I have a Landscaping co. in Texas. I use beneficial Nematodes. The microscopic round round worms eat the grub larva. They work great, are cheap, and are safe to use. We dont use any chems here because the soils so poor.

Great info. How do I know if my lawn is to far gone? It's more dead and yellow than anything. I treated with milky spore today

I don't believe Milky spore works...they say it take "a few years" to work but the research in turf shows it does nothing or actually made infestations worse.

    great info Stan as always
i think people should apply grub control every year even if they dont have grubs as a precaution also it is a good idea to put the grub control wend putting new sod down because sometimes sod has the grub in the sod from the farm and that is have you get the cross contamination to your soil.

Everything I've learned about grub worms I've never heard it this way to look for the new tiny baby larvae.
I use preventative that I put in the soil before they are there in the late spring and it kills the baby larvae much easier....but I never thought or heard to look for the baby larvae alive in active infestations. They baby grubs do surface to die pretty often with the preventative I use, ive only seen dead baby white grubs.
This is unique content, thank you.

A basic mixture of one tablespoon liquid dish soap and one quart of water is an excellent homemade grub worm killer and will keep grubs from making their way through your lawn. The soap in the mix will effectively smother the larvae, killing them before they can make a buffet of your yard.

Also, Japanese beetles move from the turf as adults and can defoliate trees, shrubs, flowers etc. If they get to that point you can do a foliar application of merritt, or there are several other products that work well too.

    • @Dirtmonkey

john houston That isn't effective.. unless you want clean beetles haha. The dish soap thing works to break the surface tension of the water in a jar or dish-then the beetles drop instantly to the bottom and drown. Just pouring it on them is like giving them a bath. :)
