  • In today's video we will begin another portrait painting! I decided to continue to use the alla prima approach for it's freedom and spontaneity. The entire painting has been filmed and more of the post-it notes with your questions/suggestions will be featured!

    I have been watching your videos for some weeks now. I have picked up quite a few hints and tips on portrait painting, but the thing I’ve found most valuable is the use of colour temperature in the skin tones. It’s made a fantastic difference to my work. So thank you 👍😊

    Your video are amazing, brush stroke by brush stroke , I see the development of the portrait. Now I don't get so freaked out at my ugly stage, I now see it as the building foundation of what eventually becomes my masterpiece. I emailed you my progress. I hope you got it. Thank you Yupari for your time and efforts!

    I love how you show us All your brush strokes telling us what and why you’re making those decisions! It’s so very helpful especially for us older want to be portrait artists, so thank you!!! You’re doing a great job and I among many appreciate how you teach. Let the bullies have their say, they are just insecure and jealous, it’s sad! You’re right to ignore them, you are sooo good!! Those thousand dollar sales are coming!!! Blessings 🎨

    Another fantastic video, Yupari. I love this approach to art. Way less stress and pressure when using shapes and mass vs strictly lines. It's definitely helped me obtain a likeness much easier. - Jeff

    Nice to catch up Mr Y. Can’t believe it’s Wednesday already. Gulp!
    Like the Grey ground colour. I agree, good to bounce between different techniques and styles.
    Started a new project today. Miniature bust of Vice Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson today.
    I was exploring Turner palettes but sticking with Classical. More dynamic I think 🤔.
    Have a good week 👋
    Hugh.

    Hi Yupari thanks for answering my question about using alizerin crimson / cadmium red . I was told that the cheeks nose and lips are more red than the rest of the face .

    Thank you for another fantastic tutorial! I really like using this method but I do it backwards. Lol. I started doing the features first because I originally did it this way but couldn't get the eyes or nose right and I spent all that time getting it to look good up to that point and I got so frustrated.

    This is a great video thank you so much. I wonder about your brush management which we don't see a lot of. Are you wiping and reusing the same brush a lot "off screen", replacing the brushes or working with several brushes per portrait. Thanks again.

    Thank you for sharing this technique. It´s great!
    For me, as a beginner, it's a big challenge to start painting a portrait without drawing.
    Of course, I would also like to master this technique too, but what do you think? Can I start to develop it right now or should I practise drawing the structure first?

    • @WatchJeffArt
      @WatchJeffArt Před 5 lety

      Antonio Pontes I think you definitely can start practicing this technique right now. Like you, I used to always draw outlines first, but like Yupari said, this way (using shapes and mass) is way more fun and rewarding. If it helps, check out the video I just uploaded on my own channel. I'm a charcoal portrait artist, and I share some advice on this very same technique. Yupari is the master at it and you definitely should listen to what he says. I've learned a lot from him in my own drawings. - Jeff
