I AM 76 NOW AND WAS ALL MY LIFE REACHING OUT FOR WHAT JUST REFUSED TO BE THERE, A MOM, A DAD. ONE EVENTUALLY LEARNS TO LET IT GO FOR ONE'S OWN SELF WORTH. HOW MANY TIMES HAS IT BEEN RECOGNIZED THAT PHYSICAL APPEARANCE IS SO OFTEN SHALLOW IN COMPARISON TO A PERSONS SOUL/HEART QUALITIES. AT FIRST GLANCE PHYSICAL IMPERFECTIONS CAN STAND OUT BUT IN JUST A FEW MOMENTS TALKING WITH THAT PERSON THE IMPERFECTIONS LIKE VANISH I. LIGHT OF THEIR WONDERFUL AND GENUINE CHARA TER AND SOUL, DEPTH ... IT IS AS THOUGH ONE NO LONGER SEES ANY PHYSICAL IMPERFECTION. I KNOW BECAUSE I WAS A PARALEGAL AND O CE WORKED FOR A VERY INTELLIGENT PATENT ATTORNEY IN THE USA. THE MOMENT I MET HIM TO HAND HIM MY RESUME, HE LOOKED UP AT ME HAVING SEVERE SCARS ALL OVER HIS FACE. I DID WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM. BUT AFTER A SHORT CONVERSATION I WAS MET WITH SUCH AN AMAZING KINDNESS, GRACE, AND EVERY ASSORTMENT AND IMAGINABLE HIGH QUALITY OF CHARACTER THAT TO THIS DAY IT IS STILL ENDLESS TO RELATE !!! HE WAS EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT HAVING 2 SEPARATE ENGINEERING DEGREES, HE WAS A GREAT ARTIST, WAS A LINGUIST (7 - 8 LANGUAGES), A LAW DEGREE PLUS IN AMERICA ONE HAS TO PASS THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND TRADEMARK EXAM TO PRACTICE PATENT LAW IN THAT COURT. THE MAN WAS JUST THE MOST PLEASANT HUMAN I BELIEVE I HAVE EVER KNOWN. HE MARRIED HIS PREVIOUS PARALEGAL AND HAD 3 BEAUTIFUL CHILDRE. AND WAS A WONDERFUL HUSBAND AND FATHER. HE TOO WAS INSPIRING.

When I was five years old my mother accidentally ran me over with a riding mower (allegedly). All of the damage was received by my left leg my heel was amputated and severe damage to lower left leg. The doctor's advice was below the knee amputation. As you could imagine my parents did not want this for their child and opted for reconstructive surgery in an attempt to preserve as much of their child as possible. Now no longer having a heel presented a bit of an issue so the solution was to remove what muscles were left on my leg and diy it into makeshift heel bone and skin graft it into place. So after recovering from the hospital I was enrolled into the public education machine and thrown into the wolves of kindergarten. My left leg was a few inches shorter than the right and to counter this situation they would manufacturer a platform onto my left shoe. You could imagine it kinda like the platform disco shoes that were once po topular only I was wearing only one. You may be surprised to find out that my classmates noticed. So the first question I would get was "what happened" so I would have tell this story over and over every time I met a student from school and their was a lot of them adding another straw on my self-esteem camel's back. You also may be surprised that my fellow students wasn't very sensitive when it came to this. I'm sure you're surprised about this behavior from children attending public school. This one incident I will never forget as it's been burned permanently into my memory. We were at lunch and the cafeteria was completely full of students and as I was walking to find a table with my lunch tray one of the kids said "limp, limp, limp" and soon the entire cafeteria was chanting "limp, limp, limp" despite my one sweet disco shoe kids didn't seem to want to be my friend so I had no destination I basically was just looking for an open seat next to someone less likely to pick on me. These encounters have such an impact on who you are and how you're developed and causes such irreparable damage and can lead one vulnerable to many unhealthy behavior's in order to cope. So these have life long affects. What's kind of ironic is that when your heel is made out of your calve muscles it leads to complications and as they became more serious when I turned 18 I elected to have my leg amputated below the knee. This decision improved my life so much both physically and mentally. In fact most people don't even realize that I have a prosthetic until I tell them. Had my parents agreed with the doctor's recommendation I may have been spared a lot of pain. Now I'm 40 and happily married with two children. Unfortunately I'm currently unemployed I developed substance abuse and I'm focusing on recovery for my family. As hard as it's been I'm feeling optimistic and soon will be back on my feet, well foot.

