Demo of Martin DX1 RAE acoustic guitar. Recorded with Audio-Technica AT2020 condenser microphone. Distance around 30 cm, at the level of 12th fret.
No post eq or reverb. Only post processing is volume "drawing" to get reasonably equal volume of soft parts and heavy strumming, and to avoid intense use of compression, for most natural tone. Very gentle limiting on master bus to cut some peaks "just in case".
    3 parts
    - recorded using 0.73 nylon pick
    - recorded using finger picking
    - recorded with 0.73 nylon pick, through guitar pickup (Fishman)
In the third part You can notice me adjusting tone knob of fishman preamp.
Martin DX1 RAE is an affordable (considering Martin's price range) electro-acoustic guitar. Seriously worth considering if You are planning to spend a money amount around it's price. It was my personall choice. Lucky and satisfied user for a few years now.

I own this guitar and I can't say enough great things about it. The fact that it is an Acoustic/Electric makes it even better (I've hooked it up to my BOSS Diablo II and a series of pedals as well - it totally kicks tail on any other guitar that may be many times its price point). I love my Martin DX1RAE. If you can find one out there, buy it - you won't be sorry.

I've played the 1968 Martin D35 owned by the banjo player in our bluegrass group. It spoiled me on owning anything but a Martin
dreadnaught. I was 82 y o yesterday and have owned many guitars for the 70 years + I've been playing. The DX1 has the punch.
and the stage presence I like. No more trash talking DX1's.

Do you find them hard (or harder) to play than others? I've tried these in the stores and found them very hard to play, especially w/ barred chords. Now none of the ones I have played have been setup at all. But I feel like even w/ a setup it might be harder. I will more than likely get one (x series), set it up and give it a go.

Ronnie Williams I find it very easy to play compared to my Taylor 214e and other brands like Yamaha and guild that's I've owned in the past. Depends on the what typed of radius you are comfy with. People who can play Taylor's find it hard to play martins and it's the other way round

    • @limpethead

@@RRW276 some advice. Change the strings. Get Newtone Low tension strings. You will be amazed the difference they make. They take all the pressure away, you will find barring a breeze. They will go out of tune alot for a few month's, just keep on tuning till they settle in. Then they will be fine. They are so good that they take the effort of pressing away, and you will find you improve in other areas as its one less thing to bother about. I don't sell them or anything. But they are a game total game changer, hand made and only £10 a set, sound amazing too. Had my set on 7 years.

Nice playing. Man that guitar still has that Martin sound. I hate to say it but Martin just knows how to do it right. I don't call this an entry level guitar. Some do. But that shouldn't be said just because a guitar is affordable. I just bought 2 of these. USA made black label and I bought a Mexican made black label. Both solid top spruce. Apparently there are some that are all laminate or they are listed wrong on some sites. I'm a little confused about that. Could be the black labels are solid top and the tan are not, not sure. I'm not saying these are the best on the planet. They are NOT HD-28 quality of sound. But I've played for a living my whole life and can tell you as a gig guitar you would NOT be at any disadvantage using one of these and they sound really good. Mine were the non pre versions, I added a K & K mini' pickup ran to a Presonus channel strip with the upgraded tube where I can compress, EQ and shape the sound going out as to not be totally at the mercy of a sound guy LOL., using a volume pedal on the floor, and have been gigging with it. The Tayor I'd been using I paid $2500 for and its an amazing guitar. Switching to the Martin I fair easily as well. It's a wonderful instrument.

Hope you got one. I've put Newtone low tension strings on mine. They go out of tune alot because they stretch. But after a while, they settle down. They take all the effort out of pressing down hard, so much easier on the hands. Make all the difference, and allows you to concentrate on other things. Plus they sound amazing. They really make playing a pleasure. The difference is amazing. Just keep tuning till they settle, might take a few months . Hand made and about £10. Same as any good quality set. I've also had my Martin set up by a Luthier for £30. You don't have to, but it will lower the action, making it even easier. Hope you got one. I love mine and cherish it. Play it every day. You will thank me.

I gotta be the dumbest picker on this planet. I had the clone of this guitar. Like a true dumass I used it to trade up to another Martin. A Road Series DRS1
I traded the DX1 and a Taylor 110 in on the DRS1. Returned to Guitar Center to buy both the DX1 and the Taylor back. GC had doubled the price I paid for
both!! And the DX1 had a buyer who was returning to pick up the DX1. GC has a policy of not selling used guitars for 14 days. The buyer had placed a deposit.

@@stranac1978 Yes, there is an audiable difference. for me phosphor bronze and bronze(you probably meant). For me Bronze does not pull as much "wooden" sound of the guitar as the phosphoer bronze does. More like electric guitar strings on the acoustic guitar (or something between electric and phosphor bronze), Hard to describe with words.

Whats better sounding: DX1KAE, DX1RAE or DX1 AE? Which wood is the best on this guitar?

    • @andrewholland21
      @andrewholland21 Před 5 lety +1

Midaw all depends on what you’re looking for in your guitar. More bass and overtones = dxrae. More midrange and more dry sound = dx1ae. Look up the difference between the tone woods and make a decision based on that.

They are all the same, the only difference is the decoration of the first layer of your HPL back and sides. Absolutely no difference soundwise.
