    A fantastic venue, Todd. Can't wait for more Gridserve infrastructure to spring up. This is the way to do this. Can I just make one small observation [it's not a criticism]? 30 vehicles? To me it seems a little small for an airport local charging forecourt. Then again, I haven't crunched any numbers on future usage, it's just a gut feeling. Nevertheless, fantastic. More power to you.

    Best of luck with your venture - I stopped by and charged on my way back from Eastbourne prior to the main opening date (thanks Derek for showing me around). Any plans to open anything on the M4?

    You should put one of these at all the “London” airports

    The airport itself might reach net zero by 2030, but what about the vast emissions from all the flights it facilitates?! 🧐

    The airport is the last place you need quick charging. Best option there is to leave your car plugged in to "slow" AC charging, as you most likely will be gone for more than a day. Oslo airport in Norway have 727 (yes, seven hundred and twenty seven) 22kW AC charging points for about a decade now. So when you come back from your plane ride, you are met with a fully charged car and can be on your way. No need to plan for charging your car before you park, since quick charging must be done with a warm battery to be effective and quick.

      Exactly what I've said in comments here too. For the same money this could have been 1000 car park chargers or a combination of.

      I don't think its aimed at air travellers, its on the M23 motorway so will be mainly used by people not using the airport or for people picking up/dropping off passengers

      @@rtfazeberdee3519 What i've said a little earlier, far more useful for drivers using the airport would have been 1000 slow chargers than less than 2 dozen rapid chargers. 12 rapids and 500 slow...whatever combination but a handful of rapids near an airport isn't what serves best.

    Yes, lovely, I have paid a visit myself: now offer a reasonable price please. I get that fast charging costs more than slow charging and home charging is cheapest, but 79p/kWh is extortionate.

      @djtaylorutube Před 7 měsíci +2

      @@WindyJAMiller Yep, comedy price eh? I don't know how they can offer this price when Tesla is half that. It's a bit of a pisstake.
      More useful would have been a few hundred 7kW or even 3kW outlets in the airport car parks. Simple sums, if each of the 22 chargers on that forecourt cost £50k then that's over £1 million. Same money at retail price would have bought 1000 7kW chargers in the airport car park.
      Or a combination of both.

    • @WindyJAMiller
      @WindyJAMiller Před 7 měsíci +4

      @@djtaylorutube yeah I see what you're saying. 79p/kWh at 300 watt hours a mile is 30p/mile for fuel. That's the same as 25mpg with petrol at £1.40 a liter or there abouts I think.

    • @djtaylorutube
      @djtaylorutube Před 7 měsíci

      @@WindyJAMiller Yes I don't get too fussed about that for a couple of reasons. First, I stick with the Supercharger network at half that price so they're not exactly enticing me! Second, the prices are the rare prices when away from home so factored all in, it's like eating at a restaurant every now and again vs cooking at home.
      Last time I used a supercharger was December 26th, next time I'll use one is May 3rd.
      Obviously for someone who relies on these and doesn't charge at home, an EV is probably not the right choice, certainly not at these chargers anyway.

  • @paulcope9819
    @paulcope9819 Před 5 měsíci

    Public transport to Gatwick is not sustainable. The Reading to Gatwick train is by stinky diesel locomotive. It's much greener and cheaper to drive there in your electric car, providing that you don't use public charging while at the airport, as it currently costs a fortune to charge your car there. If you really do need to use public charging, then use the Tesla supercharger close by at Dorking, which is 48p/KWh and open to all EV's.
