We need to distribute the negative through on the second part. It was -(1 - 5i), we could think of it as -1(1 - 5i), That becomes -1 + 5i when we multiply each term by -1 I hope that helps! :-)
This guy is a genius that said square rut instead of root so that people would comment about it and his video would get more attention from the algorithm
Thank you. I hope you know that even eight years later, your video is being used to help students understand Algebra II. Good wishes during this pandemic and everything else from Virginia!
For anyone who is confused the negative I comes about when you multiply 1 I term with another. There's 2 is. So therefore it becomes i squared instead of just a single 1i
hopefully you can get back to me before monday, but the way my teacher taught me is you would use distributive property and i did the first problem the way he taught us and got something different so idk who’s right...
@@josueargueta3601 Correct, each is a little different due to the different operations. The first is just adding, so we can just combine like terms, ignoring the parentheses because they don't serve any purpose other than organization. The distribution I believe you are referring to in a situation like this (a + bi)(a + bi) is often referred to as FOIL, but is basically just making sure to multiply each term in the first parentheses by each term in the second. 👍 I hope that's helpful!? Please let me know of further questions and I'll do my best to explain. You've got this! 🙂
I got an add about me not understanding math and searching the web for math vids from 2006 💀💀💀 Edit:I will still use old vids these websites are just a scam
Im gonna hopefully be a man i want in years more children well come here and watch this I don’t know but if I succeed im gonna show this comment in my biggest day probably
My man still liking comments. Thanks. Seems easier now.
This helped a lot. I was getting so frustrated because I could not understand the subject, but you really cleared it up for me. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much, missed a my algebra period and was so lost. But you really cleared things up, thanks!
THANK YOU MAN YOU ARE A LIFESAVER!!! MY TEST IS TOMORROW AND I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THIS NOW
Square rut. anyways good job on the video 🖒

Hahahaha! Something like that! 😂
Thank you so much man my math professor couldn't teach this simple thing in hour but you did
Thank you for showing all the steps as you did!!
THis helped me so much! I understand this now. Feel kinda dim, thinking back to how hard this was for me until now.
Thank you. I hope you know that even eight years later, your video is being used to help students understand Algebra II. Good wishes during this pandemic and everything else from Virginia!
Awesome teacher! I loved the motivation at the end!!!!!
Thanks so much, this was extremely helpful with my SAT prep
This was very helpful! Thank you!!
- an Algebra II student
Who would have thought that this video would help me after 8 years
Very very helpful !!! The i seemed very scary when I first saw it on the psat. Thank you
Thanks, very clear and helpful.
An amazing explanation beyond and above
thank you very much you are great !!

Ain’t now way bro hearting comments a whole ass decade later 💀
You are the best
Thank you ❤😊😊
thank you its very helpfull
Thank you
Well done
THANKS
thanks a lot
Thanks man this was very helpful keep it up!
how did you get the 15i squared on the second problem
When we distribute the 5i, we have 5i(3i) which would be 15i^2.
I hope that helps! 👍
Thanks bro
thnx a lot..
Thanks
nice thanks
Very helpful
Thank uuuuu!!!!!!!
thanks my g
nice one
Now I can do it!
2:15 how did it become + 5i instead of minus 5i?
-1 times -5i is +5i
negative times a negative is positive
@@MartyBrandl Realized that right after posting that comment 😅. Thanks for your help 🙏
Thabks
that's the easiest lesson I studied in my entire life
Nice
thanks i really learned a lot
For 4:58 why can’t we just add 6 + 8i together first?
They aren't like terms so we can't add them.
wow
Better than newton 👍😂
bro my math teacher made us watch this
Also watch complex numbers made simple

are u Canadian
Close! I'm from Minnesota, USA! :-)
+Marty Brandl your root and about sounds rwally wierd
hopefully you can get back to me before monday, but the way my teacher taught me is you would use distributive property and i did the first problem the way he taught us and got something different so idk who’s right...
Hmm...walk me through what you did and we can see if we can figure it out?
Marty Brandl since there are addition, subtraction, and multiplication, one one is solved differently correct?
so for multiplication we would distribute the first number in the parentheses and then the second number ?
@@josueargueta3601 Correct, each is a little different due to the different operations.

Ooo...I don't like that ad. I assure you the math in this video is still perfectly good in 2021 and beyond. 😉

i have a crush on u
You do realize this video is from 11 years ago so he aged a lot
Im gonna hopefully be a man i want in years more children well come here and watch this I don’t know but if I succeed im gonna show this comment in my biggest day probably
You WILL succeed! There might be bumps along the way, but keep going! You can do it!! 👍
thanks this helps a lot and also STILL HEARTING COMMENTS 10 YEARS LATER?!!
He sure is 😐
Thank you!
