  • Official Simple Little Life video of: Tool Time Tuesday - The Air Hammer.
I had a lot of questions from the Forge Vlog #2 video about the tool I used to cut the top of the propane tank off. So, here it is in it's own TTT video.

    About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

Hat's off to all those that made and sent in pics of their own knives. Nice work!
(and thanks for having this segment for us to enjoy them). Inspirational.

Good video and thanks for taking the time to make it. I bought my first air hammer back when I was a kid but then it just sat there collecting dust because I didn't realize how it could be used and also because the tools it came with really weren't for things I worked on and I didn't realize that other ones were available. One day I was helping a mechanic friend do ball joints on his car. The disk was stuck on the hub. Out comes the air hammer with a flat hammer type end on the tool and in 30 seconds the disk comes off. The ball joints were stuck together - air hammer separated them in seconds. Bolt was rusted into a hole - air hammer took it out in seconds. I then realized that with the right tool on it an air hammer is pretty much only limited by your imagination and is now one of my most used tools. BTW- you can get a half way decent air hammer and the tools at HF for about $100 total. It won't be a long barrel Snap On with a chuck but for most people it will be more than all they will ever need

How does an air hammer compare to say a rotary hammer in hammer-only mode? I don't have air but wouldn't mind having some kind of hammer for automotive work. Obv different bits but I think I could grind the tips as needed.

I had seen an air hammer on a mechanic's vlog used to knock out a stud but had never envisioned one being used to cut open a propane tank. Nice!

Would like to hear more about your mig welder:) Im thinking to get one for myself, but smaller and cheaper, not sure what to look for. Maybe some ideas?
Also would be very nice if you could make a video explaining those last finishing touches especially on knife's spine/tang
Im a bit struggling in this area . Often my knives looks fine, but the spine and tang not so much..:/
    Thanks.

I just bought a Harbor Freight air hammer for $ 15 that worked quite well. Oddly, the tool attachment set for the hammer cost $ 60 at HF. Reminds me of computer printer sales where the printer is cheap but the toner is expensive.

Air hammer chucks that retrofit old hammers are available for six bucks. Based on testing on the Torque Test Channel, SnapOn air hammers are way over priced for what you get.

That would be a marvelous idea for a video! I've been using a nicholson 12 inch bastard file. I'm starting to get the hang of it though. Cleaning up the bevel with sand paper and a block goes a long ways in helping!

  • @WastelandForge
    @WastelandForge Před 7 lety +2

I think as you continue to get into forging, it would probable be awesome to start talking about more smiting type of tools eg. (tongs, hammers, anvils, hardy tools.) I understand that you have a limited knowledge on these. Big dog Forge, and Alec Steele are great youtube references on these items. And Big dog sells pretty affordable tongs for beginners. I would start with tongs as you kind of need them with the forge, and hammers can be bought and modified pretty easily for forging purposes.

I Google video about this tool cuzsaw in my email circilar sent, for I am signed up with rhem, but I have not been able to go in over a year almost. I wish you had the link for the knife on here instead. Please do so from now on, cuz I don't have time to email CZcams folks or anyone. I hate when they do that. Simple little life, Jeremy, On your forge build why did you not leave the cut end cut and put a hinge on it . Just wondering on account that when you need to reline your forge you will need to cut it again in order to strip it and reline it. Do you plan on reaching forge welding temps? If so you may need to add another burner. Fyi if your propane tank starts to freeze up just put it is a barrel or a container of water. I rather like your videos and appreciate all of your content If there is anything I can help with feel free to contact me. By the way I commented on a great little power hammer that would not take up a lot of space in your shop it could be stored under a bench if need be. the video is on a you tube channel I watch called Christ centered ironworks the title of the video is hardy hammer. He sells blueprints for it and it looks easy enough to modify for a heavier hammer and probably not even need an anvil to mount it on. I suggest it because you are very good at fabricating and I am confident that this tool will be an amazing addition for your beginning into the art of blacksmithing/bladesmithing. As always great video I am excited for you to start forging blades. You will wonder why you didn't do this earlier. Sincerely, Martin Moldovan at M/S Blacksmithing and Blades USA

$620 for an air hammer, and a few bits.. You could but ten to fifteen setups at hf for that price..
There should be no question as to why so many American companies are going under..
That's a well crafted beautiful tool for sure, but the price just can't be justified for their products
