    Good advise really, unless you rinse after every surf and never dry in the sun liquid seals break down fast not to mention a little less flexible. Dakine Mission suits are DOUBLE glued and TRIPPLE blind stitched with regular tape inside in the core areas with critical points reinforces... prob one of the most durable, warm, well thought out suits out there. The insulation they use is pretty amazing too, happy I gave them a shot they are pretty new in the suit game but really entered strong. Their top of the line are liquid taped and imho worse than their middle range Mission suits for this reason, gice me double glued tripple blind stitched any day

      hi mate, yep agree. most seals like that become too fragile to last long with the current technology unfortunately. glad you've found a wetty you're happy with atm, thanks for the heads up on them and for the positive input! enjoy, cheers -KS

    I've found that if you dry it in sunlight, it cracks way faster than if you do it in the shade. My needessentials after 2 years it is still without any cracks. One O'Neil I have is falling apart.
    That tape from a rip curl top of the range is falling apart after 2 years also. Another Xcel I had with seals, not liquid taped, after 10 years still glued. Depends on brands. Also some of the more eco-friendly glues don't last as long as the nasty ones, so instead of getting a nasty glue that lasts 10 years, you get an eco-friendly that lasts 5. Not sure what's worse for the environment.

      for sure mate, can definitely depend on level of care and brand. and yes, you make some good points re: eco vs synthetic glues! thanks for the constructive and useful input, cheers -KS

    Spot on. I’ve had so many of these seams break down and drive me crazy. They either leak or cause rashes inside. It’s been around for some time now...you’d think they’d improve the tech. I just had one break down within that 2-3 month range, and the manufacturer is sending a replacement. Definitely ordered one without the liquid tape.

      yeah mate i hear you! it's a shame because they are so warm when the seals actually work. good point about a rash from the broken parts in the seal too, i should've mentioned that in the video! cheers -KS

    I have a couple Quiksilver suits with the external liquid seal. They lasted almost 3 years before the liquid seal started to crack and flake off. I ended up repairing the seal with Plasti Dip applied with a syringe. The repair worked pretty well and I should get another season out of it.

      nice one mate! that's some great mileage from those seals. i've noticed some brands last longer than others, you did well with the Quiksilver seals. great job on repairing the seals yourself and keeping your suits alive and out of landfill! legend. thanks for the positive input -KS

    i had a lot of wetsuit with this tech, like billabong , what kill the seal is mostly sun you have to be extra carefull, usualy mine start cracking after 1 year sometime 2.

    • @kookshed
      @kookshed  Před 2 lety

      ah yes, sun cracks those seals really easy after a while. even NOT using them can crack them if they go brittle from storage. let's hope they get better hey -KS

    I've got a 3/2 and a 4/3 with liquid seals. Only lasted 2 seasons before the seals started breaking down. But they keep you warm

    The liquid seal on the o’neill wetsuits i have seem to last a long time. I never had any issues. Some of them are more then two years old. All spycho techs.

      hey mate, that's great to hear you're getting good mileage out of them! some guys swear by the Oneill quality for sure. i'm sure there's other examples out there of these seams going the distance as well, but just keep seeing them blowout on new suits etc. and when there's other good sealing options available i won't risk it anymore until they get more reliable. thanks heaps for the positive feedback from the other perspective! good to know. cheers -KS

      Nice break down. I had a mid range O'Neil go for ages with this black liquid tape stuff. It's great. Maybe there's some quality difference in liquid seal. Rinse fresh water every time (if you can't rinse bundle it up to keep it wet). As this fella says dry shade and don't leave suit lying in the sun. Nice vid.

    How best to keep a suit alive where the liquid seal has broken down? Is it worth applying aqua seal, neoprene cement or some other product? Thanks for the video.

    • @kookshed
      @kookshed  Před rokem

      not 100% sure mate, i've never tried to repair one. A strong, durable flexible product like Sikaflex might work if applied properly and the damaged area is not too large i guess. Make sure whatever you use won't perish or peel off and end up in the ocean though. Let us know how you go if you find a good solution though! Good luck -KS