Dad refused to wear his shoe because he felt like Frankenstein wearing them. One leg was 6 inches shorter .as a child I overheard him talking about it.
His childhood was mostly in a hospital having surgeries. I heard it was TB of the bone, I also heard he turned over while riding a tricycle and a stick stuck in his leg which set up infection. So I am not sure of the facts of his childhood trauma. But he worked and was raising 5 kids when at age 36 he was murdered.
I look forward to seeing him in the resurrection.

Yet, despite, or because, of both the abuse (including sexually, by our biological dad, a fact which mum tried to cover up right up past the point he pled guilty, and was sentenced to prison for nine years ...), I have an absolute, borderline ferocious, instinct of protecting my sister, part because of what I saw, part because of the guilt that that 14-21 year old me bares for not doing enough for her, and part because I don't ever want history to repeat itself ...
Currently I am not in a good place mentally, but that pales in comparison to what I see as the injustices in my mum's will towards my sister. Sadly, I am not an Executor, but I will go to court, if necessary, to ensure my sister's rights are protected, by me ...
Hence, even though she is my sister, there is far more of a paternal instinct I have, and always will, for reasons I can't explain, as I don't know ... but I know is there, and what makes me utterly believe you, in your words ...

I cannot express how grateful I am to have randomly stumbled across this video- I lost my right eye due to severe mental health issues around 5 years ago … at the time it happened, I didn’t care less as I was so unwell I didn’t even really acknowledge what had happened, but once I started working on myself and my issues and became aware of what happened fully, it then severely impacted my life and my confidence and I wear sunglasses even when just sat talking to my family (who have NEVER judged me for what happened and compliment my appearance every time I get very self conscious!- I’m so heartbroken his parents couldn’t accept him but also overjoyed his adoptive mum gave him all the love and support he deserves 💚)
When he said about pulling his eyes up in the mirror, I became OBSESSED with doing this as I felt my eye ‘drooped’ (even though after consulting the surgeon who did the initial amputation and him measuring it and saying it’s pretty much still symmetrical and I do NOT need surgery!) I still could NOT accept the way I look now over a minor flaw- this video has really put things in to perspective for me and I think Jono is GENUINELY attractive inside and out! It’s so reassuring to know he is in a stage of life now where he is comfortable and loves his appearance, which is all I’ve ever wanted to feel since my incident and from today onwards I’m going to ditch the sunglasses and embrace my uniqueness with my false eye! 💚💚

She was removed from her parents because of neglect. She had been fed only applesauce (bad for her development). She never went to school or left the house. Now she was in school and although badly delayed from the neglect and lousy nutrition, her teacher thought that she would catch up eventually. She got a hearing aide and began to learn sign language Her nutrition was addressed. She was trached and a long term plan formulated for facial reconstruction. After having all those years to reflect on what they did when Jono Lancaster was born, it's excruciating that they're STILL denying him the love he deserves to have had from his bio parents. I'm sure he's thankful to the moon for all his adoptive parents have done for him - and those two certainly deserve to have been graced by the magically beautiful Jono for his entire life - but it goes without saying that he was unnecessarily forced to endure the bio-parent's fear and dysfunction. So much fear and dysfunction that they couldn't see how much improved their own lives could have been with him in it. But I don't suspect they'll ever come around if they haven't already. Pity.
But my guess is that even Jono has compassion for the pain that *must* exist in the bio-parent's lives. They couldn't POSSIBLY have lived happy, fulfilled lives full of love. That - in itself - is tragic. At least Jono has the joy and drive within himself (much to the credit of his adoptive parents) to learn how to navigate this weird and challenging planet and be a fantastic human being, full of love, bravery, curiosity, humility, intellect, self-confidence, understanding, courage, compassion... all things those original two people have -sadly- probably never known.
Like you, Mark, I hope that someday he will indeed be able to meet any bio-relatives, and that they're far more like Jono than Jono's parents.

Goes to show how when we take the time to get to know the person, rather than just look at the exterior, how much it can change our perspective for the better.
Just one conversation, just listening for 12 minutes, can make all the difference.

That his parents left him is actually a good thing, this way he could be found by the woman that raised him to be this absolute legend. The fact that he came to terms with it in this way and still wishes them happiness and good health says alot about this man.

I think that they made the right choice to give him up as a baby, but that's only because I think they're shitty people and wouldn't want ANYONE to grow up with them. Like they wouldn't even face him when he was a full grown adult. That's heartless and cowardly to the core.
