My question is how do they know that they need salt in the 1st place? Crazy to learn how evolution must've played a part in this as earlier these type of goats might be dying and then suddenly some goat catches sniff of some salt and they survive. Hence everyone starts doing the same. Do they even have reasoning and thinking capabilities like that?

It's the same with all animals.. how do they know what to eat ? Cats are carnivores but how do they know to only eat meat and not eat anything else, like vegetables like an omnivore? Their instincts, their appetite, and their nose.. tell them.
Animals are VERY Much IN their bodies; they don't need anyone to explain calories, carbs, fats, proteins, and vitamins; their bodies crave what it needs, and their noses 🐽 are very highly developed and the animals just have to listen to the nose; it always knows 👃🏽

Always listen to your body's cravings and only eat when you're hungry (makes it a lot easier to "hear" what your body is trying to tell you it wants), and you will a) enjoy eating a lot more and b) feel much more satisfied from eating (because you're always giving it what it really needs/wants). It's a great thing to practice!

They're not the only ones. We have Mountain Goats here in the US (Rocky Mtn Goats) that are able to scale the sides of mountains that are pretty much pure vertical. Watching the babies fearlessly run up and down like it's a hillside...wow

I can't imagine how good they really are at climbing. If they make one single mistake, their life would basically be over, there's probably no chance of recovery ever, so they probably know exactly how to do it and evolved in that direction. Really impressive

I always thought their adaptation for being great steep mountain climbers is to either escape predators who can’t climb as high as them on such steep mountains, and to have access to any ice or snow high up in the mountain that they would lick and ultimately melt the ice or snow into water for them to quench their thirst. I did not realize it was salt from dams that the beautiful Ibex were after.
It’s weird but how wonder what do their place were be since animals can evolve depend on the place

They didn’t adapt to dams though humans haven’t been building dams long enough for them to have adapted to them. Your first thought is the correct one the dam thing is just a coincidental bonus.

Goats are much more interesting than I thought as a kid. They also have shock absorbing necks that allow them to ram stuff much harder and more times than other animals. Pretty sure if they went head to head (as in literally) with a bull they'd be more likely to stay conscious. Oh and when the graze their eyes rotate to always stay hotizontal. If you've seen goat eyes (and most herbivores) you know they have an elongated slit for wider field of vision and the rotation allows them to stay alert even when they should otherwise be in a dangerous position. They need selenium. Mountain goats love road salt because it's got a high selenium content. The goats that graze by the freeway have been found to be far healthier if they dont get hit by a car.

The "higher you climb the further the fall" has never been more of an apt statement in this case and it won't be just a bruised ego to deal with it'll most likely be a broken neck and off to a local incinerator to be disposed of.
