Playing Guitar Direct To PA - No Amp Method

- I thought I'd stick together a quick video to show you how simple it can be to play gigs with no amp, direct into the PA (mixer). In my case I route my guitar to FOH speakers and monitors. You'd never know there wasn't an amp on stage, and best of all you won't need to lug it around. This is not for everyone, but seems to work well enough for me.

95% of the stuff I record is done without an amplifier. I experimented with having the stereo out of my Vox amp fed into the audio interface, but the signal is much quieter with less before the audio interface. The signal out of the audio interface from Amplitube software can be sent to "front-of-house" easily. Using the midi signals in Amplitube, I can turn software effects on or off or reduce/increase them using a midi pedal for wah, volume and pitch controls.
Great thank you

Hi Billy. I just ordered the DLX because I saw your cool video. I just wanted to ask if the TRS 3.5 cable used to connect the footswitch to the Simplifier is also included. Thanks.
Yes it does! Enjoy.
Was curious if you have any tips on or (do's & donts) for pedals to run before the Simplifier and what to run in the fx loop. Im goign ampless to into just my powered Pa speakers. I typically run a CS-3, Chorus, Blues Driver, el capistan delay, Kangra Fuzz, Reverb and vibrato and a few others, but never sure what to run where when it comes to playing ampless with all my pedals along with the Simplifier. Im playing mainly a Fender strat. Also do you ever play acoustic through a setup like this? Thanks!
I treat the simplifier dlx as an amp with fx loop, and all the regular do's and don'ts that apply to a regular amp. There are some great videos out there regarding pedals apply. I mostly find less is more when it comes to pedals and keep gain type pedals before the amp and reverb, delay, chorus in the fx loop. I have tried this setup with my acoustic and it works well, but to save time I use a separate channel and preamp for my acoustic.
I use the Simplifier with my combo, connect it through the FX Loop Return, but I’m not sure if it’s correct to use the Bypass or the cabinet function
What do you use for at home playing for playback? (Headphones, frfr speaker? )
Same thing I use live, pedal board -> Zoom L20-R mixer -> Pair of Alto TS312 speakers. I like doing that because I am setting up my sound on the system it will be played on.
What settings are you using on Humboldt. What amp and what gain setting clean crunch or lead?
I'll put a short video up with just my DSM settings tonight.
Hi there!
I am about getting one of these Simplifier DLX...
How is your experience like with this pedal?
How you use it on stage with high volume?
Is it very noisy? I´ve read some comment on the web about this piece of equipment being very noisy and not very reliable....
Thanks a lot!
I don't have any troubles at high volume, sounds exactly the same! Just like it's supposed to. If you have the preamp cranked, you might want to look into a noise gate. I've not had any need for a noise gate.
Good luck!
Hi, my church wants me to play direct into the PA system, my amp does not sound good through the PA. Do you know what is the best setup i should choose?
Well 'best' is subjective for sure. It depends how much you want to spend, and what you really need. If you're playing simple 'Clean' guitar you might get away with just a DI and some reverb from the mixer. If you have deeper needs like multi-channel, multi-gain, fx etc then you probably want something like the simplifer, Helix, AxeFx, or Kemper. Happy to chime in if you have more specifics.
@@TheRealBillyKane never heard of Simplifer, ty.
I plan to buy a Mooer GE200 processor which features many amp emulators. I want to play along some backing track and sometimes may sing along. Would I be better of using this Mooer GE200 with a guitar amp or a compact PA system (such as the Behringer K900FX Ultratone 90W 3-Channel PA System & Keyboard Amplifier)? I guess a guitar amp will not create much value since there are already amp emulators? Thanks.
Either way will work. It depends how much equipment you want. Direct into a PA will give you the backtrack and vocals channels to mix with your guitar.
@@TheRealBillyKane Thanks! I think I will get the PA then.
I plug mg30 in to line aray pa and sounds terrible. But threw the valve amp is great. Anyone with ideas
so, mg30 -> mixer -> speakers or amp -> mic -> mixer - speakers. Is that what you're doing for both tests?
Can I run a multi-fx pedal into a mixer snd out through the PAs?
The short answer is that you can run anything you want that sends a signal to the mixer. I don't know which multi-fx you're referring to, but if it has amp/cabinet emulation it will probably be fine.
@@TheRealBillyKane thank you!
I am using a Mooer 250 and we have the XR-18 as the mixer. I did try using via the high-impedance channel but the sound wasn’t great and would cut off and hard to control volume using the volume pedal. Wondering if I should try a normal channel since the Mooer has a built-in frequency stabiliser (not sure what the technical term actually is).
Hmmm i think at least 2 of those pedals have op amps, or some kind of rudimentary amp circuit if not an outright audio amp, lol. Sorry
when I say 'no amp' , I mean not lugging a cabinet and speaker around. The DSM on my board is a zero watt amp
What amplifier ? I dont see any amplifer
The only amp like thing is the DSM Simplifier DLX. That part I treat just like an amp.
