Eli Wu's Impulse (A Custom AEG Smart Blaster)

  • While down in San Diego a few weekends ago, I met up with my buddy Eli Wu to play at some SDNC games, and to take a look at his latest builds. Enter Impulse: Eli's own Automatic Electronic Blaster (AEG/AEB). This beast is custom-built from the ground up, with CNC'd aluminum and 3D-printed parts.
The nerf hobby hasn't had very many AEGs, with the Stampede and the SwarmFire being the only times the mothership tried out the concept. However, with the QWK Challenger Mk3 and the Colonel Wasp 76 coming from overseas, and Impulse in Eli's loadout, this category is seeing somewhat of a resurgence. I'm really excited for the future, and I can't wait to see what comes out next.
As stated in the video. The amount of time, effort, and money involved for Eli to make this blaster means that Impulse isn't for sale, nor is it ever likely to be.
Check out Eli's CZcams for more updates on his projects:

I can't wait to see more AEGs. The stampede is my favorite blaster, but the biggest gripe is the performance cap. There's only so much you can squeeze out of that shell. Mortality did an amazing job with his designs and mods to the stampede, if you were curious how far you could take one.

Truly fantastic job on engineering this '1-of' blaster.
I would expect that when airsoft manufacturers ever do get around adapting an air soft chassis for firing a half dart, they're going to be in the $650.00 and above range. However, I think the main hold up is that being on receiving end of a dart within 30' traveling at 300fps is indistinguishable from a paintball, and for me personally is more target practice or maybe 'zip-code-tag.'
I've got a couple blasters that hit above 275fps and they're like target practice/home-defense. 😎🤠😇🤓
I would to see AEG/AEB blaster make their presence known.

Fun fact: There is dead space between the chamber and the rifling of real steel weapons for the same reason as the BCAR in the Impulse. That is, if the bullet contacts the rifling too soon the friction of the case will cause it to jam. It's the reason you can fire a .223 rem bullet out of a 5.56 NATO barrel but can't do it the other way around.
Only in the case of real steel, the pressure build up will destroy your rifle and possibly cause grave injury.

Few ideas that came to mind in order to make a more precise roller-powered electric blaster (I am an elite fan):
    1) use four rollers instead of two in a cross-shape configuration, you would be able to drive the dart straight without the need for a barrel, which wastes some of the dart's speed to straighten the trajectory.
    2) Use gears on the rollers to ensure synchronization of the rollers, that would help to drive the dart straight (two motors aren't perfectly identical, they will have differences in inertia, weight distribution, friction on the axle, ,... resulting in not exactly the same speed in the two rollers)
    3) use helix grooves on rollers to induce spin on the dart by pushing it with an angle instead of straightly with the usual roller
I hope that will inspire some people.
    Thanks for the video
