We decided to remove some of the comments we received. In all honesty we didn't want to do this because we value your opinions and we think that criticism is what makes you grow as an artist. Unfortunately, not all comments were polite and constructive, and we will not tolerate insults and blatant offenses. Our director will only answer real and useful critiques and from now on we'll remove the rest.
Thanks for both compliments constructive criticism and support.

Sempre!
Grazie
for english audience... @Angelo Trozzo what we are looking for is constructive criticism. Always! Say: The actors are quite bad in all honesty I'm sorry but I don't find it a constructive criticism. When you analyze a job, you do it in many ways. What I can tell you is that if you didn't like the short film, that's fine, I respect your opinion but I don't respect it if you say the actors are quite. They received awards too, and if a jury of professionals gave them an award, it means they did a great job.
For what we wrote above, your colleague has already answered you. We have received rather heavy insults therefore, we believe that they do not deserve an answer or a space above. I'm sure you will understand. Thanks

I wasn't going to comment until I saw the comments. For the budget you had you did an amazing job. You know no matter how hard you try there's always people who think it's funny to leave vile comments just because it makes them feel like they're witty or clever. Don't let them get to you and don't ever give up. You've already achieved far more than they probably ever will.

    @AnthonyMiyazaki Před 3 lety +4

One of the most difficult challenges of creating a truly successful science fiction story/book/film is to both entertain and impress the science fiction audiences. Non sci-fi audiences may be more easily impressed with the drama behind or within the story, but sci-fi audiences have learned that they can indeed have it all -- the drama, the social commentary (for those stories that include it), the technical sensibility, the futurism, etc. The risk of placing a story in a science fiction genre is that it will not hold up to the standards of that particular set of audiences. For example, while it makes sense that for cinematic purposes, it was important to see Karen's eyes, for sensible technical purposes, it would not make sense to be in a place with dust storms without eye protection. Finding a technical way around this (e.g., a 3-second scene with Karen inserting special contacts and with David reminding her to do so and explaining their purpose) would appease the technical audiences. More important, however, is the storytelling. There is a desire in short films to "not tell the whole story," which is fine and at times admirable. But sufficient background and world-building is often necessary in science fiction. Finally, allow futuristic humans to live up to their time periods. The "it's not fair" pouting that Karen does near the end seems out of character for an explorer such as herself.
Overall, nice work with the cinematography, special effects, editing, and music. The story and storytelling could/should be improved, along with some dialogue that allows Karen to be even stronger to represent the strong figure that she seems to be. I'll be interested to see what you do next.

well that's for sure, it is _mandatory_ she can't come out of this alive. But that means that it far more important to shows that happens out of a real necessity, with a strong narrative motivation without plot holes. it is highly unclear why she cannot just signal the plant position and run home, it is unclear how far she was from the pod, so her death appears forced out of plot advancing, rather than epic.

I wont lie these flash back movies provide little for the depth of building plot and emotional bonds. Build the scene first, get us captive and then stark contrast us with the reality their after. leave us on the edge of an emotional end with somebody who can purvey emotion with their eyes or whole face without some mask to wear. Then have us ponder our own meaning when a saddened but beautiful ending comes in the form of a deep tollful sacrifice

Despite this tourists attempt to uproot one of the few plants on this planet, and dying in the process, it appears nature still won out and flourished. The message here is that tourists need to observe safety protocols and boundaries, avoiding interaction with plants and animals in nature. Preserve, don't pollute.

I thought the production values were great for a limited budget. It was the storyline flaws that baffled me.
If the subject location was known, then why did she land 20 miles away from it? If you introduced a navigational malfunction, that might explain why she fell so short of the target. Another flaw in logic was why she felt compelled to sacrifice her oxygen to sustain a plant that was previously thriving in the hostile environment.

When I find a video where there's no comment section, I pass it by. If all I can say is "Like" or "Dislike," that is a one-way street, and not a conversation via comment. So, I leave with "No Comment" on the video. This one is interesting, since it's a salute to explorers/immigrants, who have risked everything. Toxic plants took/take their toll on visitors, if unfavorable local weather conditions don't do them in first. The fate of the plant biologist reminds me of an SF story of a trio of marooned astronauts, who died either to keep the mission going or as resources dwindlled. The last one standing, with air running out, discovers that the remains of the two previous explorers had "made the planet bloom," and his remains would complete their accidental, low end process of "Terraforming."

What I gathered from this is that by extracting the plant she removed it from a hostile environment and even though she didn't get it to the extraction point her body provided vital nutrients for the plant to florist and propagate. By the time the next convoy arrived it had already spread drastically across the landscape.

Fantastic film! I'm a big fan of non-English sci-fi, especially when it's this good. I like a future where people are still themselves, and everybody hasn't become American. (By the way, I glanced at a few of the other comments, and something to consider is that even terrestrial plants breathe O2 as well as CO2; they cycle from one to the other. As for fluorescent blue gramineae from the future - who knows what they might live on.)

As very small studio you made a film that had meaning, a character you could feel for, and a message to save our world from the damage we humankind has caused. You should be very happy with the film you made and the accolades of your peers. The awards your film have received and the overwhelming majority comments is proof enough! Great Job!

i liked the movie but as so many pointed out, it was not as fleshed out as some people wanted it to be, meaning sometimes people need a lot of explanation. I liked the twist at the end where you show a shot of the moon and ruined buildings and I got the fact they were trying to restart earths biosphere. One small critique but its a big one, Don't cover your star actor face with a mask it does not let the actor connect with the audience. A clear helmet of some kind would have allowed her to show more of her emotional struggle. enough said please continue to make great films!

If this is the best you can do, congratulations. It is one of the best short SciFi films I have seen. The script, performance, dialogues, and special effects are all quite good. I don't see any budget limitations that may have affected the movie. However, there are some things that weren't quite clear. E.g. how can they fix the whole climate of the world in just 25 years? how can the main character walk for 10 minutes without oxygen? how and why does a new species of genetically engineered plant suddenly appear on Earth when the whole of humanity lives in space? etc.

The story kinda answers that partially itself? The father and daughter were scientists working on a way to save Earth, so it is implied in a subtle manner that the same people would be the ones that "fixes" the Earth. The atmosphere could also have been fixed due to the sheer amount of those plants being planted, since what we know or expect of nature, has always been shown just how adaptable and surprising nature can be, when given the option to be so. Like for example, plants growing in places you would never expect them to. :/
