Again, thanks for the great tips! Some of the tips are so simple too but HUGELY helpful! I've never even thought about just flipping the model for the other eye!!
Most Excellent Tutorial on painting eyes that I can remember. Very Very good. Additionally, your teaching and illustration skills are superb. Would love to see more of your vids.
thank you!!! what a fantastic lesson it rocked!! i hope to visit your fun-tastic store soon i have been working on a line of custom 1-16 scale figures based on the 60"s war films and your lessons have been priceless- thank you greatly Raymond
This was amazing¡ Great production, the camera was at the perfect spot, i was able to see everything and never out of focus; also the white board was very helpful along with your explanation. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this video on painting eyes. I received a did it yourself figure sculpture for Chrismtas, and even though I an crafty, I don't have confidence in painting the eyes. This video really had helped so thank you so much.
Very good presentation! Had i been working on a bust this size, i would have considered drilling out the iris area and inserted a pair of round balls for added 3D effect. i came across some small "glass balls" in a bookstore. They came in a variety of almost equal size`s, around 1-2 mm (pack consisted of several hundred balls) i say this because to my knowledge the anatomy/profile of an eye is somewhat bulged/conical. BTW in addition to the pupil and the iris, the white area is called sclera.
Hi. Thanks. Eyes have always been a hassle for me. Have loads of busts, but not tried them because of 'Eye painting' phobia. Your tutorial has explained well. Ready to go with my first bust.
Excellent Dave. On your next video could you possibly finish painting the whole face? And maybe do one on painting highlights and shadows on clothing with acrylic paint. Those close up shots are great. =)
thanks. after watching about 100 tutorials, some get overly complicated and...frankly, this one seemed to really help. I'm not doing figures, rather 1/4 scale resin full dolls, but this did help when I got stuck. I either sink or swim it seems.
i really like the videos you do, i paint eyes different i paint the eye 100% hull red vallejo then i go in and cover most of the hull red with a light grey i just leave hull red around the extreme edges of the eye lids. then i paint the black spot, then i go in with a piece of wire and very easliy you can scrape the layers of black/ light grey and hull red away from the centre of the big black dot. then i go in with the desired iris colour then the pupil white flash light gloss varnish done
Thank you for the tutorial. One thing that would have made it better would have been to have an extreme closeup of the head after each step to show in more detail what was done. Still, this is fantastic and has been very, very helpful to me. ♥
The way I do it, is I first paint the eye socket black, then 2/3 layers of bone colour - leaving a black edge around the eye, like they're wearing make-up. This makes the eye more defined and stand out more. Then I paint the pupil, basically the same way you did here. I only really paint smaller figures, so I just leave it at that. I paint the rest of the face next, 'cause it's easier than painting the whole face then doing the eyes after.
Looks very realistic he makes it look so easy eyes and flesh tone don't work with me but I have only been painting figures for a couple of months think I will stick to my armour 1/35scale
Saludos desde argentina! Gracias maestro use esta tecnica para pintar una escultura case de depredador y me resulto perfecto. Gracias y sube mas videos pleaseee

Thank you very much, glad to see these vids from you guys, I have been a fan since February FSM magazine of 1994! YIKES HAS IT BEEN THAT LONG AGO? LOL
Can I use clear fingernail polish to give the eyes a glossy look?
I love the idea of flipping the figure upside down for the right eye which is what I always struggle with...
This is genius.
Would this work on the bandai figure rise standard wargreymon model kit? (Not the Amplified)
Looks very realistic he makes it look so easy eyes and flesh tone don't work with me but I have only been painting figures for a couple of months think I will stick to my armour 1/35scale
