We don't know if Rob Cantor made this character solely for this song or if Flouglemire is someone else's creation, but we know Cantor has worked with Disney in the past, so perhaps he is a scrapped Disney villain?
It'd be interesting to see an animated film with an antagonist such as Flouglemire. Perhaps a bit dark, yes, but I'd watch it!

I can't be the only one who noticed that this is literally just Für Elise with the chords divided up into 4/8 time, right? The verses use the same chords as the first part of the main melody, and chorus is when the chords change to major breifly.

I really like this but I don't think it's from the asteroid musical as some people think. No "Fluglemeyer" or "Cuckoo clock" was ever mentioned in the plot.

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd probably try to animate something to go with it... I've been thinking about it at least... I can't actually animate, but I sure as hell can draw, so maybe if I learn to actually make animations someday I'll make something...
What I've been thinking about was a villain song type of thing, starting off with Mr. Flügelmeier (the guy singing) sitting on an armchair as his lackeys come into the room and he starts explaining his plan, trying to entice them into serving him by making it seem as if they would also get a cut of the earnings, all the while they draw the short stick all throughout the song (like Mr. Flügelmeier handing one of them a clock before it blows up in his lackeys face during the "if you stand too close you'll die" part). During the part with Für Elise, I'd put a short scene of them actually getting richer and richer, before it cuts back to them in the same room, but now with a lot more decoration... and then he yells them to get the orphans back to work.
Man... I have so many ideas for the individual parts... I genuinely just don't have the skill or equipment to actually make this... It's driving me crazy!
Like, during the "Can I take your coat? You may." part, I'd have Flügelmeier, move from one side of the screen to the other, as if he was playing that scene out with himself and just... I think I'd make him move very... wavy..? If that makes sense...
I wanted to write that down here so maybe someday I'll stumble across it again and make it, or someone else will find it and make something idk...

Probably somewhat based on England during the industrial era, but if you want to talk about child labor, capitalist countries these days don't tend to have problems with it. The country best known for child labor in modern times is China, which although definitely not full on communist anymore, still has many socialist and authoritarian elements.

This may have been my friends introduction to rob cantor
this makes me want to write a musical about a clock company that uses child labor and an orphan working there finds out that one of the clocks can manipulate time and uses it to take down the company
OR, same concept but the clocks are secretly alive and are eating some of the children, but one faulty clock teams up with the kids
The last line sounds like it was shouted by Benedict Cumberbatch and now I wanna see a movie based on this song where Benedict play the antagonist, Mr. Flugelmeyer.
Maybe, it'd be about a kid or two who had escaped Flugelmeyer's workshop and go on an adventure to defeat/expose Flugelmeyer and free the other kids.
Edit: Actually, to add on, I feel like this would be animated and this song would be one of the first songs in the movie as an introduction for the conflict and antagonist. It could also be a way to get a peek at the protagonists. I've been having so many ideas about this song and I really wanna make an animatic haha

Just clarify what CC B said, it was written to be an Amazon Direct original, but was never picked up. Only the first act has demos recorded, along with a script. Sadly, the rest aren't, but there is a plot summary somewhere that explains how the show would've gone.
