  • If you want to know how to play overseas pro basketball but don't know where to get started, you are definitely not alone.
In this simple 5-step plan I'll show you how me and countless other players have earned professional basketball contracts.
    We cover topics like:
(1.) Important basketball passports to increase playing options
(2.) How to create a basketball highlight video
(3.) How to contact coaches, basketball agents and current overseas pro basketball players
(4.) How to know good from bad overseas basketball combines
(5.) How to stick to the 5-step plan
This guide is something I would have done anything for as a college player starting out in professional basketball.
I had to figure all this out the hard way so I want to help save time for other players who may be starting out.
    🕑Time stamps 🕑:
    0:17 - Get Your Passport
3:21 - Prepare your Film (Highlights, Full Game, Snippets)
    6:10 - Contacting Teams
    8:31 - Combines/Academies
    11:26 - Stick with it!
My mission is to help players achieve their dreams of overseas basketball. I've helped players get signed in all seven continents ranging from those with only high school experience to NCAA athletes.

I got you my guy. I emailed this overseas basketball agent and he respond really fast. His email is stanm55@comcast.com, and also you can look for agents if you search up FIBA basketball agents. If you have good film and good stats you can definitely go pro

    •  Před 3 lety +26

@@Dylan_Lino Problem is he mentioned he played in high school - not college. That makes me believe he has a HUGE gap in his resume.
If that's the case, no agent will consider him. Not being rude but this whole channel is about transparency and honesty in how overseas basketball works.
The thing he needs right now is game film and experience under his belt. Maybe an ABA team, good exposure camp, local pro league (lots in the States) etc.

    •  Před 3 lety

Unfortunately the Honduran basketball federation is in the middle of a big mess both financially and logistically.
There is a domestic league there but it is not considered professional as few players get paid.
You could try and connect with a team there for the Central American Club Championships though (known as COCABA).

I’m 15 years old right now as a freshman in HS that started on JV for most of the year and I’m looking to play Varsity next year and confident that I will, I’ve seen major improvements in my game as a whole and have the body for basketball being as though I’m, 6’2/150 at 15 prior to any lifting.
I’m also wondering about the Overseas contracts and the pay, because I’m not too sold on going to college if I can become a pro and get paid a decent amount of money, unless I can get a big D1 school to recruit me.
If I can get a contract that will pay a good amount of money for me to play I’d like to maybe get into contact with coaches early.

    •  Před 3 lety +4

Although it takes longer, college will actually increase your stock as a pro 10x.
If you try to go straight out of high school then you better be highly recruited or an athletic freak - in either case you'd be fielding D1 offers anyway.
Nothing prepares you better for the pros then the 4-5 of development/maturity process that you have in the college system in North American basketball.

It could be a lot of factors:
      - Quality of film
      - Quality of competition
      - Basketball resume
      - Communication skills in email
      - Professionalism
      - VISA difficulties
      - Messaging incompatible leagues/teams
Try to think of where your competitive advantage and most marketable skills are and then double-down on that market.

Good starting point would be to get onto Eurobasket and look at all the clubs in EBA (4th division). Find their social medias, message them and tell them you are currently located in Barcelona.
You will be at a huge advantage at that point since you could go for various in-person tryouts. Barcelona also has multiple teams located within the region.

Im playing in a adult league to get some film to send off, when should I get an agent ? Before or after this coming up season ? Also another question, a friend of the family I grew up watching played for the university of Oklahoma, went undrafted, and played overseas. Even if he doesn’t play anymore, would it still be great to have him as a reference ?

    •  Před 2 lety +1

Unfortunately no agent will sign you with film from mens leagues.
You’ll have to get better film in better competitions. The ABA, TBL are good starting points for many Americans.
Does that person still have active connections overseas? Can they vouch for you?
If they can, then pick their brain and see what’s up.

    •  Před rokem

How tall are your parents and grandparents at their peak (25-30 years old)? That could give you some indication as to how tall you will be when you are an adult. If you are 5'6 at 16-years old, I would assume you will keep on growing.
In short, yes I've seen plenty of smaller players play pro but it will be more difficult. At that height you have to be an absolute knock-down shot and be very skilled (floaters, in-between game etc.) to counter the bigger players.
My advice would be to not worry about your height or any of that stuff. You can't control that but you can control how much you're putting in to improve everyday.
Focus on that and let the chips fall where they may.

I meant to say a financial investment on the player's part.
The best case scenario is obviously we, as the players, don't have to spend any money to get a contract or get our careers started (combines, academies etc.) but sometimes that's not a reality for some players and they'll have to invest (i.e. spend money) on a combine to get noticed.

If i want to get into B League tryouts ( japan ) as a foreigner, do i still need the japan passport or what ?

    •  Před 5 měsíci

If you're a foreigner then you it doesn't matter your passport - you will be counted as a foreigner all the same. You could be Canadian, Bolivian, American - you are a foreigner.
The lone exception to that are Southeast Asian players (Philippines, South Korea) who are able to occupy the Asian Import spot.

Let’s say I have a second passport but it’s not at the country that I want to play for does it still make me an import

    •  Před 2 lety +1

      Where is your passport from?
In general, you are only counted as a national in the country in which you have a passport. For instance, with a Canadian passport I count as a national playing in Canada. Everywhere else I am considered an import.
There are some exceptions to this such as the Bosman A (European Union passport) and Cotonou (African, Caribbean passports).
Then there are grey areas when you get to Asia with the 'Asian import' rule.
      Hope that helps.

That will depend a lot on the country/region you’re in.

I actually did a video on this recently:
      czcams.com/video/T53KW0DV5ds/video.html
In short, go get game film; semi-pro specifically.
Get another passport if you are eligible for it.
You can also find ways to get overseas to get right in front of clubs - getting a job there, vacationing and messaging teams, staying with relatives.
You are always at a huge advantage when you are literally in front of their eyes.

      @ohgeezreact5209 Před 2 lety +2

@ hey thanks for replying I appreciate that, I will look at the video and maybe you touch on this topic but how do I even get a shot for a “semi pro” team, just approach or contact them and say hey I’m a good basketball player give me a chance lol, or like shooting/ workout footage. It may seem jokish but I am serious about this I just really don’t know. I am Canadian also so maybe you have some insight for me in that regard.

    •  Před 2 lety

@@ohgeezreact5209 many semi pro teams are disorganized or have low numbers and are looking for players. That means there’s lots of opportunities to be had and a low entry of barrier but with a potential good return.
Find contact info of teams and coaches online. Message them and go tryout.
      It’s very accessible.

    •  Před 2 lety +1

@@ohgeezreact5209 Canada also has one semi-pro team at the moment ( I believe) in Vancouver.
You could also travel stateside and play on one.
I’ve seen many people do that for film and experience.

    •  Před rokem

Hi Lawrence. I'm not sure entirely what question you're asking - what do you mean by "how would that work?"
What is "that" in this scenario?
Generally speaking, Europeans will have the most success and advantage in Europe - especially considering the Bosman A/B passports that give players great mobility.

    •  Před 7 měsíci +1

Extremely unlikely especially if there isn't even the high school level because that tells me that even the most basic concepts are missing.
It will really depend on how much you'd be willing to sacrifice to chase your dream.
In extreme cases, such as yours, you would basically have to up and leave to another country and try to make a low-level league and build your experience from there.

    •  Před 3 lety +1

      Definitely.
That's why in my books they are the last option. You have to be specific and selective with what combine you are going to attend. And you have to know what you are trying to achieve and where your advantage is (passport, location, season schedule, potential connections etc.).
Don't just start going to everything under the sun.
