I was born and raised in one country "from the other block", but I consider myself lucky that my grandpa bought LP in Italy and I've been priviledged to listen this performance by London festival orchestra which I find the best one from numerous that can be found on YT. Bravo with standing ovations. Thnx to uploader for taking me back in time in 1980's
By far, the best recording I've heard. It emphasizes the important clarinet parts in the piece and the piano is very powerful. Thank you for posting this video and brightening my day!
Best song ever written. It's no wonder Gershwin received a 5 min. standing ovation, following the song's debut. Mixing Jazz with Classical, what a beautiful marraige.
Beautiful! and for those of you who have watched "Cosmos" by Neil DeGrasse Tyson, this is the mysterious sound that he was hearing during the 3rd episode....those haunting first few notes.....a brilliant symbiosis of light and sound!
Far and away my most favourite version of this. I always find others tend to rush some of the sections, and it's far nicer to have a mix of the slow and quick. Brilliant. Genius work of art, magically played.
Now THAT is a slow, dirty Clarinet glissando there at the start, THAT is how slow it SHOULD go. Breaks my heart when I see the live performances where the gliss is over in a second. Been working on it for a long time, I can get that bend going for almost 10 seconds now from G to C.
I've listened to a few versions of this and definitely agree.. You've shared the best! What orchestra, conductor, time, place, etc? You should update the description.
Theres another version ...very similar to this , but more powerful...Ive had it ones, but I cant find it now...if somebody will find, please send me a link !!!
I trawled youtube for my defining version of this and if it didn't have that dirty clarinet glissando then the rest of the orchestra wasted their efforts
dirtiest glissando I ever heard, went by the name of George,7ft tall he was, best ever glissando on youtube they say, other glissandos want to be him, all clarinets want to be glissed by him, long and slow

Close your eyes and just listen. Absolutely the best recording of Rhapsody In Blue.
Thank you Bernieb84
A simply beautiful version, tremendous clarinet and what to say about the piano, a masterpiece this version, thanks for posting.

I love the opening clarinet...
At United, we're connecting people, uniting the world and doing it safely. From all of us, thank you and enjoy your flight!
if you read the opening credits the tell you it is the royal festival orchestra with stanley black at the piano bernie :-)

Far superior to the Paul Whiteman arrangement. Gerswhin at his best.
