Why China Thinks Its J-20 is Better than the F-35 or F-22

  • It’s not surprising that China claims that its J-20 stealth fighter is superior to the U.S. F-22 and F-35.
All nations like to claim their weapons are better than those of their adversaries (and if they don’t, it’s because they want more money for the defense budget).
But a Chinese defense magazine has gone a step further by describing how Chinese experts view the J-20 as superior to American jets in many - but not all - categories.

Since its title is in Japanese, I consider it a Japanese magazine with Chinese and English versions. On the other hand, if a magazine is published in Chinese with a Chinese title, I consider it a Chinese magazine, no matter where it is registered. Tibet has been a part of China in a very particular way for at least a few hundred years, even though it enjoyed a very short period of independence in the early 1900s. I know you're gonna start the argument that the CCP never owned it....Yeah...brainless westerners. There were countless regime changes throughout Chinese history, but regardless of the regime, this land is still called China. And Indian lands? I thought they were taken by barbarian Brits back then. There were no clear borders between China and India. The UK drew a stupid line and created all the problems. To sum up, your western ancestors or masters, whatever the case may be, created all these problems and now stand at a moral high ground and pretend to be the nice ones who care about human rights. The f35 was kept small to keep the radar targeting down. Even if the plane is stealth does it’s size make it easier to radar lock? I also remember the reason why the f35 used single engine and slower speeds was to keep the heat signature down for missile lock and stealth. I’m assuming these planes aren’t as stealthy as they could be if equipped with a better engine, which is why they went ahead and made it a bit larger for multi role capability.

In regards to fighter jets there’s gotta be a sweet spot in reference to size. For a bigger aircraft it’s true they hold more fuel.. but the added weight also burns more fuel. Is the trade off worth it considering u can always refuel in flight. Also the Raptor being smaller is way faster any more maneuverable. We admit even after 20 years since F-22 was ever made, it's still the best 5th gen fighter in the world. No fighter else can compete F-22 in whichever quality and quantity.

The truth is the J-20 atleast in my opinion cant have possibly been built to match the F-35 or F-22 however its a reliable indigenous aircraft one that was sorely needed if they want their navy to have ample support from the mainland. In short the J-20 is merely a step in the right direction. My prediction is the newest models will be more compact as to be more viable in naval combat and transportation.

It would be amazing to just have an exhibition between these planes. No missiles and no gun ammo. Whoever can get a lock on the other once the battle starts would be the winner. Then we can for sure know without having to speculate. I know these planes are made to take out targets from long distance so dogfighting is not a likely scenario but it would still be fun to see them perform against each other and really put that tech to the test.

J20 with its long range strike ability is meant to use in conjunction with DF17 to create an area access denying capability.
It works like this: to reach target, F35C would need air refuels. J20 will strike the air tanker. Without using air tankers, F35 would need the aircraft carriers to move closer to shore to reach target. Then comes in the DF17/DF26 ballistic anti-ship missiles to deny access to large carrier ships. Hence denying area access to US strike groups.

@@robhaywood6783 F22 cannot take off from an carrier, and it only has ~700km combat range. That means if an F22 where to target J20, it would have to be operating from a near-China airport where the airport itself would be within China’s DF missile strike range.
This is why I tend to see F22 in the pacific as a defensive rather than offensive weapon. It’s the carrier based F35s that are really the offensive weapons.

J-20 is not designed to attack F-22 or F-35. They are going after the aerial tankers required by those and other planes in the US inventory. It should be VERY effective at killing those required support aircraft. Swarms of other very good fighters would deal with the American Stealth fighters. Pray such a battle never happens. China and USA need one another. War would be a huge tragedy.

Both j-20, f-22 and f-35a need to rely on a complete combat system, such as the information system formed by early warning aircraft and radar. All the tests in this paper are only paper data verification and cannot reflect the real battlefield situation. Only when it is combined with the system can it give full play to its own advantages and effectively reduce the war losses. Limited by the space, this did not discuss the engagement in the complex electromagnetic environment, nor did it discuss the support role of the air defense system, but it is believed that these will effectively improve the operational effectiveness of both tree boys
