I've been making videos with the gopro hero 7 black for few years now and I was wondering ever since why was that jitter and ghosting was happening, didn't even know what to call it. I was shooting with 60fps and 1/120 shutter speed, mostly with an ND8 filter. I started filming with these settings from the beginning so I didn't have any comparison actually, I just thought this is how it films... Thank you for your informative video!! Now I gotta figure out how to get the best image for motovlogging...
Very informative! Thinking of getting this filter set.
Thank you! It’s been a great filter set and I like how it allows me to get even more creative footage with the Ace Pro.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. 😊
Thanks!
Hi. just to ask, better use NDPL or CPL? Thanks
Thanks!
Thank you! I really appreciate your support! It helps a lot.
Will these filters help when your camera is shooting through a windshield and I am getting glare? Had camera set to 4k 30.
Which ND Filter do you recommend if I’m just vlogging ? I have the pack of 4
Love it! What would be a good setting for Timelapse at night in a city setting? Specifically, I want to capture light streaks of passing vehicles. And would you still recommend ND in that shooting environment? Love your videos on the Ace Pro! Enjoying this camera a lot!
A static ISO of about 400 and a shutter speed of about 2 seconds should be what you’d want to aim for with vehicle light streaks. I’d recommend keying in the ISO of 400 and shutter speed of 2S first and then do a quick test to see if the exposure is right. If it is overexposed using an ND filter will enable you to get to that 2S with proper exposure. Whether or not you’ll need it will largely depend on how dark it is outside of the vehicle lights in the rest of your scene. Have fun!
@@GreatDayForAHike brother thank you so much! Thank you for your quick response and your awesome advice! I love your channel. You’re my go-to when it comes to tutorials!
Thank you, I appreciate your support!
What do you recommend for ace pro , motorcycle settings using nd8 and camera mounted on helmet ? , without jitter or ghosting clean footage
I recommend making sure your shutter speed is not any slower than 1/240. If the shutter speed is faster than 1/240 you shouldn’t have any jitter or ghosting.
@@GreatDayForAHike well do,Thank you for replying
How long do you film the star trails for please. ? Overnight? Thank you
Yes, I like to do all night star trails and night lapses. About 8-12 hours total depending upon time of year. I use a power bank to my power my camera all night.
Hi, instead of using a gimbal what about adding motion blur to the video in the app?
Yes, one could film with a shutter speed of 1/240 or higher, keep stabilization on, and then add motion blur using the Insta360 app afterwards.
Excellent - purchasing the Insta360 today for a trip next week. One question on the filter pack - can I rotate the CPL even through it's square - if no, then is it any good? Thanks.
Great question. It doesn’t technically rotate in the sense of turning a dial but the filter can be popped off and replaced at any of the four 90 degree angles over the lens cover.
As far as I can tell the CPL effect is the same regardless of how I place the CPL filter.
@@GreatDayForAHike Hmm. That would make it the first CPL I’d used that didn’t make any difference when rotating. Thanks.
@@GreatDayForAHike Great suggestion thanks.
@MartinHarvey Yes, with most CPL filters there is typically a difference in placement but this one looks the same no matter how I place it and I don’t see any specific instructions that say it must be placed a certain way for the CPL effect.
Has anyone stacked an ND wth the PL?
Unfortunately, the design of these filters will not allow for this as they are not magnetic.
i´ve got a question: Rollercoasters often have lights below the trains and can therefore create cool trials when you take pictures of them in the night with a low shutter speed. However the surrounding makes it hard to take pictures with a low shutterspeed because these get way too bright if exposed too long. Would these filters help creating such pictures?
Great question. Yes, these would assist with that because they will limit the light hitting the sensor and allow for a slower shutter speed.
@@GreatDayForAHike okay, thank you
is the nd filter on the gopro just as good as on the ace pro?
Yes, I like the ND filters that Freewell makes for GoPros as well. I use these often on my GoPro cameras.
❤❤❤❤
Thanks
I have a quick question for you
I have a gopro and i shoot most of my video in 4k or 5k but when i transfer my footage from gopro to my computer how to i convert the video from hevc to mp4 or h264 so i ca edit it any guide?
Great question. So, as long as you have the HEVC codec installed on your computer (if you’re using Windows), you don’t have to convert the footage first in order to edit it. The HEVC codec is a 99 cent one-time cost from the Windows store.
If you do still want to convert it and don’t want to edit the clips as they are you could use a free software title such as Handbrake. However, one of the issues with converting is there can be some quality loss or compression before you get to edit the native clip and this can further reduce the quality of your finished product. So I recommend keeping that in mind.
My ND filters are keep falling off I dont know why
You likely need to confirm they are firmly in place on all four sides.
@@GreatDayForAHike HI, it is only fit one side of my Acepro there are spaces between the camera lens and the ND filter. I don't know how it fit like it does in yours video. Thank you
As a videographer I really appreciate this review! by far the most informative. May I ask? If I want to motovlog whilst riding on a superbike, what are the best FPS/Sutter speed settings to get smooth stabilised footage? I want that cinematic motion blur. But how can I get this with the shutter speed so high in order to get the stabliser :(? Can the go pro 12 do 24 FPS with 50 Shutter? and good stabilised footage?
Thanks!
You’re welcome!
