  • The exhibition “Brother and Sister” at Hauser & Wirth Zürich presents new works by the Hungarian-born, New York-based artist Rita Ackermann. Ackermann's new paintings draw from personal subject matters. On view are examples of the artist's signature Chalkboard paintings; a new series of her recent Papi Palette Paintings, in which enlarged photo reproductions of dust jackets are utilized as surface; and - appropriate for the season - a series of her Brother Paintings that depict a boy skiing, whose figure is abstracted through a twilight snowstorm.

I'm sorry but this just is not that good, inventive or inspiring.
I dont see how this type of work gets into a major gallery..
Not being a hater but there are only one or two pieces that one could say aren't mediocre. The chalkboard piece is very nice.

I think with galleries it's more about marketing and what will make money. Some of these works show individual self expression, like the orange faded figure and the white faded shadow painting like under ice, revealing feelings in paint by the artist, but the rest do seem mediocre, unidentifiable from any particular artist. Work should have an individual recognisable style, it's the artist's self expression and individual creativity in visual form! When art looks like so many other artists' work, it loses credibility.
