain. I take my time doing a good job of cleaning that out and making sure there are not chunks in the drain hole.
OMG, my tub hasn't worked for 2 years because of my drian. I had no idea, maybe now I can try to fix this on my own. I'm also in Maple Ridge. THX
Great stuff, direct and to the point.
Thanks so much for such a clear, easy-to-follow vid.
This video is a BEST case scenario and poster should have Cautioned against the many things that can go wrong.
Many will try this and start a plumbing nightmare ...
This based on over 35 yrs in this trade.
well you want to fill us in, or give us a few hints?!
@@seanmcd72 no, he wants us to call him (ie. a plumber) and pay $200 for a 5 minute job.
Perfect walk through. It helped me complete this project.
Thanks a lot man. I did it successfully following the instructions!
That looked incredibly easy! I'm going to give it a go!
This was very helpful. Thank you!
Thank You! Outstanding
Wonderful video. I changed mine following this video in less than 20 minutes.
Thanks for this. Easy to understand!
Thank you! Exactly what I needed.
BEST VIDEO OF SEEN, THANKS
Great video- thank you for the step by step tutorial.
Great video. I wish all drains unscrewed that easily 🫤. Usually by the time the drain is ready to replace, that thing requires major torque to get out.
I was worried when ours went out, but I had it fixed in no time. Thank you from all CZcams warriors.
The one extra tool I needed was a “tub drain extractor” as ours was too corroded to use the wrench to turn it out.
-Hope that helps someone in the future!
Thank you buddy! Was dreading this job. It's actually very easy. God bless!
Just what I needed. Thanks you buddy!
Fantastic. I am handy man but never done this before. Excellent explanation.
For whatever reason our plumber told use we need to remove the whole tub to install this lol I’m just going to do it myself! Thanks for the instruction video
Straight forward bud thank u
Very good video. Now my tub is fixed. Thank you so much.
Nice!! Gotta do mine this week
Very clear , thanks for sharing
Thank you for this!
Thank you for sharing! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you, Sir, for sharing!
Great video! Thanks very much!
Perfect. Thank you
Nice, clear explanation
Thanks so much man! I was able to get it done myself and I am nowhere near a professional. You made it too easy.
Thank you sir! Nice video!
Thank you very great video. If u dont have that tool pliers and wrench work great.
Awesome video, Thanks!
What a great video. Thank you!
I typically avoid any plumbing work that isn't exterior to a wall, such as a shutoff valve, and I am absolute trash at brazing/soldering copper. This task, however, looks like something I can manage. Nice tutorial.
Great video thanks for sharing your knowledge on this plumbing repair
Thank you so much for the video. I was scared to touch it didn't want to break or cause leaks but now I feel confident
Excellent!!! Thanks!
Very good, right to the point.
Super helpful, sir! Thank you so much!! onto my next project!
I really appreciate the help.
perfect. it worked. thank you so much.
Great instructions. I would have messed this project up big time without your video. Thanks!
This was an excellent video. Thank you.
Thank you.
Outstanding,

Great video, Thank you!
Best video by far
Perfect. Thanks man
